Well, nearly the end! Superb season sticking closer to home! Wonderful success with Chiffchaff and Linnet. Biggest disappointment was actually losing track and timing!! Never mind I will go again next year. What’s left at present…Linnet C4.

#birds #nature #birdnesting If anyone has any idea, or has information as to the length of time the Willow Warbler takes to build its nest, it would greatly be appreciated! Can’t seem to find any info. on this subject? There are probably a lot of variables..a rule of thumb time period? Thank you everyone for your support!!👍
The Linnet | A window into….Everything outside a blur!!
Переглядів 4063 місяці тому
#birds #nature #birdnesting #naturelovers #birdnest The last clips were from a 30 min video. Disappointed not to get the female through the ‘window’…Watching it back, the calls (ignoring the Chiffchaff song) from the Linnet were very interesting. Any comments are welcome. Yes, a little indulgence I know, but I hope you enjoy it!

Bird Nesting Walk. Great day.. until rain stopped play!!
beautiful footage !
Willow tit used to be one of the most common birds in Finland, now they are rare. #1 reason for their decline is heavy forestry that leaves no dead trees for them to nest at. Sad, Finland has 70% of our area covered in "forests", but they are no real forests. Just areas to grow trees for the forestry industry
Those Bullfinches are amazing <3
@@BirdRinginginBulgaria Absolute beauties!! Great to see them👍. Gutted about that beautiful C4 clutch..mystery?
@@thegeordierambler4373 With nests you know that things are either very positive or extremely disappointing...
I'm not joking my last walk out I found a stashed dirt bike as well 👀 what a coincidence! Lovely there mate, some good results, glad to see still got the Linnets going, need to get back up to where rhe Linnets are in my patch and see if they're going still. Cracking mate, nice one
Bullfinch chicks are like cartoon characters with hose large beaks !! Now we need a mild winter to help them all survive
Yes ‘Pistachio’ beaks Hedley!!👍
Amazing work trough the whole of July! I'm a big fan of the Bullfinches <3
@@BirdRinginginBulgaria The Bullfinch is amazing to watch!!!
@@thegeordierambler4373 I hope to find one someday!
I've still got goldfinch feeding young in a beech hedge in my field middle of August. It was the same with late goldfinch last year.
@@robinbeavan5152 Goldfinch is wonderful!! It isis superb nest…Well done!!!! Good luck the BTO!!!
With all the nests you have found this year what has given you the most pleasure
What an absolutely amazing question Hedley! Taken back by that!! I took so many hits with the Song Thrush early doors!! To get the camera on was fantastic..loved it. So.. Song Thrush all the way. Thanks for the support👍Bullfinch chicks are absolutely fabulous also..!
Beautiful and tidy Bullfinch nest! On the first nest in the video without eggs, my guess would have been Yellowhammer...very interesting nest in general
Yes it was 2 weeks later when I returned. Thinking back the weather was awful at the beginning of July. Rain and wind have dislodged that nest. Everything was soaked on the 11th July! Didn’t stop the Bullfinch from putting her nest in!👍
Wonderful. Looking forward to viewing videos of the eggs hatching and chicks growing. Thank you. Paul
Beautiful 😍
Cheers Rob.👍
@@thegeordierambler4373 Cheers Geordie
Yes, I've been watching him. If you can get to Bulgaria, it's amazing.😊
It seems like you have found the perfect place for Linnets! Always nice to see successful nests and chicks ready to leave :)
There is one near me, which I tried, but didn't enjoy it.😮 Too much messing around! Catching mainly blue small birds in a mist net near a bird table. That was near Bournemouth. I wondered whether you had a local one?
@@davidcoleman2411 I don’t know of any local ones. Having said that I am not on any other social media platforms. I follow the Bulgarian Birder here on UA-cam..a great guy to watch (his English fantastic) who does a lot of ringing and monitoring👍
Linnets galore!!!!
Yes Hedley..I think it might be wise to do the vids retrospectively. I just feel I get more success that way!? 🤷♂️..Strange times!!!
I wondered whether you might have done this with the Bird Ringing group. Thanks for your reply and keep up the great work. I remember finding a linnet nest early sixties in a bramble bush in a neighbours garden. There was a fire and some how didn't touch the nest! 😊
Can i ask who the Bird Ringing group is..which location?
Do you ring the nestling. I can see what looks like red ring?..😮
No.. The Linnets are not ringed ( I cannot do this). I see in the footage what you are referring to though!
A nice little loose colony of linnets, some lovely young linnets on view.👍
Yes very close together Paul. What fascinates me, on watching the footage back, are the overhead calls. 2/3 days apart at the ‘base’ and they ‘know’ incoming…Proximity so close!? Has to be a huge overlap in calling parents! Amazing!! Ps..as for Corvid attraction..well I hope this video dispels this!👍 Yes I knew where the Magpie was!👍😉
Lovely to see this mate, beautiful bird the Linnets. There's a few geordie lads in a group I'm in on FB and they've stumbled upon a couple with eggs in the last few days so might be worth a look yet still? Cracking footage too!
Cheers lad👍 Yes got a brand new Linnet ready to go! Building on 4 videos at present. Trying something different and gauging the success!? We will see👍
Love it! Is it a native species only to the UK ?
Lovely mate, incredible creatures a dragonfly
@@Britishbirdsnests Yes..I will get back to the nests very soon..easily distracted..👍😀
@thegeordierambler4373 a worthy thing ti be distracted by as well mate! Haha
Awesome 😎
Just had to look it up, a broad bodied chaser.
Yes Paul.. I gave you the female at the ditch.. now the male at the pond..clearly. Libellula Depressa I believe. Remember Numenius Arquata.. New Moon.. Bow Shaped? As for Libellula Depressa? Latin??? Strange one.
That characteristic sound of whirring wings, they are fascinating to watch, ive seen them in places where there are no obvious areas of water, but I think they go on hunting missions.
@@pauldurkee4764 This bigger one was constantly on the wing! It was a first turn in the weather..a brighter spell!! Ps..ponds picking up! Pps..video on the Linnets coming soon!👍
Whirring wings..I get you now Paul..!🤣😀🤣😉 Linnets coming soon!!😉
😍
Very unfortunate :/ Bad weather often leads to such outcomes...but I'm sure you'll some positive updates on the other nests mate!
Fingers crossed!🤞
Lovely video this, must have missed it when posted, nice one!
Shame about the chick's Geordie. Mother was looking after them really well. You win some, you lose some. Unfortunately that's the way it goes... 🤔
Tough watch Eddie! 🤔 It’s hard to put the 👍 to a video like this. Important to show….However that is nature and that is honesty! Long may it continue! After all the BTO NRS scheme depends on it!
@thegeordierambler4373 always a tough watch mate, don't know why previous comments refused to post but either way, it's good to see both sides, the ips and the downs
5:20 ❤️ ❤️
Beautiful video 🥰🥰😍😍
One of my favourites the song thrush, you did a good job following that nest.👍
@@pauldurkee4764 So many disappointments early on with the ST Paul. So pleased with this one👍 Got the Linnets coming soon🤞
Well done mate! Lovely to see them grow <3
@@BirdRinginginBulgaria Such a nice story after so many early disappointments..👍

Super video/story... well done and thank you.

@@eddiek0507 Great results from the Linnet so far this season Eddie. Long may it continue!👍
Very nice 👍🏻
Nice footage Geordie! Good watch :)
Absolutely brilliant! They are so well camouflaged when they finally have their feathers on
If only every nest was like that
@@hedleycrick7373 😀😉
Great footage would be fab leave a static camera there and watch the adults feeding their young 🐥👍
Great videos. Do you use a thermal scope often, is it successful ?
nice to see youre still being so productive. You'd have wasted your money if you had bought a Thermal - not much use at all for bush bashing for passerines at this time of year :-) need to go through your other clips & see if / how the wet weather affected things
🤣You try..you try..🤣🤣🤣 Silence is golden..isn’t it!! PS.. please explain to me what a Passerine is?.. It is important for the audience? I will wait for your comment..use the words.. yes explain their terms!👍👌
@@thegeordierambler4373 half the worlds birds are passerines, perching songbirds - as opposed to waders or gulls or falcons etc
@@scarecrownester8936 Stock answer.. I love it ..a perching bird!!!👍 I find it amazing Scarecrow how we have to move to Google..eh 30 mins for the response!!! and we come up with a perching bird!👍🤣 I hope you are a member of the BTO! It is banter my friend..love your comments BTW
@@thegeordierambler4373 okay mate, catch you later.
I guess the nesting season is starting to slow down but at least birds have had a 2nd or 3rd chance to reproduce….so sad though when predators destroy them
i think what GR's clips demonstrate is the opposite, that the nesting season continues apace & will into August. What changes is the vegetation & observers levels of effort . :-)
Call me old fashioned but the increasing use of thermal images to go nesting is in my opinion wrong it's only trying to big the person up and make them look better than others who prefer to do it the old way who go for a walk with a stick
In fairness, I think the tool being used for population studies etc. is invaluable(great work in this area) As for nesting in general, in my opinion, yes you are right..a numbers game!! Watching/observation is not so important when you are going for a record, or trying to get 2 more than ‘John’ It’s a shame really. For me there is nothing better than finding a nest at the very earliest of stages, and watching the development from there. The products being produced are becoming better and more affordable. Soon the penny will drop and the marketing of the big guns will move away from hunting and into birding, photography etc. 🤷♂️ Not for me tho!🤣😉
Some good spots there lads
It's easy to lose track of the nest development, but recently the temperatures have improved, combined with the long days, those chicks have been fed a lot of insects.
It’s been amazing Paul..just wish I had every day at it!! Ahhh..for retirement👍
Hi Geordie, Some lovely egg finds again and those Whitethroat and Chiffchaff chick's are absolutely gorgeous!! 😃👍🏻
Great to see them Eddie! Lost track.but in the great scheme of things..I was very lucky! Could never push in any further with that first one in the video..far too low in the bramble!
Once again tremendous amount of new nests and updates! Great job :) Those Whitethroats are growing like mushrooms! About the Bullfinch nest, I really with I could find one, but I think that in Bulgaria I'll need to go up in elevation in order to have any chances.
Bullfinch amazing! The one I found there was superb!! The female..a master at its craft..It was a stunner at first hand!!👍
