    Very useful video. I only have one comment. I'm sure the adhesives you used, Super glue and JB Weld, worked really well, but they are both permanent. If you have to do this again, it would be next to impossible to remove the bellows. You basically "welded" it on to the camera.

    • @Media.ExpertPhoto
      @Media.ExpertPhoto Місяць тому

      Good point, but in my tests I was able to pull the JB weld apart. I could get the super glue off as well if I needed to :)

    This is a super video. I found it helpful beyond measure. I went through all the steps as followed. I obtained the bellows as suggested. I really did what was needed. And I am most grateful for the detail attended to this project. My efforts ended up being far more challenging than depicted. But the video kept me on the tasks at hand. It was a great productive project. My Toyo field camera is a happy camera today because of the work I did. Thank you. thank you, thank you. I remain deeply pleased. My only suggestion to anyone going down this road alone? Go slow. Give yourself time to stumble, time to get all the parts necessary to do the job. You will prevail. It took me about a month to get this done. From ordering all the necessary parts, discovering that I hadn't ordered all of them, to plotting out the necessary time, once I had everything ready, I succeeded. And it was worth it.

    I wonder how many photographers in UA-cam meter light with the digital cameras but they pretending to do it with the spot meter…do you think you can get same results on digital on film?

    • @Media.ExpertPhoto
      @Media.ExpertPhoto 2 місяці тому

      Yes, light is light. EV values don't change between digital and film. Film just tends to look different because the colors and the fact that film holds the highlights better. I have used a mirrorless camera to meter a film scene before. It works fine. For longer exposure and pinpoint metering I prefer a light meter. Especially for the scene in this video.

    Thanks so much for sharing this! I’ve got a digital medium format camera Fujifilm GFX50R. And I am planning to simulate some “large format” photography by taking a few shots and stitching them together. However I have in mind not to shoot from left to right (or the other way) in semicircle standing in one spot. I’ve got a video slider and I was thinking of making a certain number of shots while sliding the camera sideways. It should help with perspective distortion. And sure the software you mentioned will help to stitch it properly even better.

    Sir, I shot large format in the 80s...loved it and miss it. I'm 100% digital now. I do as you do and scout out locations and will hesitate not to drive 200 miles for one shot of a Texas building out in the middle of no where. The car that's in your shot...wow, my frustration as well. Here in Texas, vintage buildings in small towns typically will have a car or truck purposely parked in front. For years I thought it was by chance, but more and more I see it, I think it's intentional.

    There is an app called "lens tagger". Works really well and does not use command line instructions as the user interface. It has a section for film, too. I use a lot of manual lenses and it's what I use to record exif data. You can make presets that are stored within the app.

    I've added bubble levels on both front and rear standards to easily see when they are vertical (and back horizontal as well). My standards lock with a detent but have a bit of play. There bubbe levels are easy and fast way to make them spot on. They work also with extreme rise where I have to tilt camera base up due to limited rise.

    If you need a photo clear of traffic and say 4s or whatever exposure, you could probably use bulb mode and split it into say two separate parts? (assuming objects don't move, camera is stationary and there is not large time difference to change direction and intensity of sun). I've never done that but this video made me wonder if there is any problem in such a split. It could be a usefull tool in the toolbox for those nasty shots when you have gaps but not long enough gaps.

    • @Media.ExpertPhoto
      @Media.ExpertPhoto 4 місяці тому

      That is an interesting idea, maybe I will try that the next time I am in this situation. Not sure which would be better the way I did it or having an object move. In any case thank you for the good idea.

    You would really do well in such a situation to have an assistant watching, perhaps even warning, traffic. Also, doing what you do you should have a reflective vest such as worn by workers in traffic areas. Compositionally, my eye is annoyed by the roof support on the same line and obscuring the door edge. That's the sort of thing I see all the time in my own images so I know how hard it is to see everything on site. Thanks for your extra work to make a video of this. Also, I'm hoping you provide the store owner with a print.

    • @Media.ExpertPhoto
      @Media.ExpertPhoto 4 місяці тому

      I had a second shooter all through my wedding career, you are right, but not worth it here. I carry a reflective vest in my trunk, would have helped, just forgot. Agree with you on the roof support. Sometimes those things are hard to notice in the field. I normally ask if they want a print, and most of the time, they are not interested. Thanks for the input.

    First time watching your vids. I must say it's funny how a lot of photographers are shy about interacting with people and here you are film yourself in front of people, avoiding traffic, talking to the store owner, telling them to get out of the shot. :) I found that all very amusing. Just goes to show you shouldn't be afraid to get the shot. Also, I have never seen anyone convert a negative the way you just did! That was awesome to learn that.
