can you hotplug the egpu or do i have to plug the egpu first before turning on laptop then shutting down laptop before unplugging the egpu?
I Tried to do like your video but not success with MacBook Pro 2019.
Great project! I did a similar one. And funny side note: my first idea was having very similar construction for frame and motor mount. So you could remove the mower quite easily having a modular system. I did all the electronics above the mower for that purpose. I went for a different frame design now and I am using a 4WD RC set - so that was trivial to set up (1 minute). But difficult part was that I used own massive 84V ebike motor controller and a step up converter to wire original mower motor to main 24V battery. I have chosen a 51cm mower from Greenworks. Next will be an improvement in frame and GPS RTK. So this is still work in progress.
Nice. Yeah I plan to remodel this to a 4x4 but I have concerns about tearing up my yard. But the extra torque would be very helpful for my sloped side lol.
Does this work with bootcamp?
Yes it does!
excellent video keep doing what you are doing now
@ronnierocha9894 thanks man!!! More updates coming soon
"It look's like"...your not used to "tech"!
Do you have to remove the mechanical on, off tabs? I see you brought them close to each other.
Shouldn't matter if you do or not. As long as everything fits.
This video was about how to fail miserably and post it just to let the internet know.
@@jantodiq ?
the tb3 thing is over 100 bucks by itself. You know which types work? my cheap usb-c to NVMe only shows as storage , thanks
@VincentTubed needs to be tb3 or faster. Tb2 MIGHT work but not as well. Speeds have to be at least 20gbs or more
@@cmactech thank you. should usb-4 work too or does it need to be thunderbolt? there are a lot of fast usb-4 versions that mention thunderbol compatible.
@VincentTubed USB 4 is good. As long as speeds are at least 20 gbs.... USB 4 is faster so it'll work
@@cmactech It's not the only requirement though, the issue I had with one is that the OS would only see a storage device. I'm afraid to buy the wrong thing and it's hard to see if the device supports things like GPU
Thermal paste glue the adaptor back in place? Why don't use an new part of double sided tape?
@patrickschnur because that's what I had. If you have that tape, that will work too!
Have you thought of possibly selling some of these to residential customers? This is a great idea.
@ernestgonzalez77 oh if I had a dollar every time someone stopped by and asked me that 😆.
Is this permantly on your pc? like can you still go back to windows 10?
I believe you can roll back. Unsure its been a while.
@@cmactech Ok. but this is patched sorry
what is the length cut of each bar?
I don't remember exactly but I just went to home depot and got a couple of steel 48 inch square tube. I pretty much winged it without too much of a plan. Just measured as I built.
Have you had any trouble with the jumper connected to the 24pin? Does your gpu startup with powering on your laptop or does it power on while u turn on the power supply?
Ahhh man its been a while since I used this set up. But I never ran into any issues. GPU needs to be powered on externally with the external PSU to work.
I made a house for $28. I used my existing house, and replaced the lock on the front door with a $28 lock.
Thank you I will follow this! I tried on my own and had a grounding issue and got electrical shock in the pool
Ouch!! You got this!
Yoo I Have. A Question. I have a Mid 2014 Macbook Pri i7 Quad Core with thunderbolt 2. Since Thunderbolt 2 Is Capped At 20 Gbps Can i buy a 20 Gbps M.2 Enclosure to save my money instead of expensive 40 Gbps will it work?
Thunderbolt 2 should work if you can find the adapter. But I am unsure of any m.2 to thunderbolt 2 adapters. I’m unsure how well a gpu will do on it thought If it’s newer than 2017.
this is awesome, ive been looking for a budget egpu setup. idk why i thought of this sooner. might end up making a follow up video to this video on my channel.
Glad this helped!
@@cmactech yeah thanks, what would you recommend for a budget gpu I was thinking the and rx 560 4gb. And also can you plug in the Egpu into a thunder bolt 2 dock and just have it connect with one cable or does it not work like that?
@@edward-jk4ol that’ll be a good card for TB2 if you can find an adapter. Bottom line is you need speeds of at least 20 gbps and you need to have a separate psu for the card like in the video.
you don't need to crank it down with the screw - just slightly tightened otherwise you run the risk of cracking the NVMe board.
Just saw your video. Fantastic. I am getting ready to build one too, but currently i am just using a small version. RC and the mower as a trailer. Just a small motor and some blades. Already ordered the the hoverboard motors for the 2nd project
Have fun!
this is a good tutorial, but from where did you learn that thermal paste is glue, cause oh boy you just wasted a lot of it
Im happy i was able to help! Where did you hear me say it was glue? Sorry I made this video quite some time ago. If I said it was glue, it was probably for beginners to understand the purpose for the paste. (To stick onto something). Didn’t mean to confuse any one with the terminology lol.
It cool but electrical lawnmower suck. Should of went with a gas powered one instead
Thanks! Actually, this Ryobi mower is just as powerful as my old 161 cc mower. Still going strong after 2 years.
@@cmactech that's good. I was going to do like yours but I realized it cost a lot of money. At the end. You should look at hoverboard RC lawnmower. They take the motor, battery, couplers, circuit board, all you need is a RC receiver. I was watching a Russian guy have all wheel drive but I don't understand this diagram. When it comes to wiring the both circuits board to the RC receiver. But it is much faster and cheap. I bought myself a cheap hoverboard but realized the motors gear has 6 pin holes and the board takes 5 pin. I might have to rewire it..I can send you the video and maybe make a video about it.
Yeah I seen those too. That’s a good option, but for me I have a sloped yard so I needed bigger/fatter tires. It was just easier to use a motor that already had a bracket to fit good tires. But if you build one please let me know! I’d like to check it out!
@@cmactech they have a hoverboard that has off road version they look very pricey. But I have seen on the Internet you can peel off the old tire and add some 4.10 types. I think that's what I have to do too. I don't have a flat lawn. I'm not worried about the tires yet. I'm more focused on how to connect the two circuit boards together so it has more power. Hopefully I can get more information from that Russian guy video ( language barrier is the issue) Once I figure that out. I need to find a lawnmower without doing any welding so I can connect all 4 wheels using a mount shaft coupling. Its shame not many people are doing this project it seems like a man's dream to build something like this. Plus there aren't many videos of people in detail about how to do it. It's just bits and pieces out there. The only one I saw is one French guy (one motor) and that Russian guy ( two motors) . But the Russian guy's schematics are a bit hard to understand. I recently bought two very cheap hoverboard one seem heavy then the other one. But it's ashamed they don't have the main circuit board. Not sure why there isn't any from the hoverboard I purchased. just today I have to buy one from eBay. So we will see how this project goes this summer
I did this, every step the same. After installing the drive simply not recognized as boot up drive. Disk utillities still sees it.
Any luck?
Installed it as well. My drive is simply not visible at all in disk manager. Tried with 2 different ssd drivers in that kit, not working att all. Checked the ibstallation and the adapter fits fine. Just no disk available. Don't know what's wrong.
I gotta give you props. This is bad brilliant. I would have never thought about using an M.2 ssd enclosure to run a pcie riser. Reminds me of way back in the day at radioshack looking for several different adapters to make somthing work lol.
Thanks ! I just find different ways to make things work are pretty interesting lol.
How long the transmitter battery last when in use?
Not sure exactly but it usually loses 20 percent battery after each use. (About 30-40 minutes).
@@cmactech thank you
how did you pair controler to the receiver or it was already from other RC toy?
It is a transmitter and receiver sold together by RadioLink that I bought on Amazon. Works out of the box.
Nice build! Curious what run time you get with those batteries?
Thanks! With the lead acid batteries last at least 3 full uses so for me probably about at least 3 hours of run time even on hot days.
Really? Fair to say 1 hour should be easily down with two 9ah batteries?
@@ajaxmuchacha3758 yeah if your application is similar to mine 9ah should be fine for 1 hr.
@@cmactech that’s great thank you. Yeah I have a very flat yard. The reason I was surprised was another UA-cam video said they only got 20min run time out of two 22ah batteries on a fairly flat yard. Also two motors. Let me find the video
Where the "ENCLOSURE" is? I did not see it
Would you be willing to consult me on finishing a build for a film prop that needs to be controlled in a similar way?
What would you like help with?
Looking good need to have the tools to build the enclosure and screw it into it
Will definitely do that lol
What slope of hill could this bad boy goes? I have a pretty steep hill maybe 45 degree. Wounded If 24 v motor is big enough and if it need 4 motors for each wheel
I have a slope probably about that or a little worse and 2 24v motors is fine for me although at times when the soil is soft it’s a bit tricky and requires reversing and going forward full throttle. But I have 10 inch cheap tires. If you have 13 inch tires or off road type tires, you should go up your slope with ease with a build like mine.
can I use an enclosure with a speed of 10gps or must the minimum be 20gpbs?
Must be at least thunderbolt 2. But nowadays, you should het thunderbolt 3 or 4
what is a good NVME SSD to get? I have the same MAC with a 250 SSD and would like to Max out on space
The one I have in the video still works great. I’d recommend that one but maybe you can get 4tb or something
How many cables will I need for this?
A couple
A couple
Is it good to edit 4k videos?
I haven’t tried but I doubt it. I’d recommend using a egpu with it.
@@cmactech ok thank you I ordered the Apple 2023 Mac Mini M2 Chip / 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD
Cool video, but what constitutes the enclosure, the room it's sitting in? I would love to see this done DIY in some type of box for all the components.
Definetily on my radar to 3D print an enclosure!
Does the thunderbolt to nvme adapter use a pcie x2 or x4 connection? Because i could only find it to be sn x2. Wouldn't that limit the gpu significantly?
Mine uses pcie 3 speeds because mine is thunderbolt 3. Overall, you won’t get full performance. But from what I remember I didn’t notice any huge drops in performance because the card you see in the video is pcie 3. But yes using any interface (the thunderbolt adapter) that is slower than the gpu such as using thunderbolt 3 with a pcie 4 card will be a good drop in performance.
just take my money and send to me.
Thanks for the video. About to do the same upgrade on a 2014 Mac mini, 2.6ghz i5 , 8G ram. Picked mine up for $80. Just wondering if after you setup the SSD card as the new startup disk if you left Monterey installed on the old internal 1TB drive so it could also be a bootable drive just in case as well as storage. Thanks in advance.
Nice buy! I think since I re-provisioned the Mac, Monterrey is only installed on the SSD. But i think as long as the original disk drive is installed, you can still reset and install Monterrey on the original drive (if you are concerned if the ssd will ever get damaged). The disk drive works good still as a secondary drive to store files!
Thanks. If the new SSD installed is stable I'll reformat the old hard drive. Not much on it yet anyway. On my first attempt with used drive sometimes the SSD drive often disappeared on restart. Getting new card on Monday.
Kinda missed the whole "enclosure" part of the equation here.
You’re right. Not an enclosure. Any suggestions on what I can rename the title to ?
@@cmactech Honestly it would be kinda cool to see you make a case/enclosure. Update the name of this video "- Part 1" and then have a "Part 2" video making an enclosure.
That’s a good idea. I do have a 3D printer. It crossed my mind before but since you mentioned it… I think I’ll do this! Thanks for suggesting this!
Could i make my pc'motherboard as an eGPU: connect the motherboard to electricity (disconnect all other cables: hdd...) And connect the graphics card to my laptop hdmi and to sata slot on laptop'motherboard?
You can’t do that with 2 motherboards. Each motherboard works on their own. If your laptop doesn’t have thunderbolt 3 or higher, you can still get the adapter I have in the video and instead of using the external nvme enclosure, you can just use the nvme to pcie adapter and plug the nvme end to your laptop’s nvme slot.
@@cmactech so the graphics card dock on desktop motherboard will not be function if i removed every other part from it (cpu, ram, hdd/ssd) of course let the power supply plugged in?
@@LawatheMEid no. motherboard architecture does not work like that. Just get the adapter and use it in your laptops nvme slot. It’s only $20.
@@cmactech thanks for your respond.
@@LawatheMEidno problem! I’m happy to help!
This is amazing build. Going to be my 2024 project😍. Has anyone tried to put gyros so the motor stay straight in line? Instead of ys trying to keep it in line?
Thanks man! The reason why it was challenging for me to keep it straight is because these are old wheel chair motors and one of the brushes on the one motor must’ve been dirtier slowing down rpm lol.
@@cmactech your mower is excellent. I was just in general wondering if adding gyros would be of any help. Where is the kit waiver form :)
@@Anupkulkarni23thanks man! Oh yeah I’m sure it’ll definitely be a great help! If you add it to your application let me know! Definitely build one of these it’s a blast!
I left the original front wheels on and just run it back and forth mowing forward and reverse, it's not as fun as my original with swivel casters, but tracks better and constantly mows a full deck ,just had to jockey it a little bit when turning. Just recently I upgraded the front wheels to omni directional wheels, and it tracks straight, spins around with very little jockeying in the yard
How much of a performance cut was the GPU having??
Actually from what I remember, not too much
The problem is in India the 30 gbps m.2 to thunderbolt dock is atleast 200$@@cmactech
Wow, interesting..! Thanks for showing and testing this 'frankenstein' setup.
I am happy you enjoyed it! Thanks! I’ll be uploading more soon!
A link to the actual NVMe adapter card you used would be nice. That way we can be sure to aquire the correct one. Thank you.
Good catch. Here it is! a.co/d/gPkrfip
@@cmactech … thank you for the link.
@@cmactech … adapter ordered from Amazon link. Thanks!
Happy I could help! Good luck and enjoy!
Don't see much of an "ENCLOSURE" here, but still cool that it works 😄
Haha you’re right! If this video gets more views I know I’ll hear more of comments like yours hahaha. Maybe I should take “enclosure” out of my title
What kind of external m.2 enclosure guts did you use?
Link is in description
well done, have you considered to install a GPS and to automate the lawn mowing?
Thank you!!! I have considered automating this with my Arduino to turn it into a robot. So in the future I’ll definitely have another update!
good tutorial bro... keep going and go fast
Thanks man. I sure will lol
FYI you do not need to put thermal past on the adhesive. You only need the paste if you were adding heatsink on top of the m.2 chips.
@@chrisnodbot2631the thermal paste was used as a substitute for glue to keep the adapter mounted securely in place.
I really hate that spinning wheel button on these things
Thanks for ordering! The wheel button shouldn’t spin. It should retract after scrolling up or down and is as sleek as a regular push button. Does yours spin? If so, shoot me an email at support@cmactech.com.
