Ha, saw you at Berryville today (2024). Bought a wire kit, but unfortunately my Hamfest budget was too limited to pickup a bugout unun for my future POTA kit. I was planning on building a K6ARK matching unit but am having second thoughts. Yours are reasonably small and still have a bnc but I like the fact it can handle higher wattage and looks more rugged. Nice product.

The teflon tubing thickness may have been selected by Amidon for the kit in order to ensure power handling capability (withstand voltages at high power level). You might want to check with Amidon on that before using a thinner walled tubing.

Just realize that when the mars mod is done, out of band tx will be somewhere in the range of 1 to 2 watts. So you will not get the full 4 to 5 watts out of band. It will be fine on the regular vhf uhf bands and you'll get 4 to 5 watts.That's Yaesu for you!!

I use a MT-3608 boost converter which is adjustable voltage capable of 1.0amp for my QMX qrp transceiver which requires 12.0 volts exact not 13.8! plugged into my powerbank via a USB-A to USB-C cable think i'll get another adjust it down to 9.6 volts or so for my VX-7R.

You got a year out of yours. I got 1 QSO and now it wont turn on. Completely dead. I don't want to open mine until either the manufacturer or my UK supplier says OK. I didn't see you wearing a grounding strap.

Calibration is typically done at the end of the cable you will be using. That way you are calibrated to the end of the cable you’ll use to attach to the DUT and have a meaningful THRU. Calibration directly to Port 1, then introducing a cable creates a measurement error into the calibration.

With the exception of the power output on 146.520 (> 5 watts), the output on high for 446.000 was only 3. I don't consider that acceptable... not for what that radio costs. 4 watts, yes. But not just 3 watts on high power.

If you have the most recent board in there, apparently you get more than five watts. A big number 4 on the board shows it's the newest; most have a 3, which is not the most recent. Another question, has your meter been calibrated, and how about testing a known 10 watt radio, like the Tidradio H8, etc., because I don't think you've proved your case at ALL!!

How does an aftermarket antenna such as this srh320a affect submersibility? My use case requires me to have a radio that can survive heavy tropical rains hence my concern on aftermarket antennas

Might have to tell as well, that in some cases (Windows 10/11) the dfu file might be locked, making it you cant update; one thus has to go right click file, properties and wel unlock... only took me like 3 hours to figure out >.<

Over 12 volts won't hurt anything. You can run the radio in your car from a cigarette lighter (without your thingy) and that provides 13.8 from your alternator. Straight from the VX-6 user manual: 5.0 ~ 16.0 V DC (EXT DC Jack)

I bought my second roll of 16 gauge speaker wire.

By cutting the wire are you not affecting all the bands. And would it not affect the low SWR on ALL bands? Also, does the Nano VNA have good instructions that come with the unit? I have a OCF end fed antenna and need to see where I'm at with SWR.

For anyone having issues with windows saying that the latest version is already installed, try manually checking your install location and running the driver installer, then go device manager and update driver, then browse, pick from list, and pick STM Device in DFU Mode. Mine also kept updating it after, so I had to delete the Guillemot folder that had the wrong drivers (Just search up Guillemot STM Driver if you need more details)

Don't Remove the solider.... Just use a dental tool or a razer blade. Just snap it off. It's so tiny it comes right off...

After attempting to follow the updating procedure in the previous video, my Screen is blank, and I get an error message saying "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not Recognize it" . Actually, solder is how you say solder. With an L. Not sarder or sodder. Also, you should have poked the loose end in the center instead of bending the wire on itself. Also, with all that "plenty wire " as you say. I would have unwrapped one of the turns at the start to give you more wire to play with both ends Just sayin

I couldn't get DFUsedemo to see my H4, so tried STM32CubeProgrammer which would, then the NanoVNA would do anything! Nothing I did would unbrick my H4....then watching your video yet once again, I decided to delete the STMbootloader that appeared under the "extra" Universal Serial Bus controllers in device manager (hey I bricked the Nano, why not brick my desktop computer, LOL). When I went back to the DFUsedemo, it now saw the H4 in DFU mode and in the device manager I again got an additional Universal Serial Bus controller that now had a device in DFU mode! Then I was able to update to dislords 1.2.29 firmware via you instructions and it began working again! Thanks soooo much for the time you took to put this together. W4FLI

How about a length of 130-133 ft antenna wire? Will that tune well with 75/80m along with some of the other HF bands (40/20/15/10)?

glad you are back to making vids. BTW, I have an idea for a vid. Does is pay to calibrate NanoVNA with the coax in place so that the coax losses are not part of the SWR reading when analyzing an antenna or is the difference small enough that it is not worth the effort. Just a thought ;)

Weird, takes 40 minutes to an hour to flash - I did the first two with the normal USB cable then my friend said his took one minute with the USB-C cable so now I am trying with the USB-C and it is still taking at least 40 minutes. Any ideas why? I have a very fast laptop.
