    Great video, thanks for that! Keep them coming! I have noticed we use about the same gear. I am a bit heavier (96kg) though, so I use 1 size bigger board 😉 I have the Tracer V3 foil set, with (Front Wing 1030, mast 85, FUSELAGES 31.5 and STABILIZER 200) And the Phazer V3 5'6"for a board. I am really happy with the whole combi, however I don't manage to follow up your advice: With my frontfoot placed in the footstrap, it is so much out of the center of the board (towards the wind-side), that I'm forced to place my backfoot over the centerline to compensate for that. The maximum I can manage is to be with the back of my heel touching the centerline. But in that stance it doesn't feel fine. It sort of "locks me up"... What am I missing here? Just thought that maybe it's because of the kind of narrow (at least for my feet) standard footstraps that force me in an awkward position? Any hints and/or tips?

    Thanks for sharing your foil drive story and experience. I think there are a lot of us on the fence with foil drive. I have been windsurfing since the early 80s switched to kiting in 2003, that increased my time on water drastically. I finally picked up wing foiling while in hood river for 3 weeks last fall, 2023, followed up with 3 weeks in the outer banks NC. Im going back to the outer banks this week for 3 weeks but i have elbow tendinitis from kiting and winging. I want to get on the water as much as possible so im considering picking up a foil drive at real in obx. But over 5K, that’s massive. Im turning 60 in a month and I dont know how many more years i will have enjoying water sports which has dominated my life for over 40 years. So will I get a foil drive to accellerate my foil progression, increase my days on water, and take it easy on my elbow, im still not sure but your video was very helpful. Thanks. Larry

    I think if you look at the alternatives of learning foiling this is a no brainer. Boat assisted lessons get expensive very quickly and you have to work around someone elses schedule. Buying a jetski is going to be expensive and you need someone else to pull you. Paddling for hundreds of hours into surf can take forever and many just quit. If you live in an area where wind is seasonal this is an incredible option to be able to get daily time on the water. thanks for putting together this review! I was just getting up and foiling on my wing and our season has now ended, so I was considering light wind wings and possibly a sup setup just for practice. I may forego all of that and just get one of these.

    Amazing work!!! In theory the big breakthrough would be when you create a board with the foildrive located in front of the mast above the front foil so it'll be 100 percent balanced around the center of lift which is the pivot point for turning and pumping. what's your take on this?

    • @ktwo-surf
      @ktwo-surf 5 днів тому

      I'd be keen to remove weight first - and advance battery tech - as I understand the cells have come a long way since the max was released. Weight - I have heard that reversing the drive makes things a lot worse, and I am of the opinion that the weight has to be even under the rider's centre of mass.. But I have not experimented so do not know. A lot of us have come to prone only with foildrive, so we have dialled in to what we have. maybe anything different will feel 'wrong' even if it is right haha

    • @MatanShapira
      @MatanShapira 5 днів тому

      @@ktwo-surf I already did this experiment with a DIY foildrive and a board, also talked to others who did similar things, there's no question that the weight should be between your feet where the front wing is, that's the turning and pumping pivot point so it improves both. The new mid length boards put the tracks quite forward for the same reason

    Great innovation, look forward to a production board 😉 Question. All your vids appear to be in pretty buttery conditions.. how does a short board to motor length handle in bumpy / choppy conditions ? I’m considering to motor up wind and then ride the bumps home. Thinking I’m going to be very “active” on the board ?

    • @ktwo-surf
      @ktwo-surf 10 днів тому

      not too bad but if you want to be smooth you have to keep your eye on your height - in rough water that means hugging the terrain, but downwind you get the gain on the way home...

  • @jamescasey7393
    @jamescasey7393 10 днів тому

    Love the innovation and explanation but why would you not use a shorter cable, say 15cm or shorter, to get even more usable mast?

    • @ktwo-surf
      @ktwo-surf 10 днів тому

      you are of course right - I wish the FD system was adjustable - heard they were coming out with an adjustable system. But - if I used the 15cm motor on the standard board it would still be where I am now - 20cm (as the pod adds 5cm). 78cm is my chosen mast length, and the shortest one they make - I don't want to ride 83, and they would need to make a 73cm to get to 78 with an inset board, which they don't make.. This winter I want to make a system of my own - some new cells on the horizon (molicell) try and get the weight down a bit and loose the pod.

    You can use a much smaller board if you put some volume on it. Like 4.0x17 flat rocker with some scoop on the nose

    • @ktwo-surf
      @ktwo-surf 12 днів тому

      disagree - too short and you have to move the drive back to avoid pearling - that limits takeoff, move it forward and the thing falls over it's nose. volume has nothing to do with it. Do kiteboarders ever talk of volume in their twin tips? It's the same set of physics - volume is not a factor in any of the characteristics needed to fulfil it's purpose. (aside paddling home or sat on it and talking to your mates without drowning) lol also - made totally flat boards and they start later than ones with rocker. no one was more surprised than I but it's a proven fact. (in my world anyway)
