Learn relaxing Yao and Kua and it can resolve knee pain issues.
The often overlooked detail of Tai Chi's "relaxing the waist and sinking the hips" (relax Yao and sink Kua) is that "relaxing" and sinking the hips can resolve knee pain issues.
"Relaxing the waist and sinking the hips" is one of the key methods in Tai Chi for learning internal energy by relaxing the outer limbs. At the same time, by relaxing the outer muscles, it alleviates knee pain.
We can explore the posture of "relaxing the waist and sinking the hips" from the perspective of knee pain. In Tai Chi, relaxing and sinking the hips happens because the upper body is loosened, along with the relaxation of the waist, hips, and thigh muscles. This allows the energy to sink down to the soles of the feet, so the body’s weight does not press on the knees. Instead, the weight is released from the knees. Because of this, the practice of "relaxing the waist and sinking the hips" in Tai Chi can effectively alleviate knee pain.
If you can make "relaxing the waist and sinking the hips" a habit, it can change the way you bend your knees, helping you easily avoid knee pain. This principle can also be applied to activities like hiking and running, preventing knee damage caused by the pressure of body weight. Furthermore, "relaxing the waist and sinking the hips" is the first step in practicing Tai Chi’s "whole-body force" . For beginners, this technique allows them to learn "whole-body force" from the very start and provides a way to correct improper movements and habits, improving from simple squatting movements to cultivating internal energy.

Even children can develop internal energy; why can't you? "Through the standing post training in internal martial arts, you learn two types of force: one, the ability to neutralize energy, and two, the ability to emit energy. The standing post practices in Xingyi Quan, Taiji Quan, and Bagua Zhang all cultivate the internal force needed for 'striking.' Once you master using internal energy, you ...

In Tai Chi, the standing posture is used to refine the path of accumulating and circulating "whole energy" (Zheng Jin). Once this is mastered, it can then be integrated into the dynamic movements of the Tai Chi form. If you have already developed a strong sense of the flow and circulation of internal energy, you may not need to specifically practice the standing posture. However, if you have not yet grasped the internal sensation of "whole energy," you should focus on refining the path of internal energy circulation through standing practice.

‘Internal power qi’ is a body ‘imaginary’: a way of envisioning the interior of the body so one has a better phenomenological mapping of the body so it can engage in kinnectic chaining. In this sense, it is very real.

"Meat" and "Bone" body separation and understanding. In Yang I practice we do both separately starting with bone or skeletal body then the bones are "dissolved" when training the "meat" body. The bone body is like yoga with open joints and stretched skeleton and the meat body is like pressure hydraulics. Both follow taiji harmonies and principles but use entirely different engines and rotation points. Later they are integrated to be part of the yang form understanding where bone is passive receiving yin and the meat is the active following the Yi balanced in harmony.
