Truly a masterpiece off Houses of the Holy. I'm proud of this one, i think it's my best so far :D. I played both acoustic and electric parts for this one, just like the studio verison, although the electric came out sounding a bit like the mellotron in some parts xD. Studio tuning : D G C G C D

Interesting to hear like this. The synth on the final version puts me off. Too 80s sounding (which ain’t for me).

God this would have been AWESOME at the O2 show. Might have topped the whole performance & been even bigger than all the rest of the songs that night. Even this sketchy rehearsal tape with all it's flaws still sounds like a Zeppelin bombing run with it's wall of sound, Bonham leading the charge with his exploding drums, Jones & Page grinding away non stop & Plant's wailing. Truly amazing. I dare any band today or in the future to even attempt to do this live. Lets' see whacha got!

Those were truly the good old days! You saved your allowance, paper route money, grass cutting money and snow shoveling days money (no school snow days were a real money maker). Then when an album like “In Through the Out Door” came out, your mom or dad took you and your friends to the mall where you had lunch, spent some time in the arcade and then hit the record store to go home with an album like this….and you appreciated EVERY minute of it!!!! Then to go home and put this on the turntable and play it from start to finish was AMAZING!!!! There is something to be said for anticipation verses instant gratification.

The fact that this was recorded is a cause for celebration!! This incredible song was still being developed by each member (other than Jones) and gives an insight to how quickly they picked up on each other’s songs. Bonham developed the straight 4/4 beat under the riff, Jimmy was still learning the the song and Plant was trying to find a way to add his vocals. But the basis of the song is there. Jimmy’s solo is almost identical to the final version, Plant quickly developed the “ahhh, ahhhh” idea on the spot and we have confirmation that Jones wrote the entire song

Those are Jazz Progressions. Jimmy could play jazz behind the scene, but he didn't want to get that image. He's an amazing guitarist who even knew Jazz Standards. People say anything, but listen to this. He knows jazz quite well.

A real innovation by the band . The lyrics are old style blues , originally talking about " jellyroll " etc , but the musical parts are not really blues at all , strange rythems and structure - no other song by the band sounds anything like it . This has a much clearer sound than other tapes Ive heard of this important session .

This is from their rehearsal at Clearwell Castle in May 1978, before recording In Through The Out Door. They also rehearsed an unreleased song called "Fire (Say You're Gonna Leave Me)", which has the heavy, punk-rock sound of Wearing and Tearing.
