i still have to disagree the physics here arent as present or realistic you web sling WAAAYY too fast. it looks good though. and for its time it was AMAZING. but the web slinging physics arent as good.

Having the Danny Elfman score from the Sam Raimi films definitely makes this feel extra cool.
You can abuse the ragdoll physics in this game to do an infinite aerial combo on an npc corpse and gain like 5x the height of the Empire State Building. What a game.
I don't really like how fast the web-swinging goes but what I love about the web-swinging here aside from the physics is that the buildings feels very tall and Spidey looks so small and I can really feel the height when free-falling. I don't know why I can't feel the height in Insomniac's game plus the buildings are so congested.

Wish people stop comparing Insomniac's one cause they clearly didn't aim to bring the same idea of this one. Insomniac idea is primarly to have fun while looking cool swinging and flying through the city. While in 2004 is more to travel around the fastest you could get while holding your momentum.
swinging in this game was a skill, It felt amazing to master. The new spiderman feels like everything is automatic.

After finally trying spiderman remastered's webslinging on pc, i immediately thought of this game. I prefer this games left trigger to gain speed and momentum, and the way you 'collide' with buildings. Idk not trying to shit on the new game but to me this old game just feels a little more fluid and has more 'freedom' with the controls

Spider-Man 2 for the ps5 got EXTREMELY close into beating this game when it introduced 0% Swing-Assist. The only problem it still has is that aggravating system that keeps cutting the players off from their web whenever they reach their highest arc. Hope that's taken care of in Spider-Man 3 becuase that's just annoying. But overall... 0% Swing Assist in Spider-Man 2 has almost the same physics as the original Spider-Man 2 for the ps2. Insomniac are listening.

It's so annoying and cringe when they add the movie soundtrack in the background. Just let us enjoy the sounds of the game instead
This game had better swinging physics. The web had to hit a building. Ps5 plays fast and loose as what you can swing from. Hell, at times, it's almost like auto swinging. Too easy. This swinging is better. Doesn't look as as flashy, but its way more rewarding.
They tried to fix that in spiderman 2 by adding swing assist options; you can make the swinging less hand-holdy and it increases the skill ceiling. It's far from perfect but it's a step in the right direction and they listened to the fans. Hopefully, in the next game they really let loose with the swinging mechanics
Have you tried 0% Swing-Assist? It's bassically the same... physics wise, but not as harsh. The only problem it has is that annoying system that keeps cutting players off from their web.

And the Web-Lines dont bend. Overall? The physics are like the original Spider-Man 2 at 0%. - We are pulled towards the direction that our webs are connected to. - Our Web-Line are un-consistant, so we're gonna bump against obstacles or slam right down into the ground. - Speed and Momentum are well with the physics. How is this not the original Spider-Man 2? Physics wise. Sure, they have different mechanics that handle Web Swinging, but the ohysics are there.
@youngspecial64 I do agree that the original game had much worse physics. It came out 20 years ago on inferior hardware. Exellent deduction Holmes. Great work. The thing is, the limitations imposed on you made it so you had to plan ahead a bit and pay more attention to where you were going. The game didn't just allow the player to hold in a trigger and just go. You had to build up the speed. It wasn't perfect, it wasn't flashy, but it was rewarding. You had to learn it. You had to work at it. You had to master the learning curve. When you were moving super fast through the city you built up that speed. You didn't screw up and hit something. That, for me, is way more rewarding. The Playstation version is massively simpler. They want anybody to pick up the controller and do it. That's fine. Even with swing assist at zero it is not the same.

I’ve maintained for 20 fucking years that this is in my top 5 game of all time. I was an Xbox guy when ps4 spiderman came out a few years ago and I bought PS4 Pro just for that game. I loved it. New Spiderman is great. But the magic of PS2 Spiderman 2 is unmatched. The swinging is just so fluid and intuitive. It never felt like the computer was course correcting my fuck ups like the new games.

They really captured what it really felt like to be Spiderman in these older games compared to any of the new shit they've done. This game still looks absolutely amazing!
Looks about the same as Web of Shadows. Besides not weblines getting attached to clouds and a charged jump instead of a double jump, what makes this better than Web of Shadows and Ultimate Spider-Man (2005)? Good gameplay by the way, reminds me of the swinging in the films.
The camera effects zooming in and out enhances the web swinging, plus the ragdoll movements of Spider-Man make it fluid and not repetitive

How do you get the 16:9 ratio right? I press the option on the Dolphin emulator, and in some games, it looks good. However, for some reason, in this game, the resolution seems a bit stretched. It's not too much, but it's still a bit annoying compared to how it looks in your case; it looks amazing.

Man, you just took me back to my childhood/teenage years! This game was THE Spider-Man game back in the day. You know you could use the sprint and charge jump while you swung? We need this game remastered on the PS5 with 60FPS, 4K, and adaptive triggers for the swinging. Can you just IMAGINE how the graphics would look like?

Yes, Insomniac’s game has the flashier animations & graphics, but what Spider Man 2 ‘04 is the better web swinging FOUNDATION to build upon for more interesting gameplay.
The god of our childhoods! This was the very first Spider-Man Game I've played when I was young and it was an absolute blast! Then when I saw a Spider-Man 3 on DVD it changed my life forever and that's how I got into Spider-Man for Life

can someone explain to me the difference between the web swinging in this and the swinging in 3? people keep saying its different but as far as i can tell you just speed up quicker in 3 and have some more visual effects while moving
