2024 Solar Eclipse POTA Activation with My Daughter
Hey everyone, I am back! Sorry for the long absence.
My daughter Katie was very excited about the 2024 Solar Eclipse, so why not enjoy it doing a POTA activation! She loves talking to people and mostly hunting parks.
And while the eclipse where we were was a bust due to clouds we had a blast out in nature!
But yes I am back and be on the lookout for more videos to come ;)

K9DP QRP BCI Filter Kit Version 2.0 Build
Переглядів 860Рік тому
Today I am building the K9DP's QRP BCI Filter Kit version 2.0. This is a must have piece of kit for your comms bag especially if you are running a Xiegu radio such as the x6100 or G90, which I both own. It is a very simple build for those learning soldering. The only challenge is the BCI filter moves during soldering which can easily be solved by using a pair of pliers like I did. Get your kit ...
Yaesu VX 6R Version 4 Board MARS Mod
Переглядів 5 тис.Рік тому
Happy New Year Everyone! Thought I would make a quick video on how to MARS mod your Yaesu VX-6R with the latest version 4 board that has the solder bars (bridges). This is a very quick video for those that have the Version 4 board and were asking if it was any different, it is not just a solder bar not a blob. 73, Matt N3VAN

Charge Your Yaesu VX-6R & Other Yaesu Handhelds Using USB C Cable
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
Found this great way to charge your Yaesu VX-6R or other Yaesu handheld radios using a single USB C cable. The cable is specifically designed to ONLY output 12V or less to your device unlike some that can go over and damage or destroy your radio. This is a great addition to your comms gear or emergency bag(s) so you can charge your Yaesu HT during an emergency. Warning: Always check the output ...
Xiegu X6100 Disassembly
Переглядів 8 тис.Рік тому
Hey everyone! Long time no video. I missed you guys but have been traveling to Hamfests and dealing with work. I am finally back making more videos and decided to make one for disassembling the Xiegu x6100 QRP radio to fix a friends broken DC power jack. If you have any questions please put them in the comments. Will be making a follow up video on how to replace the DC jack shortly. 73, Matt N3VAN

Winter Field Day 2023 After Action Report & POTA K-8855 Activation
Normally see that with a loose connection.
Hi , I have completed the installation of the filter and want to test before using?. I used a multimeter to ensure there is no ' shorts' as such and checked for sloppy soldering, all looks good. But would like a second option TIA
Hi there I am haveing trouble with progamme I get as far as dislord releases then im lost when you go to the bootloader software thanks phillip
Thank you! question: i have a rig expert that showed 1.19 swr and the nano VNA showed 1.363. i assume i should trust the Rig expert? is there a way to fine tune the Nano?
Hell no!
Just have to start off teaching them what wires not to plug in where :)
How hard is it to get licenced?
Not too difficult but many XYL's are only interested in the hobby when needed.
Was just thinking of that. Wish me luck teaching her how to use my drake 75 manual tuner 🫨
Good luck, hope she picks it up quick! 73
Everything went as your video depicted, but it bricked my Nanovna. You'll save yourself some headaches if you PAY ATTENTION (unlike me) and get the proper H4 file - and not the H file.
Thank you for the excellent instructions which I used for upgrading my NanoVNA-H
Hi bud, will the mars mod work on the v6 E model thanks
this won't work sadly, the copper tape is just to thin, and the mesh might burn .
What is the model number of your tester
This is very helpful. I wish someone could make a simpler version. Like for amateur radio operators. Not for engineers.
How do you delete traces?
You never replaced the battrery. ?
A great video, but this design has many flaws, and there are better options! 73
Great video Thank you
Nice video. In Yaesu FT3D retire the bridge back in the radio? Thanks
Nick KJ5HSL I have a Nano-H. I did your calibrate etc but it won’t keep the saved screen settings, what can I do?
U jump around so much. Did the mod reduce power or was it the same? Thanks.
Sodder? Oh sollllder.
One quick note. If your going to use two cables for your measurement, then use both cables (coupled with barrel connector)) for the "thru" calibration step..
I'm curious...in the menu function, did you have the power level set to "high"?
Have you ever thought about changing the dc barrel jack out for a board mounted power pole and modifying the housing a bit? Do you think it would be possible?
Thanks for the nice Upgrade Video worked perfectly even with the version 1.2.40 Build Sept 6 2024. Much appreciated.👍
But doesn't this do the same thing as the reset with the B+C+D keys?
A built-in rain gauge! Listen up, Yaesu! 😂 Thanks for the video. 👍
dang my VX6 is only doing 300 milliwatts on 6M, not quite what I expected after watching your video
The cable is not keeping the voltage below 12v. The meter is measuring the source.
Notice that the PA device the temperature sensor & another device has no heatsink compound , would it help to keep things a little cooler. Nice video's. Keith G8IXN
Rosszul forrasztottad.Nem jó az egész ,mert a föld a két tekercs közös vége.Az antenna leágazás a 11-12 menetnél van.Nem érted az egészet.
Just curious. I ordered and used the exact cord and meter. I’m using them for the three vx6r I have. None of them will charge with 10000 mah anker power bank I have. Any help or info I’m missing?
This was helpful here in November 2024 for me.
is this still submersible after the mod?
Just updated a new NanoVNA H4 to version 1.2.40 Build Sept 6 2024. Had all the issues illustrated in the Video and all resolved as shown. Very Good.
How do you delete or over write a saved space. Can't figure out how. Thank you.
It doesn't look like you are wearing an ESD strap. Is that mat also an ESD groundable mat?
Will just folding it back, rather than cutting it work okay, or does it need to be cut to actually change the frequency at the dip?
Did you have any caps across the internal unit?
You are a Saint! Wow great help to me! Thank you!
So, is there a bootstrap that has to be installed before the Defuse update will work? My NanoVna-H4 seems to be stuck in DFU. The software evidently loaded and uploaded as per the video. It just does not exit DFU. I tried the software button, no joy. The part I did not mention is that the touch screen stopped working and the vendor replaced the unit. Me, being the way I am, have to try to fix the problem. I replaced the STM processor (hot aired the chip and soldered in the new one), with new chip from Digikey. I'm thinking there must be something else outside of a straight firmware update. Any ideas? Thanks. ve7bul.
a terrible video!!! glaring on the screen, not explaining nothing....."Oh!! that dip is nice" wtf does that mean??? you don't show nothing!!!!
Great! Just FYI: Calibration files on an SD card from an older firmware won't work and will give a format error. Does anyone know of a workaround?"
This is a good video! Showing the antenna as it is setup would also help, such as how tall your mast is and what not.
I have gotten better audio reports from my Chinese radios. I am fairly new into the hobby and bought yeasu because i thought it was one of thebest. I still love my vx6 and my vx7 but they are far from perfect radios.
Hi Matt, that paddle is a beaut, I have a black one, and I really love it. The perfect compliment to my IC-705 and my EFHW Bugout xl. I also have a code cube for it somewhere. I keep looking for the Pico Paddle or the straight key to come up for sale, but they really do fetch premium prices.
Main reason why I MARS mod Is for GMRS use. I have both a technician and GMRS license. I refuse to buy new radios just for GMRS when I have perfectly good equipment that can be expanded and then I can use one radio for both. I am on both equally. This way I can monitor the ham and GMRS repeaters and talk back from one radio.
Interesting to see that its a different machine under the hood than mine.
Great video! Upgraded my H4 with no issues following your instructions.
Great work! Nice job on the antenna work!!!
