    Does PlayOnLinux available for Fedora as .rpm package? And can I run "HP Smart" windows app on it? Basically, HP Smart app is a Printer and Scanner app in Windows & Mobile devices but its not available for Linux users. I really like this original app because of its functionality for scanning the documents. Also this app isn't available in .exe format and only available as .msi format.

    • @TechMimic
      @TechMimic День тому

      Not as an official .RPM package from Fedora, but try this: packages.fedoraproject.org/pkgs/playonlinux/playonlinux/ It's actively updated. PlayOnLinux should be able to handle the .msi installer. But most likely additional configuration will be needed because of the interaction with locally connected (or via Wi-Fi) physical devices. In short, I think this will be challenging at least. HP Smart will rely heavily on Windows components that are just not there in Linux. I know you already know this, and you like HP Smart, but pretty much every Linux distro comes with printing and scanning functionality that should work well too. I personally switched to Linux scanning because of how easy it was to feed a scan of multiple pages years ago. Again, not helpful if you want to retain HP Smart, I know. Thanks for watching and I hope you'll find the video useful for other types of Windows applications.

      Thank you for the compliment! If you don't specify the username and password in the RTSP URL in VLC (if you can't or don't want to), you are indeed prompted to type them every time. Maybe you could try this. In VLC (I am describing this for a Windows version of VLC, adjust accordingly) go to Tools - Preferences - Select the Input/Codecs tab - at the bottom select All and search for RTSP in the search box at the top. Now under Demuxers - RTP/RTSP and Sout Stream - RTP there are Username and Password fields that you could try to populate. Let me know if that works please, I've never tested it before. Alternatively once you are connected to a RTSP stream you can try Media - Save Playlist to File. You should be able to access this playlist from within VLC (like a favourite if you will) without getting prompted for a password. Hope it helps!

    great video. thanks. but i think there's something missing after you talked about and entered polkit-1/rules.d - i see you entering other things on screen - but you are not saying what you've entered on screen, nor is it visible in CC or in onscreen text. Specifically, there are 2 commands that are missing - which are barely visible on screen since the text is super small. I dont see the command to be entered for the 99rules file. I dont see that command in the video description. secondly, i see an error message in terminal - bash: cd: /sf/share/polkit-1/rules.d: No such file or directory - Pls Help!!!

    • @TechMimic
      @TechMimic 5 днів тому

      Hi, and thanks for watching. It's not actually a command that you're missing, allow me to explain. I mention in the video that "you can use your favourite editor" and then I personally use vi (coming from an AIX background). But I'm wrongly assuming that people would use their own favourite editor or indeed know how to exit vi, completely my mistake resulting in this confusion. If you don't like vi, on Linux Mint you can try nano. It has easier controls. Also pico can be used but it will just revert back to nano on Linux Mint. How to exit vi is actually displayed at the bottom of the screen (too small) although not highlighted indeed in this particular video, and that must be the "command" you are missing. Once you're done with editing in vi, exit the Insert mode with ESC and then type :wq to save the changes and exit the file. In other videos I have shown it, this one I thought maybe I can do without but clearly not :-). Maybe you find it even more comfortable to type in the terminal: xed 99-nopasswd.rules - this will open the graphical text editor. Thank you for this sort of comment, it will only help to make this a better channel for all and for that reason alone I truly appreciate it that you took the time to let me know. Hope all is clear now!

    Good tutorial. It's worked so far but I've reached the libs section and within the /opt/resolve/libs directory I don't have the files that you moved to oldlibs (e.g. libglib, libgio, etc.). Also it seems like all the files that have a G after lib, also have ST, so they look like "libgst(whatever comes after)". Even accounting for that I can't find any that look like the ones in the video. I'm not sure why or how to fix it, and when I tired to skip that step and run DaVinci Resolve anyway it wont work, so I think I have to do that first. I would appreciate the help because I've been trying to get DaVinci Resolve installed for several days, primarily using distrobox, and have had no success.

    • @TechMimic
      @TechMimic 7 днів тому

      Thank you. In case when you start DR and nothing appears to happen, what is reported when you simply run /opt/resolve/bin/resolve from the terminal? And what is your exact version of DR and Linux Mint please? I'd be curious to know if the libs have changed between versions. Please also read the comments, there are others with similar issues that we were able to fix. The commands are a catch-all, so not all files will always be there I can imagine.

If you don't like vi/pico/nano, maybe you find it even more comfortable to type in the Terminal: xed and then the name of the file. This will open the graphical text editor in Linux Mint. Hi and thanks for watching. So you mean that you got it fixed for sudo from the terminal, but not when running things in the GUI/menu that require authentication? Meaning the "sudo visudo" part is configured correctly. By the sound of it, it is going wrong for you where the "sudo -s" part starts, at around 01:40 in the video. Can you paste your custom .rules file here so we can review it together? Also you can get this file from TECHMIMIC's GitHub if that's easier for you (link in the description). But to answer your question - yes, you'll need to restart the polkit daemon (or the machine), you can also have a look at the output of "sudo systemctl status polkit". Both are shown in the video as well.

Also compare the plugin versions that are listed in the "Search plugins" dialog. I've just compared the old and new video and there are newer versions. @TechMimic 18 днів тому

      @Gabriel50797 Sorry I was only thinking about Powerline-go. For Gogh, I think the trick is to make sure you have a default profile (or a profile with the name "Default"). Some distros don't have a default terminal profile out of the box, but I think Debian is well behaved and it does work there. Just checked it for you on Pop!_OS and indeed, you run into an error. Go into the terminal preferences and clone the existing profile (named Pop) to another one and name that "Default". And apply as Default. Then run the Gogh script again and it works. That is what the error message (not a valid identifier) is trying to tell you. Hope it helps!

      It appears to be a common problem with DR on Linux that it doesn't minimise or maximise properly (the top bar is missing). Just search for it and you will quickly find some workarounds in the Blackmagic forum, so I think it doesn't make sense if I repeat that here. Also, unrelated but a tip that might come in handy, if you have a high resolution screen, on Linux DR doesn't scale as nicely as it does on Windows or macOS. Play around with the Preferences - User - UI Settings - UI Display scale until it is to your liking.

      Hi, I think it is easiest if I repeat an earlier comment, slightly adjusted. This video is (besides the installation of DR19 on Linux Mint 22, that will be the same) for NVIDIA, as I'm sure you will have noticed - hence your question. For AMD you can try this one: How to install DAVINCI RESOLVE on FEDORA 40 with AMD Radeon GPU ua-cam.com/video/tWIX0ibcEwk/v-deo.html I know, this is for Fedora, but just ignore that part. Various users in the comments (I would kindly suggest to have a look there) were able to get ROCm to work, you'd have to add the ROCm repo and take it from there on Linux Mint. I am yet to produce a video for DR on Linux Mint with AMD so I can't tell you what works and what doesn't at this point in time. Keep in mind that even after all this work, if you're the free version of DR and not studio you'll still be missing codecs compared to NVIDIA users and will have to live with a "convert-things-through-ffmpeg" life. In general NVIDIA appears to play nicer with Linux and various codecs and hardware-based acceleration. If there is enough interest I can create a specific video for Linux Mint 22 + DR19 + AMD. Thanks for watching!

      You're very welcome, and thank you for your kind comment. Hello and thanks for watching. If gpart reports it's busy that is normally because there is still a partition or there is something mounted. Unfortunately you don't provide any further context or the step in the process to go on, so there is little I can do. If you can paste the output of your terminal here we can certainly try to troubleshoot it together. Just a few thoughts, maybe you're missing the -F flag in the gpart destroy command? Are you sure that there is currently no partition mounted (sometimes that happens automatically). Use the mount, df, ls-l /dev/da0* and umount command to check it and unmount when needed. Maybe try umount /mnt if there are no other devices to interfere.
