What Is The Gospel? - With Adam Kaloostian
How beautiful are the feet of those who are sent to proclaim glad tidings of peace!
Most people have heard the term “The Gospel,” but what does it really mean when it comes to the Christian faith and church leadership? In Part Two of their conversation, Rev. Adam Kaloostian and Pastor Chris Gordon get down to the heart of this eternal and amazing gift. They discuss the understanding of theology and obedience, and address some misconceptions about justification, sanctification and predestination. They recognize the war between evil and the Spirit’s good works within us and how God could have reigned down judgment from the beginning, but instead, announced the good news and sent out preachers everywhere to set people free. What a great God we have!

Such a important topic!! Agreed, people need to stop reading or listening to Dough Wilson. 1.) he’s a heretic who doesn’t understand the gospel. He changes the definition of faith to faithfulness. 2.) He clearly teaches a version of baptismal regeneration. He simply dresses up this old false teaching with clever use of covenant language. This is the same heresy Galatians clearly addresses which was the idea you had to be circumcised. The gospel is clear. Faith alone, in Christ alone, by grace alone. There is a period behind that sentence. Any teaching requiring for justification or in aid of justification, one must be baptized or circumcised is heresy. The byproduct of these teachings clearly teaches or implies justification equals sanctification though maintaining a state of grace by the faithful use of sacraments or “covenant faithfulness.” On this basis alone Mr Wilson has no credibility whatsoever. He is intentionally misleading by his use of language depending on who he speaks to. But be clear, he has never publicly refuted his teachings on the essential doctrine of justification. It is no surprise he has zealous passion for promoting Christian Nationalism. There is far more passion promoting Christian Nationalism and cultural issues than the life saving gospel of Jesus Christ. Ultimately Christian Nationalism is a distraction from the true purpose of the church which is to promote the gospel and tend to lost souls. Christ told Peter to, “Feed my sheep.” He didn’t say establish a Christian government. We must always defend our church from wolves in sheep’s clothing and what is a distraction from the faithful preaching of the gospel.

Well one can use the term fullfiment theology but the result is the same. National Israel received promises but these are now fulfilled spiritually to the church. Israel as a nation will not see the literal fulfilment of the words of the prophets. Therefore i think the way one describes that kind of theology is secondary. The result is the same.

This was helpful! Even for someone, like me, who has been in a confessional reformed church for over twenty years. Thanks, guys! Also, I sat under the preaching of Pastor Adam for a few years. He is a down to earth pastor, willing to wrestle through the hardship of his sheep alongside them. I’ve been counseled by him and nourished by his preaching. And he’s a fun guy to hang out with! The first time I walked into the URCNA I came to love -- it was culture shock. I had been craving deeper understanding of the Bible and just couldn't find it. I found it in the URCNA. Having said that, there are things the URCNA could work on. This may only apply to the specific church I initially found. Not one person in the congregation came up to say hi to me. I was obviously new. At the time, I didn't realize the church was in a bit of a transition, but I also think the introverted nature of many Dutch Reformed makes it hard for them to speak to new people, esp. those of us coming in from another world (evangelicalism). Baptistic churches are very friendly, and I think Reformed churches could learn from that. Most of us who finally find NAPARC churches somehow are able to find Sproul first, which starts our journey. Thank God for Sproul! Over time, more outsiders like me arrived at this church and we began to teach the established Dutch in the church how to be greeters -- how to try to have conversations with those outside of their sphere, and outside of their comfort zone. It was actually a bit of a learning process for them. I am so grateful, however, that the Dutch preserved this wonderful theology for us to find. I'm just sad it took so long to find it. I'm also sad that there are no URCNAs in my new state. When you get older, you sometimes have to make life changes -- you can't just go to a town where there is a URCNA. It is my prayer that the URCNA will become more missional in these matters. We don't mind small churches. We are used to them. Those of us who have now experienced the beauty of Covenant Theology we found in the URCNA now have to "settle." Let me tell you, it's not fun to settle. It feels like going back out into the wilderness. For that reason, I am grateful for the internet, where I can find wonderful reformed sermons from so many excellent theologians/pastors in our theological circle. I hope more people can find our world. It took so long for me to find. Having grown up in evangelicalism, I didn't even know what a reformed church was. It was God's providence that brought me to this beautiful church where I ***finally*** got to learn. Trust me, the culture shock alone is enough to make an uninterested person run away. If you get someone who stays? They want to learn and understand. After living so long in the evangelical wasteland, I am grateful to God that he is completing the work in me, and allowing me to finally understand the story of Redemption from Genesis to Revelation. I hope others, who were like me, will be encouraged to step into this journey into the NAPARC world of churches. We need more churches, though --- and I don't know how to get that done. I probably won't see it in my lifetime, but keep at it!

39:30 The issue is when you do that, they will then say your nature is different from our nature. They will talk about adaptation and Darwin. They don't care. I don't think its a bad thing to inject Christianity into the government by running for office. Fighting for what is right does not take the place if God. To me it sounds as if you are comfortable with sitting back and watching everything happening. Read the Epistle of Jude. God tells us todo our part in the war for truth. You are letting others dictate truth. Making disciples means teaching the truth to them through the Gospel. You are comfortable with other truth being taught and then being a backseat driver. Get in the front seat with God driving and tell the people in the back this is how it is.

Seems to me the sermon is in the text. It may need to be studied for word meanings and historical cultural and societal purposes. And developed with hermeneutics. But seems we're to be preaching the ssssermons of the scriptures, not authoring sermons from them. Spurgeon was a stay up on Saturday night developing sermons preacher.

The biggest problem in my world is that a large number of the Reformed "ordinary means" (Word&Sacrament) ministry churches, don't have ministers who can actually preach well. I wonder what you gentlemen would be talking about if the sword of the unbeliever was really at our necks. Your education would mean nothing. Your knowledge of history would be despised. The only thing that would matter would be faith in Jesus Christ alone. Philosophical Christianity always tries to do this: lionize the martyrs and yet contextualize them in the stream of history, as if they had it right as far as navigating through this world when in reality they have it right in navigating toward the world to come, AND IN THE PROCESS have navigated successfully through this earth. Without the Holy Spirit, we’re all doomed

This is what going to a reformed church for the first time is like. 30 people will ask you if you're Dutch. If you say no most will never talk to you again even if you're a member for over 10 years. If you say yes everyone will ask you questions about who you know. It's called Dutch bingo and it's the primary social currency of people in reformed churches.

This is a fairly low level critique. Kaloostian and Gordon, pastors in the Continental tradition, are not Dutch. And this statement assumes that only Dutch people fill Reformed churches. The "bingo" thing is more of a cliche than it is reality, especially in Southern CA. It has happened, but hey, I thought we were in a time when we encourage people to celebrate their culture and heritage. Don't get too bent out of shape if you do come across it, they'll love you nonetheless, as countless people testify.

Christion Nationalism is an effort to tear down the protections of separation of church and state. This will not lead to Christianity in government. The question is not "Does Jesus want a theocracy" The simple point is... Government is made up of humans and the message of Jesus is directed to all people. So the question is how does Jesus want humans in government to live? Romans 13 is clear that God desires that government resist public displays of evil; hence, it is important for government to have a proper understanding of good and evil.

This could develop in different styles of government ranging from A Republic to a Monarchy (as long as the governing body are ruling for the greater good of the people which he concludes that the Christian worldview produces the greatest good for people). None of the authors the guest is critiquing are advocating to drop the 1st amendment within the American context as it relates to its particular government structure as a Christian Nation. Also Wolfe and Wilson do not believe that the state should take the place of the church but recognizes that each sphere play certain roles within the Christian Nation. Furthermore, both Wolfe and Wilson believe that the Gospel is always spearheading any efforts for a Nation to become a Christian Nation. These are just a few of the plethora of straw man fallacies the host and the guest are spewing. Their rhetoric is hovering close to slander. The only thing I credit them for is recognizing that Wolfe is closer to the fathers of the reformation than themselves when it comes to the role of the magistrate.
