Fall Back Garden Tour 2024 ~ birdhouse garden
Переглядів 2,9 тис.3 місяці тому
Hi Everyone! Summer has finally ended and Fall is such a welcome change. These last few weeks I've spent in the garden has given me so much appreciation for how much it gives back to me. After a cup of coffee, I spend several hours outside forgetting about the time. The cooler weather motivates me to do as much as I can before the sun sets. In the next few weeks, I'll be potting up winter annua...

Removing A Dying Japanese Maple Tree ~ birdhouse garden
Переглядів 8265 місяців тому
Hi Everyone! Removing this tree for some reason was difficult for me. I'm not sure why. Now that it's gone, I can see how planting a healthy tree will add so much to our garden. Starting tomorrow, Belmont Nursery in Fresno, will be having a sale. Even though we're not ready to plant, we'll be purchasing a red Japanese Maple tree since they will be on sale. I'm really excited to see a pop of red...
Plants That Are Surviving The 110° Heat and DIY Two Ingredient Mosquito Repellent ~ birdhouse garden

Hi Everyone! This summer has been extremely hot. As I'm typing this, we've had over 40 days of temperatures that are 100° and above. Many of those have been above 110°. There are a few plants in our garden that have performed better than I expected. As each summer rolls around, the bugs just seem to appear out of nowhere. A pump of your favorite lotion and 1 drop of lemongrass essential oil has...

Hi Everyone! How's your summer been? We're in for a stretch of hot temp's this next week. Although our garden is growing, I am constantly thinking about how the exterior of our house is a bit of an ugly duckling. It's been a slow process finding the right color and of course tackling the stucco. The front porch will be the first area that will look better. I'm not sure how long this will take u...

Planting Candy Corn Spirea & Blue Suede Shoes Salvia Along the Stone Pathway Flowerbed
Переглядів 2,7 тис.8 місяців тому
Hi Everyone! This area of the garden has always stumped me. While visiting a local garden nursery, I saw these Proven Winners Double Play Candy Corn Spirea. I've had experience with the salvia and variegated oregano. Those both perform well in our zone. In a few months, this area should look full. I forgot to mention that I added Espoma Bio-tone fertilizer and gypsum. Thank you so much for stop...

Planting A Creative Way To Keep Our German Shepherd Out Of The Flowerbeds ~ birdhouse garden
Переглядів 3 тис.10 місяців тому
Hi Everyone! Recently, we were shopping for plants at a local garden center where they were giving out a free planter with purchase. We brought these pieces home and thought they could help deter our German Shepherd, Chief, from running through our flowerbeds. These should bring pops of purple color in a few weeks when the impatiens begin to bloom. Thank you so much for stopping by. :)

I also have an older Dracaena plant that is way too tall. I would like to know how your pruning turned out. Is the plant looking good and any additional tips now that you have done it?
Within a few weeks, I saw new growth. It’s healthy and more full looking. I’ll be sure to show it when I film a spring backyard garden tour. Mine lives outside in indirect bright light. They don’t require a lot of water. 😊🌱
Beautiful garden! Excellent plant choice! I heard about Lemon Cypress tree that they don't do well in zone 9, Could you plz make a video of your lemon cypress how you take care of it. What is min and max temperature it can tolerate and how much direct sunlight it get in that planted spot? I just got little one from Lowe's and wondering where should I plant it. I am in zone 9b Houston, TX.
Thank you.😊 Yes, you are correct, I’ve been told that they don’t do well in our climate. I purchased that Lemon Cypress at Lowe’s during the holidays several years ago. It was about 10-12 inches tall. Our summers are very hot like yours. The tree receives a lot of morning sun and early afternoon sun. The hottest part of the day is between 4-7pm. By then it’s shaded. I will take photos during the day and share that in a video once the time change happens. We installed quarter inch drip around the entire tree. Initially, it was planted in a window box, then I had it in a pot for a year before planting it in the ground. I hope that helps. 🌱
Hi DeAnn 🌺. You arranged the amaryllis beautifully in the container and How pretty the nativity . Merry Christmas and Happy new year .I'm glad that you are safe from the fire . Have a great week .🌺🌻🌟🎄🌻🌺
Hi Lina!😊 I need to post an update photo of them.🌱Thank you so much. Happy Nee Year!🎉
Beautiful garden! And such a helpful video. Thank you!
Thank you so much. So glad you enjoyed it.😊
Are you near the fires?
We are not. Thank you for asking.
Would you say this is the fastest growing wall cover?
Yes, definitely. 👍
@ thanks for the reply! I had a miscommunication with some landscapers… I walked away for an hour just to come back and find my beautiful hedge removed and now the neighbors ugly chain link fence is fully visible 😭. I’m trying to find a solution to make myself feel better! Does this plant cover chain link? I’m also on the central coast, but pretty close to the beach and get a lot of cool, foggy weather. Do you happen to know if it does well in a coastal environment?
Thank you for sharing. Happy holidays! And enjoy we gardeners vacation for a few months.
Happy Holidays!😊
Merry Christmas!🎄🎁 Beautiful nativity, and beautiful hair!❤
Thank you!😊 Merry Christmas 🎄
I love your stable and the nativity. I too am growing three amaryllis bulbs in a pot. They have been a bit slow getting started. Happy holidays (and as usual, your hair looks fabulous!)
Thank you very much. Happy holidays.😊
What a beautiful nativity! My brother has the nativity we grew up with. It's around 70 years old or more. We no longer have our parents, but your video brought back a lot of fond memories. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Your nativity sounds so special. Memories become extraordinarily important as we lose those we love so much. Merry Christmas.🎄😊
Great projects and by the way your garden is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much.😊
Thank you so much for this video! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Smiles, Stella
Merry Christmas Stella! Thank you 😊🎄
Have a wonderful holiday season.
Thank you Tina! You, as well.🎄😊
Beautiful! I have to ask, how the heck did you get those foxtail ferns into the ground under the redwoods? The root systems of my redwoods are incredibly frustrating to try to dig even the smallest of holes.
Thank you.😊 It is difficult to find a spot under the redwoods. Their roots are all over the place. I’ve decided to no longer try and plant annuals under them. I’m trying to find plants that are low maintenance. 🤞
I would water gaura much
You have inspired me to move plants and add color. Love the plant deals you bought, wow! I wish hubs a successful surgery and quick recovery.
I’m so happy to hear this. Thank you so much.😊
Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden! Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Smiles, Stella

Thank you. We are hoping after the knee replacement, he will be out of pain. 😊
Thank you for the tour, have a wonderful holiday season, and your hubby has a successful surgery.😊
Thank you Tina.😊 Have a beautiful holiday season.
Beautiful fall colors in the trees and huechra. Looks great! Best wishes for Your husband’s surgery.
Thank you so much.😊
I enjoy making more plants and dividing them. I’ve made more plants from liriope and planted them in my trouble spots.
I’m always a bit nervous to divide plants.🥴 When they take to being transplanted, it’s so rewarding.😊
Wow , watching from South Africa 😊
Hello South Africa 👋😃
Is that creeping lantana surrounding the birdbath? It’s beautiful. Happy Autumn Lovely maple.
Yes, it’s purple trailing lantana. It’s such a great performer in the garden. Thank you and have a beautiful Autumn.🍂 😊
Thanks for the video. I've been using creeping fig for the past 25 years to cover our garage and side and rear fences. I would not wait 2-3 years to do a first trim. I have found that keeping your fig trimmed tightly against your building or fence from the time it starts growing helps it fill in faster and keeps the leaves smaller and promotes smaller vines. I absolutely love this plant. I recommend monthly trimming in the spring and summer, and 6 weeks in the fall and winter. (I live on the West coast). - Note that once you allow the vine to get thicker, it's hard to ever get them small again. without replanting. but everything you cut back a thick branch in encourages the plant to push new smaller ones. - but then you are left pulling or cutting out the thicker parts. - so my recomendation is trim early and often.
Thank you so much for watching. We recently trimmed a few weeks ago. I agree with trimming it often. 😊
DeAnn, Your garden is lovely and so are you. Thank you again for sharing.
Thank you so much 😊
It was so perfect. :(
Thank you for the end of summer tour of your lovely backyard garden. I'm glad as well that the hot weather is over ... whew! So happy you found the Japanese maples at Home Depot for 75% off! Trailing purple lantana has been a solid performer in my garden too. Smiles, Stella
Thank you Stella.😊 Lantana is such a trooper in the heat.💜
You have a beautiful garden. Where did you get the water fountain?
Thank you.😊 The fountain is from At Home. It’s affordable.
Hi Hi DeAnn🌺 . Wonderful tour at your garden it looks stunning and these japanese maples are going to be amazing in your garden . DeAnn you can add sapium sebiferum tree to your garden its color looks amazing in fall and its leaves are heart shaped and very beautiful l . Have a great day .🌺🌻🌺
Hi!😊 Thank you. A Chinese Tallow tree sounds beautiful. My mom has one 🌿
I absolutely love your river rock border! I'm new to your channel and love your yard...but where are your birdie houses? I live on Monterey Bay and it gets hot here but not nearly as warm as you. Stay cool and get more bird houses 🌿🐦
Thank you and welcome.😊 Monterey is absolutely beautiful. I don’t think we’ve ever filmed all our birdhouses. I should take a count and feature them.🐦
I just love your garden and patio. I garden in S E Florida (zone 10A) and I, too, do not tolerate the heat. Many of my plants suffered greatly this summer. Now that the temps are in the low to mid 80's, I will be getting out in the garden. The hanging pot is so pretty. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you.😊 The older I’ve grown, the heat takes a toll on me.🥴 Fall is a welcome reprieve.🍂
Your garden looks so good despite the heat of summer. What a deal on those Japanese Maples! I like the little black fences, where did you find them? I also have a dog that marks. The colors of the balloons look so pretty when the sun shines through them. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Thank you.😊 I purchased the little black fences from Lowes.
Garden looks great. Hubs did a wonderful job on the river rock. That lemon cypress adds such a pop of color, now I want to add one to my garden. Thanks for the inspiration 👏
Thank you.😊 It’s hard to believe that lemon cypress was only 10-12 inches tall when I first purchased it. 🌿
All of us in Central Ca survived that brutal summer, nice to be able to have the plants out of the patio, to enjoy. Thanks for sharing the hot air balloons it’s b en several years I’ve been 🥰
Hopefully next summer we be a bit more mild. Those hot air balloons are so fascinating to watch.😊🎈
I just planted a Lemon cypress tree in the ground from a one gallon pot. Will it survive the winter?
If you live in zone 7-10, it should survive. 😊
@@birdhousegarden Thank you, very much. We've had strong winds today, as a result it is slightly tilted to one side. Should I leave it alone to recuperate or should I intervene? TIA
I love your front yard tour and plant selection! I have very small front and can only plant handful of plants. Don’t have any shade, full Sun for 6+ hours. SE Texas heat is so bad , it’s hard for me to think what should I plant. I love everything about your garden, you have a very beautiful garden!❤
Thank you so much. The heat is challenging when it comes to gardening. It’s so nice to finally have some cooler weather. 😊🌿
I just love watching your videos.
Thank you so much. 😊
Hope your Mom continues to do well. Your garden looks beautiful 👏
Thank you.😊 She is doing well. I’m so happy that she’s been able to maintain her independence. She used to live in the San Francisco area. So glad she is near me now. 😃
That maple is beautiful and a lovely addition to your gorgeous garden! Those 70s temps are going to feel so good after this long, hot summer! Bring on fall! 🍁
Thank you.😊 Yes, bring on fall!🍂🙌
Lovely tree.
Thank you 😊
It looks stunning! Your gardens are so beautiful
Thank you 😊
Oh I really love that tree! It adds structure, but it also has a delicate wispy quality that's perfect for that location. Also your fountain is gorgeous! I never noticed it before, but it's the perfect size for that spot - what a stunning focal point!
Thank you so much. 😊 I missed having a tree on that corner.
Hi DeAnn! I think you picked the perfect tree! It is going to look really nice. Yes, the heat has been horrible. 100 for a week in October!? My garden is looking pretty rough. Irene from San Jose, zone 9.💙
Thank you Irene.😊Aren’t you so happy it’s beginning to finally feel like autumn?🍂
My one true love in my garden are my maple trees. I must have 7 total. I hope your tree thrives and gives you tons of pleasure in the years to come. Thanks for the video.
Thank you.😊 I’m with you on the maple trees, they’re so beautiful.
Hi Leann, The maple looks good, I didn't know they needed acid soil, I need to put some in my 2 maples great video 🙂🌻
I didn’t realize they needed acid either. So glad Belmont told me that they guarantee the tree if I purchased the amendment. I will be putting that around my other maples as well. 😊
Hi Leann, your red Japanese maple looks lovely planted in its new home in your garden. Thumbs up too for the plants you chose to surround it with. I appreciate the look of the river rock bordering your planting beds. Gives them a polished yet naturalistic feel. Would your husband be willing to share a few tips with us about how he does that? Best wishes, Stella
Hi Stella, thank you.😊 I will pass the question to my husband and see if he can do that. 😃
Your garden is beautiful. 😍 I love the new tree. We bought our house in 2004. We planted a weeping cherry in 2005 and now it’s absolutely gorgeous. Our weather is a little bit different though here in Indiana. 😊 Take care.
Thank you.😊 A weeping cherry?! How beautiful! I bet you’re cooling off in Indiana. Have a wonderful weekend Karen.😊
I just got a tiny one in the mail I ordered from Josh’s Frogs I do vivarium’s with moss, drift wood, stones, springtails to feed on dead plant matter, and different plants and I love to make them with creeping fig as one of my plants I love the shape of the leaves and how hardy they are. I must my Vivarium every few weeks and keep the lid on and the rest is magic.
