Thanks for your question. Yes, I'm sure these tools were made in China and some of them don't seem to be very useful for the type of carving that I do. Although the factory edge was sharp, some of the tools still had a burr on the edge that needed to be removed and one tool did have a chip in the edge. The steel is OK but does not hold an edge as good as BeaverCraft or Flexcut. The tool roll is actually pretty nice.

Hi Joe! Thanks for your question. I often decide to modify my original plan while carving. The reason varies due to wood grain direction, how I like the look, or in some cases I think about making the carving easier for a beginner carver. The drawing is just a conceptual idea not a pattern. Happy carving!

Thanks for your question. Wearing a mask is always an option. I did not wear one because I was carving with hand tools, not rotary tools like a Dremel. If I were using a Dremel I would definitely wear a mask. Happy carving!
