Aaron Stubna believes that movies are meant to be seen on a big screen. That’s what movies are made for. His idea is to give movie fans the comforts of home with good food, alcohol, and add that big screen experience along with quality films that include independent work, documentaries, and foreign films that aren’t offered in our everyday multiplex. Don’s hasn’t stayed in business just because of a great location for walk-ins. They haven’t benefited from being on a busy highway or just off a well-traveled expressway. Don’s has thrived by delivering good food with friendly service. Don’s is a destination. I encourage you to put the address into your GPS system before you set out for this Pittsburgh treasure. The Rolling Stones played at Danceland and the tickets were $1.50 -- True Story.
I was dancing to bands there in the 50's. No way the Rolling Stones were the first band to play there.
I still have my membership card from the 50's No way the Rolling Stones was the first band to play there
Love this. Brew Theater. Yes!
Wasn't there a place called ''The Bavarian Room''. I remember it being so nice and cool inside. I remember my mother and aunt taking us to the Brookline picnic and later on my two uncles came from U.S Steel still dressed in their suits , they were so funny never stopped to change . That was the first time I rode the Big Dips when my uncle John took me on them. I also remember going with my grandparents to the Duquesne Light picnics when I was very young. They were wonderful days
I went there a lot I saw the Rolling Stones when they did their show and then I was there when it caught fire I was sitting near the stage and I looked up and some thing didn't look right and I told a man who was near me and he told everyone to get out of the building I will never forget get that night
I was 6 at the time and watched it burn. I lived right up the street on Waverly Ave.
And where are the ones from 00:58?
Where are the steps from 00:27?
with the view to downtown
I have the last tickets 1977. Such a fun.
Perrysville and federal st in the 60s
Fantastic video. Such memories!! My grandmother sold tickets in one of those little ticket booths for years. I always got a new outfit for our yearly Saint Alphonsus school picnic! And my first concert was Fats Domino at Dance Land, wonderful memories!!
I remember being scared to death at kiddie matinees of "House on a Haunted Hill" and "13 Ghosts" back in 1959 and 60. I'm glad the place hes been restored.
🔥
Don, Marcie and Angel are the best. They are like family. Great place, great people, great food!
Hands down the best diner ...heck yeah the best breakfast or lunch spot in all of Pittsburgh maybe even the USA
This is a proper tribute to an iconic Pittsburgh teen dance landmark. Thank you. It should be noted that AM WZUM's frequency was 1590. I collected in the sixties with Gary Larkin and we enjoyed some healthy competition through the '70's as club DJ's (Gary at The Loose Balloon, me at The Holiday House). Gary won Billboards Best Pittsburgh Club DJ award twice. I came in second. With a mutual friend, my wife and I visited Gary at the Veterans Hospital. We took him to dinner and reminisced. I still have his publication, 'Records That Made Pittsburgh Famous'. I had the pleasure and honor of working with Mike at three radio stations; WYEP, WWCS and WZUM. Mad Mike was a collectors collector. He had houses of records. Both had a deep and abiding love for Pittsburgh Oldies and a true dedication to their craft.
