Mo's Motorcycle Journey
Приєднався 22 вер 2012
These are Gold Wing journeys from my wife and I. From maintenance, reviews on products and rides. For 23 years I did not ride due to raising a family. Had to trade in my 1986 GL1200 Goldwing Interstate for a station wagon in 1996. Now that my kids are grown I consider it our time now. As in my wife (stroke survivor) and I are living life and doing what makes us happy. Remember if you don't make the choice, the choice makes you. You can always send me anything you would like, at Mo's Motorcycle Journey. PO Box 225 Coloma Mi, 49038 EMAIL mosmotorcyclejourney@gmail.com.

Good video. What's the size of the screw used please?
Great video thank you
Why not use the center stand like the owner’s manual instructs ? Thanks for information.
it includes 2001 also. to 2004
The music in the background is unnecessary, except maybe during the intros of course! 😀👍
Nice comparison
When I started riding in 1969 here in Vegas if you had a DL you could ride. It changed in 1971 or 72. Had an endorsement since 1972...
Mo, great vid. I always use anti-seize or thread lube. Dealerships really suck. Bought a used Tundra (2021) had dealer to do oil changes. Decided to do it myself. The filter housing is plastic (cheap Toyota). I had to use my 3/4 ratchet and a breaker bar to remove. Was afraid that I was going to break it. Dealer will never do my oil again...
I just did the removal of exactly the same tire on my '14. I used the small manual motorcycle tire machine and the way I fit it on it did not sit properly as I tried to break the bead. It did eventually separate but bent the centre bolt on the small machine. I flipped the rim over and had better luck. Funny enough I had the other machine in the garage but didn't think to use it. The rear rim is more like a car rim so it more fitting a tool to use. The second half of the tire is a monster to remove. In retrospect I should have removed the sensor and moved the bead up higher. I think that is one tough sidewall to flex. I have a lot of rim repair in my future so learn from me. Thankfully it's the rear so it won't be as visible. I needed help in the end and was greatful for the help. For those who still have sensors that work gently get them out of the way and work carefully around them. I just did the battery last year so I won't have to do it again. I am also putting on the same tire as you did....following your lead. Our weather has turned so it's a good winter project. I struggled like you did.
I am just about to go over to the 70 series. I have really liked the bridgestones myself so I decided to go with the excedra max. I really appreciate the comprehensive review of the change. I'll have to see how it affects me in the cone patterns as I occasionally compete. I have a plug in the 60 series on the bike now and will say I am ok with plugs. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing
The whole area is a Blast! Don't forget to check out wheels through time museum in Maggie Valley. Been down there from Michigan 5 times great time. Also hit the Black hills thats a hoot 😊
Maybe the fuel injectors or the air cleaner?
Hey. My 04 is sputtering going down the road. Now, it only does it when maintaining speed; not when accelerating or slowing down. Also, when I stop , the idle quits and the engine dies. The FI is blinking 2 long, then 5 short. I have tried to do a soft reset and no good. I have tried to do the hard reset and it idled fine; for about 15 minutes and died. The fans never came on either.
Love my 2010 GL1800!
Thank you for the information
The crankcase vent tube does have to be connected to the bottoms of the air filter box to keep things balanced. It’s a little tricky because of its poor location but can be managed. “Good luck.”
Dash looks great!
I have a question where did you buy your lights and who makes them?
Merci beaucoup 👍👍✌️
That so called goldwing killer heard it's going to be over100,000$
It would have helped to see exactly how you removed and installed the tire on the wheel and which tools and methods you used. The GL1800 rear tire is undoubtedly the most difficult tire to change compared to other motorcycles. I’ve used a No-Mar tire changer for years and lots of spray lube and paste is mandatory. There’s also some little tricks necessary to get the tire bead to stay in the “drop center” of the wheel.
How do you get to "programming mode"? You skipped right over that needed procedure...
Thanks for the info..recall link was very helpfull
Hi Moe, for how long you cook in the oven and what temperature did you use to cook...? thanks.
Hello, I'm a subscriber. I need to float about 14.4v in the engine throw state, why do I get 12v. Of course, generators and regulators are normal.

How do you enter programming mode
I had a Kawasaki Concours in the late 80's and sold it to start my Yamaha Venture period in my life, which lasted about 30 years. I sold my 1983 Venture after buying my 2002 GL1800A within a couple of weeks. I will never go back to a sports touring motorcycle after having the comfort of the Ventures and the GW. The 2018's and up remind me of a sports touring bike almost like the Kawasaki Concours. If I ever get a newer bike, it will be a 2017 or older GW. Nothing out there makes me want the newer GW's. BTW, did you ever upgrade the seat on your 2002 GW?
I rode dirt bikes once in a while growing up. Never owned my own. Got my permit in Massachusetts, in 1983 and bought my first street bike, a Honda CX500 with a Vetter fairing and luggage trunk on the back. I got my license the same year and have been riding ever since. So I guess I never rode without an endorsement on the street. I'm 65 now and have a 2002 GL1800 in the burnt orange color, I call the Great Pumpkin. It's only got 52000 miles on it and it's a great rider.
Hey ... So how did the Shinko tire work out ?
They are terrible
sure would've been great if you actually showed how to plug them in....
what windscreen are you running?
Excellent video
Love my 05. Not looking to, upgrade? Anytime soon. (Your neighbor, the next town over). Ride safe.
Harley-davidson cvo the worst. CPU. Wish Never purchased
all of these recalls. It makes me cringe because I had a GL 1800 Goldwing. I tried it for two years, it just didn’t light my fire, so I went back to would became my third Yamaha venture, which I still have here in September 2024, a 2008 royal star venture V4. I just love the simplicity, and nothing seems to go wrong with them. That’s why I’ve had three so far since 1986. I thought after 16 years with my first Venture I would like to try something else, so I bought a BMW K 1200 LT. I don’t like to knock the other guys merchandise so I’ll just say, I try to BMW Wants for two years, it wasn’t for me, so I went back to another Venture. I was happy with that, but , A 13 K mile original owner GL 1800 became available nearby. And I just had to try one. I never had a Goldwing so I bought it. I tried for two years to fall in love with that bike. It didn’t happen. I ended up going back to what turned out to be my third Yamaha royal star venture. I put a video on my UA-cam channel giving my comparison review of my Goldwing to my royal star venture. I give my reasons for going back to the Venture over the Goldwing in that video. I admit that the gold wings are pretty much perfect, but they are so difficult to do even basic maintenance on. You can’t even see the engine, just the valve covers, and the engine is the centerpiece, the first thing your eyes are pulled to when you look at a motorcycle, you look at the engine first. And the gold wings just don’t look like a Traditional motorcycle anymore… my video, comparing my time with my Goldwing, and why I went back to a royal star venture is my most popular video on my channel, it’s astounding to me at simply stunning edit, had over 74,000 views, when all of my other videos only have hundreds of views, each, at least most of them do. just because I prefer a Yamaha venture over Goldwing doesn’t mean I don’t realize that goldwing buyer?? just about perfect. Their cars are perfect. My wife and I have a Honda CRV. We bought new. My sons each on Hondas and Acuras. I’ve had dozens of Honda motorcycles over the decades. I was a Honda mechanic at three different motorcycle dealerships, and I see that they don’t have many common problems, except for the Honda, CB 350 twins, and some of the V4 sport bikes of the 80s were camshaft eaters. but overall, if you want the best, you buy either a Honda/Acura, or a Toyota car that’s why it is surprising to me to hear of all these recalls on the gold wings made up until 2017. It’s even more shocking to me because of all of the transmission failures on the 2018 and newer Goldwing motorcycles. Just the suggestion that the transmissions are exploding internally would keep me from ever, considering buying one of those gold wings in the future… I won’t do it, especially the One that has the dual clutch set up, whatever that is, I didn’t really look into it, but they are having some other kinds of issues with that set up. Two buddies of mine that always bought the same gold wings, traded in their 2012 or 2013 gold wings in on brand new 2018, three months later they both traded those 2018 gold wings in on leftover 17s because they just flat didn’t like the 18s, and neither did their wives because there was not nearly as much room for the passenger or luggage on the newer model. when I see these warnings and stories of major recalls and transmission block ups on the gold wings, my sympathies go out to goldwing buyer??‘s around the world. I know if I still had my Goldwing, I wouldn’t be able to ride it for even five minutes without worrying about the transmission walking up… this is the most serious motorcycle related recall of my lifetime that I ever heard of. Having a fuel pump, recall, having a clutch recall, having a piston or crankshaft recall, that’s one thing. But when a transmission is recalled, that is terrifying, because when a transmission locks, that back wheel will lock solid, and there’s nothing you can do. that rear wheel will not roll. You just hope that you don’t high side, or swerve, doing fish tails into oncoming traffic, or lose control, and slide under guard rails into the beams, holding up the guard rails that Europe is eliminating because of the fatalities, they caused to motorcyclists and bicyclists… I feel for goldwing owners.. once word goes around the world about these issues, and these are not little issues, these are major catastrophes in the making. The value of used gold wings is going to go through the floor. They will become unsellable, and they may actually become uninsurable once the insurance industry gets a sniff of this issue.. Honda needs to send out warnings and ground all of these gold wings until they are fixed. This is not gonna be a quick fix in the big picture, because since the Harley tariff of 1985, which crushed the motorcycle market in the United States, and it is still to this day, crippling the motorcycle business in the United States because of that tariff over 40 years ago. There used to be 22 dealerships within an hour of my home before that tariff, today, here in 2024, there are only three survivors that have managed to hang on, and only one of those dealerships is a Honda dealer that has been in business since the early 60s, family owned and operated in a building they have owned for decades. That’s the only reason they have been able to stay in business. I was a Honda/Yamaha dealership, mechanic back in the 70s, there were seven full-time mechanics, two full-time motorcycle builders, and a full-time service department manager. Those were the days. There were many motorcycle dealerships across the country, but within two years of that tariff of 1985, more than 1100 Japanese dealerships, went out of business permanently., and they are still dropping numbers across the country. There is no BMW dealer around my area anymore, there used to be three. No, moto guzzi dealers, there used to be three. so, when Honda does this big recall, there aren’t enough dealers to be able to keep up with the workload. There is not a more complex motorcycle to work on, then the Goldwing. I know, I had one, I always do all my own work. On my Goldwing, the dealer charge is five hours labor just to change the air filter. When I first got that bike and I heard that story I thought that was ridiculous. That’s until I did the job myself, and. Five hours labor is just about right. That’s how long it takes just to change the air filter on a GL 1800 like the one I had.. it’s not a physically hard job, it’s just you have to remove so much stuff just to get near the airbox. It is really buried in there. I can’t imagine having to pull the engine myself. That’s why I sold it. It was a perfect motorcycle that I did not want to work on anymore. so I feel for any Goldwing on her that is going to have to wait to have their transmission fixed. I know they will not be able to ride those bikes without constant worry about a possible transmission lock up. Good luck to all the goldwing i bought’s out there that have to go through this
I've had a GL1800 for 6 years and never noticed an unusual clunk when I use the throttle and the clutch properly. I do run a 10w 40w full synthetic oil.
I hate riding in the heat. I “winterize” my motorcycle in the summer.
More like 4.5 qts
Pretty much long winded! FUCK! Get to it!
Good Old USA manufacturing. This is why things are not made in the US now.
I can't wait to see that bike in person. I want one
Very nice video Mo. If you ever go back, there are some good other rides in that area. They have a map at the store in Deals Gap that show all the great roads there. I have ridden the dragon many times on Harleys and my Goldwing. Word of caution stay away from the yellow paint on the curves. Ride inside the curve and outside the curves. The pull off are for you to pull over so the faster riders or cars can pass. They recently repaved the road and it's much better now. Ride safe.
Those Chinese motorcycles won't even be sold here.
Mo My husband Mike and I were fans and subscribers unfortunately Mike passed away on 09/06/24 we own a 06 goldwing named sexy bitch of you could please take a ride for him ❤
Nice video, man. Thanks!
Thank you for a great video
