Our Camino hiking shoes are at the top of the list of important Camino gear. However, we recommend having a second pair of Camino shoes. We take something we can wear after we get to our lodging in the afternoon and have a shower. Our feet are happy to be out of a laced up shoe, and slip into comfy shoes that let our feet breathe.
We have been wearing croc slide sandals since 2007, and they have served us well as our after-hours Camino shoes. They are waterproof to wear into the shower, and can be dried off easily afterward. Croc slides are almost weightless, so they don't add any weight to your backpack. Carry them inside your pack or tied onto the outside. Wear them without socks if temperatures permit, or put on some socks and wear them that way in cool weather.
