Kokanee Dink Zone!

J&K Tackle takes a much-needed break and heads down to Anderson Ranch for a little half day Kokanee fishing trip. We usually hit Anderson in early August for the big mature Kokanee that the lake is known for. We gathered some information from Paula at Kokanee Tackle Boise while restocking inventory. She was planning on a trip to Payette Lake in McCall on the same day we were planning on going t...

Kamikaze Chub dodger was shown in one of our more popular Kokanee fishing videos and quickly became the fishing dodger of the day! Jake hand bent, tapped and prepared two variations of the Kamikaze Chub for this video. Watch as he paints an eye-catching, Kokanee slaying, masterpiece on stainless steel sourced from Utah! Big thanks to Scott from Colorado for requesting this J&K dodger! Check us ...

Jake and Kevin find a STICK-jam on Arrowrock! Everyone on the lake was struggling to catch anything due to the cruddy water, so we decided to go with our heavy glow gear! Then Jake decides to go solo up at Anderson for a quick look see. We also get a little carried away with the video editing! Enjoy!! After scouting Arrow Rock Idaho this winter, testing some new tapes and colors, we knew exactly what we needed and where to go! Jake started things off with a Fire Bread Chub paired with a Tangerine Squid. Kevin was left contemplating if and when he'd actually catch a fish this year when suddenly he became the star of the show! Kevin, armed with his Kamikaze and Orange Squid combo managed to la...

Loving the 🇺🇸 print!
Everyone loves it!!
That's what I get...drowned dinks... trolling
It was a bummer, but hey a bad day fishing beats a good day at work!
That sunset kamikaze or whatever we're calling it looks AMAZING I need some
Thanks Chris! Sold out! I’ll be busy replacing quite a lot of stock! Hopefully I’ll have some ready by July 9th.
I love the painting vids wish ther wher more people would show more painting dodgers and salmon plugs I got into painting last year painting swimbaits ect something keep the negative thoughts down when I'm down
It’s important to have emotional and positive mental health outlets. Study’s show that painting increases dopamine in the brain. There are also studies in Europe that state people who enjoy fishing are less likely to be depressed & anxious. Thank you for your comment & I wish you well on your painting journey!
On a "role."
It was a good day!
Jeez place has really cleared out since march. Lsst time i went there had to be 100 boats trolling around
There were probably 8-10 boats out when we were. We typically try to fish on the weekdays to avoid the crazy.
@@jktacklellc yeah being so busy in the early spring probably has a lot to do with Anderson not being accessible yet. It was a Tuesday in March I was describing. At least 15 trailers parked right there at first dirt launch then only God knows how many along the road at the main ramp.
I would have just turned around! 😂
The weight of that dodger keeping the fish down from jumping… you might be onto something! Can’t weight to test them out! 🤣
No pun intended! Ha! I really think kokanee are hard wired to respond to something flashing in their face. The second our dodger turns into a top water “surfboard” they chill out and just go with the flow. It’s been fairly consistent too!
@@jktacklellcthat’s amazing! Kind of like turning a shark over perhaps! I noticed it cared nothing about the boat… just tantalized by the dodger still dancing maybe!?
Here is my overthought hypothesis. When the dodger is on top it becomes very stable and there is little to no action. There’s no hydraulic turbulence being created between the wings so there’s no lift and stall being produced. The Kokanee’s natural aggressive response is neutralized and they just go with the flow.
@@jktacklellc love that thought process and can’t argue with that! Ive never seen them go into cruise mode right up to the boat like that. You’re definitely onto something! I assume you don’t see them jump like all the lighter dodgers once they hit the surface? They usually go NUTS!
The kokanee on a top line catch generally do their acrobatics at first and we keep the drag loose to avoid too much tension (like most everyone does). Once they bring that J&K dodger to the surface it’s about an 80% chance the dodger plains out and they suddenly relax. If they are caught deep on the down rigger the chances of this happening drop a bit. It really depends on the fish, but heck we’ll take every advantage we can get, right! 😊
Great
Appreciate the comment! Thanks for watching!
Awesome video... GREAT now I need MORE TACKLE! Love how those dodgers roll and don't seem to cause a lot of drag. I'm willing to bet the resident Coho here in the puget sound would smash all this stuff as well!
Thanks man! The dodgers are marine grade stainless steel and should be durable in salt water. I’d rinse them afterwords. Now, I bet the Squids would work very well too! We did design the dodgers to troll @ slower speeds. 1-1.5mph. I’m still fine tuning the Tornado, it should do well at 2.0+ mph. Check us out at jktackle.com and thanks for responding to our video!! J&K
Jake 😆 lower your drag and increase pressure on the tip of the rod, let the rod do the work and the drag is the safety. Lose less fish 😎 and Kevin there is a clicker on the Abu Garcia it's a pain in the ass switch on the bottom opposite of the crank handle towards the front of the reel
Story of my life! I lost one on the double because I didn’t set my drag! You’ve seen too much! K: will get out the microscope 🔬 🤣
@@jktacklellc I see a lot 🙈 but I did not see Jake put fish in the box lol. Totally teasing, happens to the best of us! We're going to have to start calling Kevin Tony Montana though the way he's on those kokes 🧐
Blue krypto with orange flake!!!
The Kryptos are amazing! K: did a really nice job pairing colors. We need to make a Bronco Krypto!
I'm going to come out one day and we'll go fishing 😎 depending which boat I bring well take separate boats or y'all can hang out in the Lund and watch me catch some limits lol
😂 we will definitely point you in the right direction and give you a real big dodger and squid selection to choose from! Hopefully we will have a bigger boat by then. The dingy is kinda wearing us out a bit.
@@jktacklellc I'll be selling my starcraft later this year. Would be a massive improvement over the dinghy you guys got lol. 2 electric and 2 manual downriggers, 90hp main and 7.5 HP kicker 16 foot and has a UV charging station built in on a switch. Will have new transom and deck by then. If you guys haven't upgraded. I just home the big Lund is done by then so I can sell the starcraft to someone very lucky
Maybe? We will have to see how things go!
Bubbles could also mean you bent your needle.
Luckily the bubbling stopped after I started putting some more paint through. I always try real hard to avoid bending needles. I appreciate your input! Thank you.
@@jktacklellc excellent! It bothers me when I bump a needle without knowing it. Then I have an expensive paint mixer in my hand.
I’ve bent a few and yes… it feels like pouring gold down the tube!
@jktacklellc I'm using mostly the Iwata Custom Micron. I was doing fine detail work with the .18 which will show defect if you just tap it with the cap. Drives me batty. Which turns out to be a shorter "drive" than I originally thought. Oh well. Lure making is my next adventure. Fingers crossed
Most of my lure work is .5 & I use a Patriot. Makes life a little easier when using that gauge.
These are so cool
We think so too! Thanks!
Those are so awesome. Good job 👍
Thanks for watching & for the compliment!!
What is moon jelly?
Moon Jelly is a chromed laminate tape that reflects light similar to a mirror. Only difference being that when it reflects as a laminate you tend to get a spectrum of colors along with the reflection. This particular laminate also glows in the dark… I’m excited about this aspect especially!
What do u use for clear coat ?
I tested out a few options. I really like UV resin because it’s practically odorless and the catalyst is UV light. There’s no mixing, special timing, excessive mess or dangerous aerosols involved. It’s really clear when set and so far proven to be very durable.
I didn’t realize how many steps were required for that level of detail.
There’s a lot that has to happen to get them just right! Thanks for watching!!
