Triumph Vitesse Sprint Hill Climb Prescott
Переглядів 6756 років тому
My final round of the TR Register Sprint & Hillclimb Championship for 2018, and need just a few 10th's of a point to ensure winning Class 2 Tuned Roadgoing. October, weather broken, rain forecast for the day, and leaves falling not a great recipe for a good run at Prescott. Put rain tyres on day before as forecast was so definite, and whilst we arrived in the dry, by first practice it was raini...
Triumph Vitesse Sprint Hill Climb Gurston Down Sept 2018

Vitesse at Gurston Down Sept 2018, a round of the TR Register Sprint Hill Climb Championship. Great venue well organised and run by BARC SW. Got to love a Hill Climb that starts down hill like this one! This is final timed run, actually 0.4 secs slower than 1st, but sun out and much better images. Keep getting quicker/braver down through Hollow, but maxed out on climb from final Ashes to finish...
Triumph Vitesse Swing Axle Twitch

Final timed run at Curborough, cooling track and trying just too hard to find that extra 0.5 secs. Despite well set up rear end, a swing axle will let you know when you have made too many changes of direction in too short a time. I'm usually prepared for it, but when it bites.....

Scimfest Sprint organised by HDLCC, A round of the TR Register Sprint and Hill Climb Championship. Not my favourite venue with the Vitesse as because of the rear swing axle it doesn't like rapid multiple changes of direction. This was my fastest run, and on the limit at a few points. Will try and add a short clip of what happens when you take a swing axle beyond its limits! ua-cam.com/video/UAR...
Triumph Vitesse Sprint Hill Climb Shelsley Walsh Aug 2018

Vitesse at Shelsley Walsh Aug 2018, a round of the TR Register Sprint Hill Climb Championship. This is first and as it turned out final proper timed run, as rain came. Previous PB there a 41.41 against a bogey/target/handicap time of 40.50. Nudging PB in practice and felt I might get there, this run turned out to be a class wining 41.16, and felt there could have been a tad more available on fi...

Triumph Vitesse Sprint Hill Climb Loton Park 2018

Vitesse at Loton Park Aug 2018, a round of the TR Register Sprint Hill Climb Championship. Great venue well organised and run by HDLCC. Finally after much playing with foam pads finally got some sound that isn't 100% wind noise! This is final timed run, where I broke the 70 sec barrier (just) for the first time against a bogey/target/handicap time of 69 secs (previous PB there 72.5). OK some 20...

a long time ago now. but if you're still on.... do you think an exle strap at the shock absorber would prevent this? a strap with some flex.

I had a ‘67 2 litre Vitesse. Great engine, lousy rear end but a fun car to drive so long as you understood its limitations. Dad had a Mk 1, 2.5 PI. That was a lovely car, far better than the Mk 2 version. Could cruise on the motorway at an effortless “ton”, all day long and was predictably sure footed in a way the Vitesse wasn’t.

That sound ! Unforgettable. I had a GT6, same engine. The little Jag.

Keep the rpm up and you keep in the power, this engine is torquey low down so you can just potter, but the power is at the high end, especially if its tuned. For example Renault Douvrin 2.2 12vi vs 2.2i multipoint - 4000rpm vs 3200rpm max power and a 10hp difference but the Vi engine fuel economy is crap, just because of the tuning.

Really enjoyable - you handled her really well, nicely done. Brave as it's a MK1😊👍 Brings back happy memories of my Sprite, 1394cc, Weber etc, about 110bhp at the back wheels (so I was told), had it airborne like Sprinzel a few times too, it was quick and nibble, handled great (discs on the front etc and other mods). Also even into the 1980s, roads were still fun, risky, but hey, all about risk assessment/decision making (rather than a blind dash or mega risky overtakes). On a daily commute, with other, unknown, car enthusiasts, 'racing over the top of the Cotswolds' on the way home, a nod to each other on the roundabout at Burford (see you again on Monday sir). Now? I've a car with a small revvy engine, handles great, 60mph feels like 80mph, that way I keep my licence (I took a leaf out of James Hunt's book, iirc he a had a tweaked mini and a CF Bedford for the road, drove them flat out, avoided too many speeding tickets).😊😊👍👍

There are two thoughts that come to mind ....brave and...." the psychiatrist will see you now!" Is it a mk2 . I had a MK1 with a GT6 engine with 5 1/2" J's back in the day and there weren't too many who could keep up with me on the Shaldon /Torquay coast road. It had many very tight corners and took a lot of mastering but very satisfying when executed well. Ah yes , memories! That road is now bastardised by speed limits, solid double white lines and speed bumps! Thank you very much.
