TRIBUTE TO JOHN R AND WLAC
Переглядів 51 тис.16 років тому
The first thing I ever bought with money that I earned was a radio of my own. That was in 1956. Soon I discovered WLAC and John R, Hoss Allen, Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf and many others. They determined the musical preferences for my life. Even the commercials were entertaining on WLAC! For more on the history of this station use the link below. www.yodaslair.com/dumboozle/wlac/wlacde...
Not since the psychedelic band H P Lovecraft has a group been denied the Better Pay.
They were an amazing band… I would see them at Butcher Town Pub in the early 80’s.
Thé best ever
Before I came to Miami, I worked in the Mail room at L and C insurance which the Radio Station WLAC was.One day I was taking the mail to the station,a Lp to Mr.Chuck Mitchell doing the morning shift.
I liked working there , but I got d sick with the flu and was down for a week, so I lost that job.
When I was young I never thought that I would be able to even enter the building, much less work there.
I remember listen to John R on WLAC on one my car radio .that is the first time I heard rainey night in Georgia. I will never forget that time on a Rainy Night on a Georgia dirt road
Naver new he was white I was a little country boy liveing with my grandma big up John r.he had a lot of soul
So good bringing back these memories of John R and WLAC, I'm in Hattiesburg Ms, and this is what we looked forward to hearing late at night. John R inspired me to become a radio jock. I'm heading into my 52nd year. Thanks John R. R.I. P.
John thank you for your service, this is dr belle you were one of my dj that i loved.back in the 60s
I had to keep my fingers on the dial to keep wlac tuned in up here in Toronto. Got excellent reception on my stay in Acapulco though. Loved The djs and the music.
Bocephus brought me here
When the boys were playing in Lexington, and Richmond, and other cities in bars I had the honor to take the admittance charge for them for a year or two... almost a roadie (they really didn't have one at the time). Their talent will be sorely missed.
During WLAC's R & B era, one of my Uncles stated he would listen to WLAC in Connecticut at night. That's a long distance for Nashville, Tennessee.
I listened to WLAC for more than 15 years from the 50s to the 60s in South Carolina for most local stations signed off at sunset.
I listened to WLAC for more than 10 years; 1955 to 1965.
Wow !!! So awesome... Heard them sing that soooo many times... Still great🎹🎸🎶🎵.
Put some saw dust on the floor
Don Henley brought me here.
Remember listening to WLAC Nashville late night on an AM radio at night when I stayed at my grandmothers house. (1969/70) I was probably 12 or 13 in London Ohio.. Great memories...sure miss those days
A música aqui apresentada não é executada pelos The Ventures!
I just found out John R was a white man, after 55 years. I remember laying in bed with a small transistor radio and i could pick up WLAC all the way from Nashville to a holler in Dante, VA. He got me hooked on R&B music. Still hooked but miss those early days of R&B. Thanks John R, may you rest in peace.
Don't forget those baby chicks ship them on the greyhounds Bus Fare was Only 5:00$ covered everything including shipping and handling.
Oh I remember those old nights listening to J.R..on the old A.M.transistor radio back in the 1970s it would fade in and out but would come back on (the signal) at 9:00p.m Every night here in Monticello fla. Then came along in 1973 I got spiderize thanks for the memories.
Don Williams brought me here.
This is fantastic!
We all thought the DJs were Black. They sure sounded like it. What memories.
The Friday nights I remember as a teenager riding in my best friend’s Ford convertible. listening to WLAC. Nothing better

In very loving memory of Mr. John David Richbourg (1910-1986 R.I.P. // gone but not forgotten).
Totally AGREE - a legend on Radio!

These Kentucky children (i am one) are so appreciative. Thanks, Nick, Renee, Rodney, and Frank. Newer musicians who are joined are also awesome that elevated this great culture!
No, Nick passed too.
Stump... Still crying. I miss you buddy
Awesome blues singer...sad to hear of his passing...
Sad to let you know that Nick passed away today, 2/17/2021. The world is a lesser place without him and Frank.
So sad to hear that Nick passed away today. One of Kentucky's most colorful and talented musicians. I don't think I'll ever understand why "Night Patrol" failed to get the national attention it so deserved.
R.I.P Nick.
Crying.
Rest In Peace Nick.
Oh Hell Yes!
Listened in southern Ohio in the late 50s, early 60s.
I lived in a house in Lexington, Ky. with a lot of beloved people back in 1973 along with Frank and his lovely SO.. He was so funny and a special unique artist, connected through FB with Nick Stump finding a post yesterday on FB. I just learned of Frank's passing. All Stars Metropolitan Blues Band are great and opened up a whole new cultural world for me! I now live far away and life changed for all of us but these memories are great gift!
I just picked up an album of these guys and its amazing!!
