Week 22 - The Rings of Power - Episode 6 - Udun - Review
The offspring was definitely a step in the right direction , the entire film should've focused on more original concepts like that.. The Ledward 's unique infection via living spores through the ear canal and the birthing of the neomorph back burster scene set the bar pretty high in Alien Covenant.. So I was expecting Fede to really go nuts with his creativity, creating original and interesting concepts.. But he chose to give us a mid tier chest burster scene instead..
We weren't too happy with the offspring side of things, too freaky and moving it to the lore of Prometheus and Covenant. Thanks for the comments
What bothers me with the idea of the cocoon during the growth of the chestbuster is that we have never seen one in the other films, although logically, we should have... In Alien 3, you can see the xeno growing during the scene of the guy being cut up by a big fan, but it's quick and dark. The alien is covered in secretion, the walls around him too and he seems to be writhing in pain. Then he spits acid in the face of the approaching man. I prefer the symbolism of the hole with the secretion than simply a vagina stuck to the wall...^^ And I much, much, much prefer the death with the fan than the absolutely ridiculous death of Bjorn.
Yeah I wasn't too sure about the cocoon thing - I thought they grew and shed their skins a bit like a snake.
9:00 I would have put an elderly character too, in the role of the pilot. Like "don't worry, everything is fine, I'll take care of everything" and I would have made him die first, that way the young people find themselves "abandoned".
Agreed - think that would have been a good way to raise the panic.
24:00 This idea reminds me of Alien Covenant, when Daniels crushes an alien with a giant claw.
Yeah, slightly - we were thinking some other way than just ejecting it out of a spaceship and trying to draw on her experience.
I think it would have made more sense if the alien's cocoon had crashed on the planet. More coherent than finding it in space... So, the young people could have taken advantage of the panic to leave and collect refrigerant gas on their planet. There is no refrigerant gas on their planet? Weird.
Good point about the refrigerant gas - perhaps that was too well guarded and they wanted to try their luck on an abandoned space station. Thanks for all the comments
The first step to fixing it is for the writers to actually watch the first 2 movies. Not just clips of "the cool parts" on UA-cam. Also, if they can reverse engineer an alien into black goo, how come they aren't just fusing humans with androids to make them better? Their tech and science is apparently God tier.
Good points, and interesting idea about fusing humans and androids - thanks for the comments
Someone 'locked away' on the space station would be a little bit too 'Newt' for me. I didn't have any issues with the overall premise, though. It was just the execution that was slightly off. Like, they could have spent an hour on world building and setting up the encounters with the aliens. That would have been fine, and put it closer to the original (two) movies. This movie was a bit too formulaic. It was very similar to Resurrection in overall plot structure in my view.
The plot especially reminds me of the end of Alien 1. When Ripley, Parker and Lambert want to escape the Nostromo aboard the Narcissus, they must first stock up on refrigerant gas.
Hadn't really thought about the Newt connection but can see what you mean. We thought it would be good to have a surprise alien bursting without knowing it.
I would love to collaborate with you guys and share some ideas one day.
Cheers man - will have to have look at your channel - thanks for watching
The coloney is in the middle of nowhere so even with a distress signal they would be waiting months, there is a line in the movie which covers this. However other scavangers from the planet would have been nice.I do wish all the callbacks where removed and no mention of crappy black goo. Raine should have died at the end and Andy slowly drifts towards the new planet where he wont be accepted.
Interesting. But Andy is programmed to take care of Raine, so if she dies... I guess he would just "turn off".
Yes you have a point about the time it takes to get anywhere in space, which unfortunately is often forgotten to help move the story along. Agree with the call backs though, they needed to drop a lot of those.
Aliens growing out of thin air was a problem in every movie so far. But yes, it was very visible here but also in Prometheus and Covenant.. The creatures just grow from nothing which always takes me out of it. It just can't work this way. Every organism needs to get its mass from somewhere.
Totally agree - this was especially problematic with the last section of this film - one second it was a baby and two minutes later it was 8 foot tall!
I didn't think the bird in a cage scene was supposed to be metaphorical. I thought it was just a canary that miners use to check if it's safe to go down or not - signifying how dangerous that job is. Especially considering her parents died that way. IMO it perfectly matched her dilemma - take the risk and join the heist crew - or stay and possibly eventually die in a dangerous mine in indentured servitude.
I agree whole heartedly!!
What about Lexx?
There’s probably so many that could be on this list. Thanks for the comment
Its a Hard Match between "Covenant " and "Romulus" for the worst Shitpile of Movie ever...
Call from alien 4 was very human like android. movie also was very women's lib like movie. The statement of "run" was sort of a quote from professor Allen Grant in Jurassic 3.
Failed like how? Most people love it. It's got super high views. Best looking show ever made. Number 1 show on amazon right now and probably will be for the next month or so... Weak video guy.
WHY ARE THERE BLACK AND ASIAN ELVES!!!!!
Why are racists like yourself, so bad at hiding how racist you are?
I agree with your assessment . Its as though the writers had to hit every button in the elevator of a skyscraper so they went nowhere.
Yeah that is exactly what it is like! Thanks for your comments and watching.
Americans cant handle adaptations, even though peter jackson does it all the time. He changed the lines and give them to other characters.
Yes you're right, being a Brit that didn't bother us with the Peter Jackson films - I mean he left out Tom Bombadil for example. A lot of our issues with this is the poor plots, bad acting etc - we were more hopeful after the first episode but when Sauron said the line Lord of the Rings! Thanks for the comments and watching.
@@geekrant5329 Weak crit bro. By that logic, game of thrones season one is full of bad acting because "when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die". You heard it here first everyone. Geekrant nobody over here says that Sean Bean is a bad actor lolololol. One of the goats of our time is a bad actor according to this cuckadoodldoo lololol. Also you just look silly. Tolkien literally wrote that line. When Anatar reveals himself to the smith, he says this exact line since obviously he's posing as a so called lord of gifts when he's actually trying to become the name of the franchise lol come on guy this isn't rocket science!....... The show is just honoring the mans own words... Sounds to me like you're not even a REAL fan considering your just said Tolkien can't write lulz. But sure lol. Tolkien can't write. And Sean Bean can't act lol. Way to go dood. Most L take I've heard all day and reps just told me that immigrants are eating all of our pets lol ooookay.
@@geekrant5329 I've heard some ridicoulous things about this show though, its really not as bad as its made out to be. i even heard a dude claim that Harfoots are fake hobbits, someone didn't read the prolouge of LOTR , thre are like 3 races of hobbits.
I'm absolutely loving it and happy people are providing me with more lotr experiences to watch without it costing me loads of money.
Me too dude, screw the haters. They are miserable and probably havent even read the books.
That's a good point, we were more hopeful after the first episode (see previous review) but there are some core issues we just weren't happy with and the acting has not been great.
Jesus, get a life. Your 89 (!) subscribers deserve better. See, not even the yawnsome clickbait is attracting anybody to this tedious trash.
You're so angry over this corporate slop lol
Ryan Reynolds pitched 20 different ideas and Kevin Feige rejected all of them. They didn’t pull enough punches to marvel and Disney. The jokes were hit and miss. The action scenes were cgi mush. I like the first two. There’s a difference between self awareness and mockery. Deadpool just mocks. He’s one note as is Ryan Reynolds. They make fun of the mcguffin and the multiverse and they do it anyway. Either commit to the bit or don’t make fun of it at all. The cameos were pandering to the fans. The fight scene with all the Deadpool’s went on far too long. The fight between Deadpool and wolverine went on too long. Wolverine should’ve had a comedic side. There’s nothing at stake. The multiverse is a cheap plot device. Even though the movie grossed over a billion, doesn’t mean anything.
Yeah, agree with many of your points. Some of the fights went on a bit long especially when they know they can't kill each other. This felt like a big mop wiping all the bits up from previous errors and trying to find a way of acknowledge mistakes so that they can move on. Hopefully we won't have too many more multiverse movies! Thanks for your comments and watching.
Movie sucked
Its not as good as the first two, but I did laugh in a few places.
Its a mix of all 4 Alien movies rolled into one, Alverez is a crap director, his actors are always wooden, the plot makes no sense, remember berries and boom booms all over the place, He spends more time squeezing in references rather than getting a decent story, he is great for visuals though, but that's about it. And the original Alien should be no where near the Nostromo wreckage, did the 'Writers' watch the original at all. Disappointed, but I didn't hate it, its like the AVP movies, a fun silly pointless spin off.
Yes agree with many of your points - visuals were good generally but you are right too much of a mix of previous films, ideas. Also as we thought the original alien wouldn't have been just spinning around the Nostromo wreckage. Thanks for watching and the comments.
Covenant is the worse, this romulus was better but thats its place right next to it...
Yeah - probably agree with that - need to watch covenant again to firmly place it.
Maybe the greater powers did know of the aliens already and let the colony be on purpose, and sent ripley and the marines to die after their goal was set which was burk to acquire the aliens somehow...
I am not sure if they did know about the Aliens on LV426 because it is Burke who tells them to investigate the co-ordinates when Ripley had returned. She was in deep space for 60 odd years so perhaps that info was lost?
@@geekrant5329 perhaps...
Dune 2 was better than 1 but still somewhat sucked and was boring to dumb especially the villains
My verdict is still out on Dune 1 and 2 - they have some good imagery and effects, and they are a lot better than some of the stuff released in recent years.
@@geekrant5329 ok they are better in ways than the sequel star wars
Movie was well made, but kinda sucked, copied alien aliens n Resurrection. Gen y or z meets aliens 😆. And there were some dumb parts in it and the xenomorph was too easy to kill n that hybrid and CGI actor sucked...and it's like what did this have to do with Prometheus/covenant 3, Resurrection & Prometheus were still better. But this was better than covenant.
Yeah agree, obviously we were disappointed too. Thanks for the comments and watching.
It's The first Alien movie that I won't watch again.
I know what you mean, especially the end sequence. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Still since 1986 I have been waiting for a decent sequel. Nearly 40 fkn years!! We want marines, a queen, some character development, and explain what that ship was doing with all those eggs on lv426. This POS felt like a bunch of scenes ideas mashed together. Oh an for fk sake, make up your mind how long embryo ingestion takes. Oh the alien grows after 5 minutes now wtf
Couldn't agree more, especially on the gestation period - ridiculous! Unfortunately, I think they did that to make that end section work - which it didn't. Keep trying to tell myself that we have two classic films to enjoy (the third is a bit harshly judged) - is it reasonable to expect more than that?
They could do one where Weyland-Yutani has a research facility where they deliberately implant aliens into criminals with no civil rights but most of the criminals are psychopaths so that when the xenomorphs emerge they're ones that actively enjoy inflicting pain. That might be creepy.
There are definitely some cool ideas for the franchise, they did purposely impregnate a bunch of shady looking characters in resurrection. But like the idea of the aliens taking on the personality of psychopaths - although they are pretty crazy already! Thanks for comments and watching.
Decent movie! Love how they dismantle the woke garbage
Yes, the best bits were when they were taking the mick out of Fox and Disney! Thanks for watching and your comment.
The whole point of the mining part in the beginning was to show how much they were struggling and to also set up the motivation for their actions later on in the film. I felt like the throwbacks should've been kept out of the movie. The CGI on Rook didn't look good. The motivation for wanting to study the alien was apparent since the first film. Weyland-Yutani wanted to do biological research on it so that they could possibly create a super-soldier or worker, use xenomorph's as weapons etc. The rat was injured, not dead. Ridley Scott didn't really like everything about Aliens and so he might not consider it canon.
Thanks for the comments and agree with your points, too many throwbacks, poor cgi. Definitely thought the company wanted the alien for research but felt from the first four films (especially resurrection) that they wanted an alien that they could train. When Ridley Scott has got hold of it again he has changed a core principle with the creation of our race, the black goo and ultimately I don’t like how it can round to David being the creator of the xenomorph. Maybe he didn’t like the aliens film as much as we did but it stayed true to the original film in our opinion. Thanks for comments and keep watching!
it was pure shite. I kept seeing glazing reviews when it came out, I couldn't believe how different I felt coming out of the cinema. Glossy, wafer thin and painfully poor ripping off of ideas. All characters were flimsier than the end alien baby/chap's legs!
Yes the trailer made it look better than actual - Shame I thought they might pull off a decent film but too much repurposed material and characters were too thin as you say! Thanks for comments and watching
Aliens 4 reskinned with kids and a boring girl boss
Yes certainly don’t have characters anywhere near Ripley. Thanks for watching and comments
It's a bad movie. I'm done with Hollywoke
The movie was not good but that had nothing to do with "woke"
The movie was absolute dogsh*t and there wasn’t even anything woke about it
Oh i forgot “woke” to them means diversity in cast and not mostly white people…
Woke is a word that reactionaries use about anything that they disagree with. Nothing new here
@@Matowix So you want to live in the 1800's? The world is evolving
There was no need for Prometheus and Convenient. The notion that you needed a backstory to deminsh the Alien mythology seemed like the perfect setup to fail. No matter how beautiful and well shot both films are, Fox and Ridley Scott have aided the decline of the franchise and also reset the series with probably the most boring and pointless entry yet, Alien Romulus. All I wanted was closure, and Blomkamp's Alien 5 would've given the series the necessary end required, but Fox had other ideas and backing Alien vs. Predator, then backing Scott to deliver both Prometheus and Convenient, was the perfect way to protract the agonising death of the franchise. Romulus has the opening, which is so naff and completely stupid that you instantly know the rest of the film will be instantly forgettable on repeated re-watching with inconsistency being one of many elements to stain Romulus. The set design may look good, but the set design certainly doesn't save a travesty. The Alien franchise ended in 1992. As much as I detest Alien 3, I have to accept that the end story arrived and the franchise finished.
Great points! Yes, Alien 3 gave it a good conclusion to the Ripley story.
Thanks for voicing most of my disappointments with this travesty. It was an abomination. I can’t believe how many people have liked it.
Yes we were pretty disappointed with a lot of this - thanks for watching.
I saw it last night. What an absolute dogsh*t of a movie. It was so bad I seriously wanted to kill myself right there in the theatre. I’m not joking. I will never watch another Alien movie.
4th best after the original 3. Most characters were weak, but that has been the case starting with Alien R.
Think I agree with you this is probably the fourth best Alien film. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe!
Hello no, it's not better than Resurrection
Geek Rant. Where geeks rant and talk about the sticks up their asses. Have fun with that
Toby mate you're a complete DOWNER seriously buddy cheer up Romulus ain't perfect but fk sake your depressing... The world they've built in this one was more than decent the visuals in this where also very good my only gripe was the call back lines waaay too cheesy and the god damn BLACK GOO hate Ridley for insisting on it use 😮
Utter rubbish sad
Yeah we were disappointed too.
Why bring back "Big Chap" in the most unbelievable way (he was just floating about near the wreckage of the Nostromo) only then to have the Alien die off screen. The movie could have had Big Chap running amok on my the station, showing us how he caused complete chaos. The second half of the movie coild then have the space heist gone wrong plot. Fans would have got to have seen big chap on a rampage. Not sure what he would make of the "Offspring" at the end.
Totally agree - the way he was just floating around the debris of the nostromo was poor. And really disliked the whole offspring thing and how fast it grew! Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe.
Ever since the Black Goo is introduced from Prometheus and now the setting in Romulus, they are rejecting the story from Aliens (1986) and after. The xenomorph could be suvived in outer space, all the things (face huggers, black goo) could be extracted or cloned from the xenomorph, even the magical black goo compound is produced and who know how many already spread to anywhere else, no to mention the black goo from David and his experiements. All of these already destroyed many things. There are no need for the people to make it so hard to get the xenomorph like the reason in Aliens, Alien3 and Alien Recurrection, their stories will not even exist.
Agree that they should have found the xenomorph DNA in a different way. And really didn't like that the whole origin of the aliens comes from David genetically altering stuff. Thanks for watching - don't forget to subscribe.
Damn right there’s only ever gonna be 1 blade
So true - was great to see Wesley Snipe again - thanks for the support - don't forget to subscribe.
You got #1 right. Too bad Whistler wasn't in this movie.
Yeah it was great to see blades swagger!
Agreed utter garbage dumb characters and stupid story line boring the set designs are ok
Thanks for the comment and watching - more reviews to come.
Wooimgoingtomakeanameformyselfhere
That look at the camera after Blade that 😂
Exactly - That is one of the reasons this was number 1 on our list
There's so little new to see. The horror and tension Alien did better, the action and female lead Aliens did better, the hybrid (& I can't believe i'm saying this) Alien Resurrection did better, specially its death. This is like Star Wars 7.
It had jumpscares!! Cheap ones 😒
Yes too many reference back to the originals for my liking.
