Splash Covers and Spray Decks for @SwiftCanoeKayak Canoes
We've had a great season covering miles and parting waters in our @SwiftCanoeKayak canoes and Bill Swift asked if I would make a video to show other Swift paddlers what our splash covers and spray decks look like on their Swift canoes.
Of course, we're happy to oblige! Here is a look at how our Splash Covers and Expedition Spray Decks work with Swift boats.

A Spring Paddle in a Swift Cruiser 16.8

It was a beautiful Saturday, so I grabbed my Swift Cruiser 16.8 and got out on the Chocolay River near Marquette, Michigan, for a 2 hour paddle. The clips are short and quick for the first 2-1/2 minutes, then there are a few slightly longer ones if you want to see those for any reason. Happy paddling!

    I recently purchased a Swif Cruiser 14 8 that was a demo that came with a splash cover, which I didn't really want. After the first or second time out in the boat I can tell you I would never be without it. It performs awesome and it looks great.

    Wanting to make a cover for wife’s ocean canoe brought me here , I’ll give it a shot but just to make sure I have to measure from the most frontward to the most backward of the canoe?

      Hello, JRod! If you'd like us to make a cover for your wife's OC, shoot an email to us at hello@redleafdesigns.com and we can send you a measurement packet. If you want to sew one yourself, the measurements are just the beginning - making a pattern is much more involved and our process for doing so is proprietary information that we don't share.

      I like to think it’s refined and intentional in the way a marathon racing solo would be, but a race boat would be rigged for much faster portages, would have hands-free drinker holders with tubes, and would be missing all the cargo attachment points and painter lines. This is Jeremy’s solo long distance tripping canoe for non-whitewater trips.

    I have a Northstar Phoenix in BlackLite... they are truly sportscars of the water. If you are of any size, they are not ideal for multi-day tripping, but for a day out.... super fun! (I'm a fairly large guy 6'4" 220). For real tripping I always suggest something with a bigger belly, like a classic prospector shape. But if you just want to get out for a day and have a blast... OH YES! I love my Phoenix. And it always gets compliments whenever I am out. Enjoy!

    He says this as he stands outside of an unused garage which believe it or not will keep the snow off the entire car... If you live in this environment, you park under cover to avoid a host of issues that the weather can bring. I love the UP and do not understand why so many would park outdoors and subject their vehicle and themselves to this daily abuse...

    • @redleafdesigns2157
      @redleafdesigns2157 8 місяців тому

      In our case, we have business supplies stored on one side of the garage and one of our cars on the other. That leaves my old Suby Outback to suffer the snow, which it does without complaint. There are also people who have to park outside while at work, at a home without a garage or carport, a movie, a concert, or for a thousand other reasons. But we appreciate your judgement and assumptions that the garage is empty and we haven't figured out that parking inside it would keep snow off the car...

      @@redleafdesigns2157 - Thank you. I like the product, but just found it amusing it was next to a garage. We use a shed to store things like that so that our garage protects our cars. Good luck with the product and I hope that people who do not have a garage buy it.

    Hi. Im in the UK and have a 16ft Enigma prospector. Would your tandem decks be ok for my boat. Love the non drill press stud design. Thanks, as a noob to canoeing, great, informative videos

    • @redleafdesigns2157
      @redleafdesigns2157 8 місяців тому

      Hello, Nick! Our tandem decks would work wonderfully on your Enigma Prospector 16, though I wouldn't recommend the SNAD adhesive snap studs on a triple-layer polyethylene canoe. The polyethylene is a very low-energy bonding surface and the 3M VHB adhesive on the SNAD snap studs may not adhere well. I recommend drilled and riveted snaps on all polyethylene and ABS hulls to ensure that the snap studs are secure.

    Impressive! This is the standard snap expedition spray deck with YKK adhesive snaps if I’m following your videos. Stunningly beautiful boat, BTW and WOW that Swift picked up these Bell boat designs! Is this design any stronger than the “hybrid snap and lace” style which I’m considering so I can pack things that might protrude above the gunwales? I generally camp with a blue barrel and a big backpackable dry bag. Wondering how much weight the spray deck can take or whether this use case is for very light trips. Thanks! 😊

      Thank you, Tommy! When you say "front/back installation", are you just looking for a bow and stern install on a solo boat? You can always leave the center section off of our Expedition decks and just paddle with the bow and stern sections, or you could get one of our new Splash Covers that cover the bow and stern but never cover the cockpit/seat area. 🙂

    • @redleafdesigns2157
      @redleafdesigns2157 8 місяців тому

      @@tommyrq180 Got it! We could make them with snaps (either glued or riveted), but actually think the splash covers work best with adhesive loop velcro on the boat and sewn-on hook velcro on the edge of the cover. Because there's no cockpit tunnel secured around your body, the velcro is a safe option on the Splash Covers. It would NOT be a safe option on the Expedition Decks.
