I drove one same model dump truck except it had a turbo and Jake break on it about 30 years ago. Old reliable turd but those 6-71 non turbos run forever as long as you keep oil in it and keep it wound up Detroits like to be wound up. Under a load DO NOT LUG IT. And it will run forever or until the rings and bearings were out. Not my tuck of choice but a good starter or farm truck. 😊
Thanks so much for the information, friend! I’m definitely looking forward to some seat time in this one once I get all the bugs fixed:)
Great video man. Im looking to replace the system in my 95 f150 4.9l soon. The full kits im looking at say the compressors come pre charged with pag oil, but they also send bottle of pag oil with it. Not sure why. If you have any input on that, let me know.
Thanks for the feedback! Well, mine did the same thing…I think I ended up putting too much oil in mine as a result. I’d definitely confirm the oil is in there…maybe ask the seller if they can confirm???
..... Commenting for the algorithm.
Thank you brother!
I'm over here screaming at the screen - "MAKE SURE THE RACK IS FREE!!!!" hahaha
🤣🤣🤣 Yup! Major fail on my part there…could’ve been a runaway in a HURRY!!!!!!!
@@GrubNGas Got lucky and it sounds GREAT!!
@@joeblow2063 right on! Thankful for that, for sure!
Cruelty. The joke and the singing. Commenting for the algorithm.
Broooo!!!! I know right? Both hurt and for similar reasons🤣🤣🤣
Spiders, why did it have to be spiders. Itsy spider gets the smak down after I scream like we have incoming mortars. Incoming , smack.
🤣🤣🤣 Sorry about that! This was my wife’s idea to scare her sister 🤣🤣🤣
@GrubNGas lol I sing that to my grandchildren, I substitute spiders for their names. I hate spiders, my wife hates snakes. She is the spider hunter... me I carry her away from snakes like my feet are on fire. I have funny stories about both.
Your wife has arachnophobia people fearing her for sure. Lol
@@mercury3actual12B 🤣🤣🤣She does!!! She scares me too!
@GrubNGas in the Philippines I woke up to a spider the size of my hand with an egg sack a foot from my face. Wow.... at first I thought what level of hell is this... I broke the door to my room in my underwear yelling.... my wife's family looks at this half naked white boy like I was crazy. Trying to explain. My wife's dad looked in the room wondering.. He laughed at me, he said in broken English. Ok ok that is ok one. ... No it was not an ok one. Green and black near my face. Heck no. My mom taught me wear clean underwear every day.. I can't say they were clean as I ran through the bamboo hut screaming like Bobbie Ricky on fire.
That Delco Remy MT 40 and MT 42 J straps would work loose and burn . J straps can be purchased separately . The GMC BRIGIDIER was actually a decent fleet truck !
That’s not good! Appreciate the info. It’s a well built rig.
Allof them had blower 😅😅
I found that out🫣
Drove one back in1967 238 5and 3 would do job
Heck yeah! Sure do appreciate the feedback!
Where did you find that
It’s a sweet rig for sure…I think he built it. But it grabbed my attention from the get go!
I loved the part where we figure out how to take the lines off.
Yeah…I regret not showing that part. I’m hoping to remake this video one day and put a GoPro up there and show an up-close.
Solid axle front end, lifted... That is an easy subscribe!!!!
Right? I thought the same thing! That truck got my sub immediately:)
Keep the GMC just the way it is. Find a 3208 for the Ford. A 5+3 would work in the Ford, with two sticks.
Thank you for the advice! Any ideas where to find a powertrain like that?
@@GrubNGas I don't know your location. But almost any truck dismantler would have the parts cheap.
@@tn65s right on! I’ll Google some locations around here. Central Arkansas.
@@GrubNGas Up here in Maine we've got lots of running gear parts. You should be able to find what you need down south.
@@tn65s appreciate that much! I’ll be on the lookout for sure! Truck Pro has helped already.
Also check out Bus Grease Monkey. He is a go to guy on old two stroke Detroits. He’s in TN. 🎯Ask about changing the head to four valves per cylinder. Adds I think about 20-25% more power.
Wow! That’s a lot of power add! Thank you for the suggestion. Hope you have a phenomenal day!
First time on your channel as I love those old Brigadiers with the Detroits diesels, screaming 6-71’s. I subbed as I want to see what you do with this. My congrats on that starter work. You couldn’t get a workout like that at a Golds gym! Good luck!
Appreciate you much, friend! Thank you for the comments and support. I’ve always wanted a Detroit, and this one was too good of a deal to pass up:) Yeah, my arms and shoulders were sore for DAYS after that starter install! 😅
Great video - thanks for all the explanations! Shout out to all the wives that help out!!
Thanks, friend! And yes, they are definitely a lifesaver!
Good intonation with the word prov-o'lone 😉.
Thanks, friend! Have a great night:)
Love the old brigadiers. Have 2 myself
So cool! It’s gotta be epic having 2! Thanks for commenting, friend, and have a great evening!!!
I'm confused you bought it just because it had the Detroit but you didn't know what a trait was a two-cycle and it needed forced injection really all Detroit's two-cycle have to have a blower because they do not have intake valves
I initially thought it had a V6 Detroit turbocharged…when I opened the hood and saw an inline 6 with no turbocharger I was disappointed at first…and growing up, the 2-stroke lawnmowers we worked on (Lawn-Boys) were just naturally aspirated. I’m learning as I go, though:)
Love it lmao
🤣🤣🤣 Thank you, friend:)
It really needs a turbo that will really make that Detroit scream.
If I get a chance I’m putting one on:)
Hopefully no one in Hawaii gets arrested over your jokes. It illegal to laugh loud there. You are only allowed a low ha!
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! My brother, that is hilarious!!!!!😂🤣😂🤣
😂😂😂😂
@@tiffanymiller9193 🤣🤣🤣
SMH 🤦
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you sir!
You’re most welcome, friend!
No supercharger, it’s a similar, but doesn’t function as one. The blower is necessary to the functioning of the 2 stroke Jimmy.
I’m learning a lot since getting this truck. Thank you for the information!
You are a bad influence... my kids ask where I get my dad jokes. I haven't ratted you out yet. They blame me. You don't need their looks lmao. We need to protect dad's everywhere. Got ur back bro..God bless always.
🤣🤣🤣 Thank you so much for keeping me off the radar, LOL!!! I’ll bet those are some HARSH looks🫣 Agreed, Dads and dad jokes need protection! Thank you, and may God bless you too!
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Drove alot of DOUBLE BREASTED HONDAS IN MY 55 YRS OF DRIVING ,,GOOD TO HEAR THE DETROIT MUSIC AGAIN
Hahaha! Never heard that title before! Nice! Thanks for commenting, friend!
All DETROIT DEISELS ARE SUPER CHARGED OR BLOWN AIR INJECTION
I’m learning…thanks for the feedback:)
A 1980 Jimmy!! I love them old school trucks....that's a piece of American history. I am glad for you can have her....Great job, Pal!!
Thank you my friend! Having a piece of working history is always a cool experience, and these trucks put in the work for decades!!! Have a blessed one!!!
U need to put the 6:71 and put it in the ford and find a 8:71 to put in the rig❤
That would be spectacular! I love the 8v71s! Thanks for the feedback, friend!
Love the look of those ol GMC Brigadiers. Turn it into a motorhome. Now that would look pretty cool.
Thanks, friend! A big ol Airstream added on there would really cool, and be an epic vacation rig!
Wow that Ole girl would make a badass pickup. Put. Singles on the back two axles then go to a junk yard and put them together then get fenders for the four rear tires, for the rear try to find the right year for the back section tailgate now that would be awesome.
That is a PHENOMENAL idea! A 1980 GMC Brigadier Pickup! Love it!
God speed to this hero, helping an often neglected fine art live on.
Thank you, friend:)
Yippie! Always looked forward to the dad jokes 😅🤣😂
@@tiffanymiller9193 woohoo, me too🤣🤣🤣
hell yeah. way to go son. talk about getting it done.
Thanks so much, friend! Really appreciate you and the encouragement!!! Hope you have a great one:)
Just switch the cabs it will be less work
That’s a good idea. I was thinking it would work better for frame strength.
If they aint got no oil under em, they aint got no oil in em.😂
🤣🤣🤣 Good point!
I used to haul US mail in South Western Wisconsin in 1980 in that very same truck
Oh wow! That is too cool! Well, if you’re ever in Arkansas, holler and you can come run this one:)
In the middle of a recession? What the heck are you talking about? With record low unemployment and positive growth, you obviously didn't go to college or you would know the definition of a recession. Inflation, yes that's a fact.
I don’t disagree with you that on paper we don’t look like we’re in a recession. But ask any average guy/gal on the street if they feel uplifted in their personal economic growth…or how many meals they can buy with $100.00 versus 3.5 years ago…or how much home they can afford…or how many days are left before they get paid again and the money has run dry…or how many purchases (some of them necessities) they’ve delayed indefinitely… Some things just don’t fit the textbook definition.
The revs dropped so quickly in those non turbo two cycle Detroits that you had to blip the gas pedal just to shift! The Series 60s were the opposite and it would maintain the revs during shifting, necessitating slower shifts.
I did not know that…good to know. One day I hope to own the turbo version.
Thanks for the information!
I think Detroit made a bolt on turbo kit for these where you don't have to change the pistons.
@@andrewking4885 that would be nice! Do you happen to know a part number? Or point me toward a good website maybe? Thanks in advance!!!
@@GrubNGas Sorry have no idea what part numbers but that's what Overdrive did to a tag axle coach with a 6-71 better on fuel.
Gotta love those screaming demons!!
Such a unique sound!!!
I been here
Wonderful place!
I see that you now know that's a blower. Two stroke Detroits cannot run without one. You got REAL lucky that you didn't have any stuck injectors or a stuck rack, causing a runaway and roaching that engine. Go see Ol2stroker and BusGreaseMonkey for good reference on how to check for that, which you should do on every Detroit that's been sitting for a while.
How are the parts holding up ?
So far so good…just one control arm started squeaking.
As is that ford will not hold up the 671!
Good point. The suspension and axle aren’t rated for that much weight. Thanks for the comment! A lot of folks want to see the Ford stay intact and the Brigadier stay intact. I may just keep them that way.
@@GrubNGas Nisan used to have 1.8 and 2.0 engines that would go into that Ford. but I like to see the old stuff original.
@@RMPascoe oh wow! Yeah, I like the original stuff too.
I love those older Brigadiers. ❤❤❤❤❤
I do too! The sound brings back good memories of the old Detroit-powered grain trucks that used to travel our road when I was a kid.
Fantastic video, great job. Informative thru every step.
Thank you so much, friend! So glad it was worth your time!
I no how hard it is work on old trucks i have a 97 freightliner with the 60 series detroit 13 speed had it 15 years now daily driver from engine rebuild to both rear ends rebuilt and trans new clutch done turn every bolt and nut more than twice you done good job replacing that starter and radiator like that old jimmy runs and sounds good keep on fixing it up
Appreciate you, friend! Those Detroits are amazing!!!
Not a Detroit Diesel driver yet I see.
Right on!
Did you have a doubt period
There at the first I did.
@@GrubNGas Detroit Diesels are not the most powerful ones in the early models but they are reliable if taken care of.
@@johnelliott7375 right on…I can’t believe how good it runs for it to be a 1980!
@@GrubNGas I will say that if it's not beaten beyond the threshold and back you will get years of service and just do the maintenance early a thousand miles or so. My Detroit Diesels lasted years, but I wish I could have kept them.
@@johnelliott7375 thanks for the advice, and I think this one has a lot of life left in it.
