Free-mo Walk Around: 2022 Red River Free-mo Meet
Переглядів 130 тис.2 роки тому
I had the pleasure to attend and setup at the 2022 Red River Free-mo setup. This year our venue was in Gainesville, Texas. We had many fantastic modules and models show up. Sadly a few attendees had to drop out at the last minute. This weekend was ruled by passenger trains, having 2 big stations on either end of the layout provided good opportunities for such trains. A good portion of the layou...

An ATSF coal train with a little foreign power splits the semaphores at Bernal, NM during the first day of the 2022 Red River Free-mo meet. Side note, this is the first time the approach aspects on these semaphores have been used, took a little adjusting but they are now dialed in.
N Scale Update #1
Переглядів 1843 роки тому
A quick update with regard to my new N-Scale Free-mo module. I made a fair amount of progress over the past couple days. scenery wise I've gotten a lot of the heavy hitters done and need only some static grass and other details... which will come later. Its electricaly sound and ready to run trains. I've also included MSS detection in the chance its ever used next to signaled modules. P.S. it h...

Awesome
Nice! Very similar to the real bridge in my hometown, Trondheim, Norway. no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skansenbrua. The bridge was designed by Joseph Strauss (Golden Gate Bridge)
Is that in Ho scale? Because I love Ho scale trains and nice model railroad details
Sweet looking setup! Great coverage and walk around vid!
Really great setup
Good times by all😊 Hi Dave😅
👍
Very good, are any of these engines or passenger cars actually available now?
iLike the Coors section an the paint with a light color of the fascia..it matches nicely with the desert scenery
Nice! We plan to do a fre-mo once our main layout is done.
Wow, I've been to the Bernal semaphores many times. This model is pretty good! I wish I could see to the right a little so I could see what the modeler did with Calle Solano.
Thanks for the compliment, it was fun to build! From the moment I first put eyes on the Bernal semaphores I knew I had to model the curve. It is set in 1994 when the northbound signal had diagonal stripes and there were fewer trees. I could probably use a few more little trees to be correct. As for Calle Solano (to be honest I'm not sure what that is) watch the Bernal build videos further back on this channel, maybe what you want to see is in one of those.
@@southwestchieffree-mo6136 What brand of loco & cars are shown here? Also, is that O-Gauge or G? I'd really like to buy some of that rolling stock to display on a bookshelf or something. Also, where did you get the semaphores? Sorry for so many questions! Oh, Calle Solano is the diagoonal road to the northeast that you used to have to use to get to these, before the landowners got together and put a culvert in over the giant ditch so they could come straight in.
This is all HO scale. I'm not sure what company made the locomotives and rolling stock, it wasn't my train. The semaphores were scratch built by myself, they are a combination of photo etched, 3D printed, and off the shelf parts.
@@southwestchieffree-mo6136 They're beautiful semaphores. I have five full-sized ones sitting in my garage - everything you have in your models except the concrete battery sumps with round lids. I'm trying to get some.
I recently restored a CB&Q searchlight and put it up in my front yard, it was a fun project. Its probably a long shot but would you consider selling one of those semaphores?
Great layout, i love it.👍💪
Where’d you get them from?
I'm not the owner or builder of the module but I'm pretty sure they are Oregon Rail Supply.
@@southwestchieffree-mo6136 ok thanks
Very nice my friend…
Nice signals what make are they
I'm not the one who built the scene but I believe they are Oregon Rail supply searchlights. To my knowledge they not longer make signals, Showcase Mineatures makes a very good searchlight signal now.
The 2 curve modules you mention at around 5:00 minutes are "Noah's Arc" and "Garrett Trucking" built by Jacob Damron.
Stupid question. What is a beer curve?
Haha, not a stupid question at all. One of the groups built a few curves many years ago and decided to name them after cheap beers. I think there are 4 but I don't remember all of them, I know Schlitz and Pabst are two of them.
Nice, I like the intro suction of the builder for each piece.
Oh to have a space like that to setup trains....Cool idea where different train-clubs link modules together
How can I find out when and where you meet?
Sorry for the latent reply. The best way is to follow Free-mo model railroading on Facebook.
Awesome video, those BN C30-7s sure do bring back memories for me!
Nice train! As President of the RGM&HS, clips like this help keep the Rio Grande alive!
Thank you for a great video
Very nice guys
Nice tour and great modeling. It really does look like you're all having fun running trains and hanging out. Sure wish I lived closer to a Free-mo group. The standards and expectation of quality modeling seem very high and I think that's a good thing!
Awesome wish it was more popular in the UK
👍👍👍👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Breath taking and so spacious! Best wishes from Nova Scotia!
Superb quality
Does it stay up all the time? Very nice.
Nice freights & trains & videos. Like the cabless B unit. What unit series is it ? It went by so quick with the other engines.🤔
Thanks Harold, the B unit is a GP60B, just a cables version of the other two units in consist.
I worked a lot as an engineer into and through Dallas Union Terminal. I can tell you just where each wye was heading off to and what railroad you were entering. Magnificent work.
Feels like coastal line tour.......

Very cool facility!!👍
Nice I should put my back up
Amazing. I road that train several times as a kid in the 70’s from Denver to Glenwood Springs. That is awesome.
Nice freight model train. I am such a CN fan. 👍❤⚪🖤

So different people built each scene? How do you get all the tracks to line up perfectly??
Yes, each scene is built differently. As an organization we have a standard that must be adhered to at the end of your scene. Each scene has the same standard so they all line up perfectly and can be interchanged in any order or orientation to fit the needs of the space.
Nice! That's a nice scene
WOW...
Free from government mandated thought...look what happens. Beautiful railroad, keep up the good labor of love.
Can you provide dimensions of the corner/curved modules. I know there are specifics for the one and two track straight modules . A photo or drawing of the frame for a corner (45 degrees) would be very helpful. Thanks.
Aric, unfortunatly I cannot provide any drawings or plans at this point in time. My best advice would be to find a Free-mo setup near you and offer to help setup. While in attendance ask all the questions you can think of and make plenty of friends, experience goes a long way for building modules. In the mean time check out free-mo.org, the standards are on the website and will help you understand the basics of module construction. My biggest tip would be to start small, maybe a 4 or 5 foot gentle curve like 10 or 15 degrees.
Thanks for filming and posting. Enjoyed watching. -Tom
Very nice , thanks for the video ! How is this set up ?
Thanks Louis, as for setting up its a bit of a process. First we have a design telling us where every module will go (most of the time that doesn't happen as planned but its usually pretty close). Then everything is unloaded and put in its general location, we then stand everything on its legs. Next we finalize the position of what we call the cornerstone module, the one that everything is referenced to. From the cornerstone we work in either direction setting up and connecting the modules together untill we have them all connected. After that we hook up the electronics and install fitter rails between modules.
4:27 I see someone has beaten me to it, building an F45-B unit. 8:09 Dallas Union Terminal build to scale, absolutely impressive! I would ask just where did they get their "big wooden clothespins from?", but I know the project is far from being done and those are a great idea of keeping the trains safe and not sticking out like a sore thumb as a smaller silver-colored metal clip would. Great tour. I wish there was a Free-Mo N group near me.
That F45-B is cool, as far as an N-scale group have you looked at the Free-moN group on Facebook? I also have an N scale module and took it to Evanston WY last summer, I met people from every corner of the USA at that meet, maybe there are a couple others in your neck of the woods.
That wye shown at 8:09 actually existed at one time as shown here. It stretched out over the Trinity River.
Greetings from Birmingham UK 🇬🇧. I have seen many, what we consider large layouts at exhibitions over the years. Some have been modular, but by individual modellers, who can take various parts of their layouts to suit the accomodation available. This is something new to me and a very interesting idea. A cooperative model that could go on almost literally forever. Eat your hearts out train simulators 🤣🤣. Loved the walk about demo, and the many individual scenes. The various bridges were quite outstanding. My one, not critical, observation is that many of those scenes are probably better seen from inside the layout. Fantastic overall, thank you for sharing 😀👍
I believe the UK has a similar concept to this. What I am thinking of is called fre-mo, I am in no way affiliated with that group so I can't speak much for it.
@@southwestchieffree-mo6136 Yes, it was your description I was singing praises of. I know of nothing this big in the UK, but I like the idea. 👍👍
Nice local freight. The Layout is magnificent. 👍
I love the EOT module. The red flag and abandoned line so cool!
