The ListenUpNotDown channel name came from my own desire to be able to navigate through life the best way possible. I came to the realization, by the absolute grace of God, in one moment of time in 1977, that the ability to live my life to its fullest was to simply give my heart and life to a Savior who not only knows me better than I even know myself, but has a plan for all who call on Him - a plan that not only affects every area of life here and now, but stretches wonderfully into eternity. I've come to not only hear of the reality of Christ and His forgiveness and love for me. The one best qualified to tell us how to manage and maintain our motorcycles is the manufacturer of that motorcycle, and so it is with our lives - and the originator of life itself and manufacturer of both you and I absolutely proved His love for us by willingly giving His life up to judgement for the sin we are guilty of. Feel free to drop me a line at Jdilpkle@gmail.com.

Sounds like this is coning together in a positive way. Good for all involved.
Those black and orange birds think you are the bird whisper since you have tamed the black and orange Mr. Munch. Sounds like good news on the lens. Did you get that transmission off to Idaho yet?
Sigh…. The trans is sitting in a box that is too small to ship to the rebuilder. I’m thinking about running by a big Tesla dealership in the area to see if I can snag a heavy duty box if they have any laying around.
1965 i rode here still coming at 75 years old many bikes later
We should all be open to change. Inspirational words spoken today Joe. My time for some personal reflection methinks. 👍 🏍️🇩🇪 dk
Good news for you!
Professional blurring without a doubt.
Rob, I hope all is well with you, I'm ready for monsoons maybe this Monday/Tues.
@@verbalwidget7267 Hello Dave. I'm OK. I hope all is well with you and the monsoon is uneventful and brings some relief from the temps.
Yes he’s back. Where have you been? Busy eh? 😂 There is no escaping them Lupines. I just love ‘em. 🪻🪻🪻👍 dk
Who would have ever guessed - flowers??!! Roses wouldn’t work the same.
Good change is good, I'm happy for all involved.
Thank you Dave. You got it.
Joes back!!
First!!
Nice hat!
That goes without saying Rob. My favorite hat. Thanks again.
I’ve been riding LC GSA’s for a number of years. Lately I’ve been looking into getting an airhead as a second bike and perhaps do some light touring. Perhaps I might be crazy, but you only live once. Happy riding from sunny and humid florida.
You're looking good Joe. Good to see you soaring high, beautiful shots.
I’m certainly pretty sore after trudging around up there. Nice area for being so b can lose to millions of people in the valley below.
Thanks. Nice shots of the birds!
Blurry but you can at least make out they are something resembling birdish type things.
Beautiful lake location 😎
Yes. For having literally millions of people in the valleys below it’s a great place to escape to and well within reach.
I hope I never have to do this but this video will be super helpful if I do. Thanks!
Great progress!
It surprised me too Rob!
Top job you done there, good idea to take notes and photos of the strip out, you get a great feeling of satisfaction working on your own bikes, especially a bigger job like you are doing here. with new clutch and transmission Mr Klaus going to be a pleasure to ride and you can say I did that. A good tip I saw on another channel when bike on centre stand put a strap through front wheel and centre stand so it cannot roll off stand if bumped accidentally.
Thanks. I’m pushing onward. Yes, wouldn’t want it to push off the center stand, especially with the rear swinging arm off - that would be a mess! Good to hear off you. Joe
BTW … now I can’t get that Bad Company song, (seagull) out of my head great music as always.
My dad used to call me a seagull. I can’t elaborate being a family channel and all… Ha ha
Great stuff Joe. You made it look easy. It was about this stage I stepped back and felt somewhat overwhelmed and I had yet to progress to clutch plate disassembly on top of all the bits I’d disassembled but like you I had boxed and labeled stuff to help with rebuilding. Your camera work has been ‘spot on’ and others will really benefit from watching. I thoroughly enjoyed your ‘wrenching away the trans!’ 😂🎉 Good luck, keep smiling your doing well 👍🏍️🇬🇧 Dave
Thank you Dave. I figured I’d throw the camera on and see where it looked. Now I can fine tune it. Pics and notes are a must for me. Good to hear from you as always Dave. All the best.
Here I am Joe! With surgical precision and cunning, you successfully extracted the transmission from the belly of the beast. Nice work brother. Well as you can imagine I need a short nap now. Happy for you getting that done👍👍
I was napping during the process. 👍🏻
Good morning from UK Joe. It is 0354hrs here I just woke up and thought I’d just check in on the news/youtube etc and watched your vlog. What a lovely place you’re in. The lake, hills, lupine and all ⭐️🇺🇸 Congratulations on 69th man some achievement hey? and a great way to celebrate 👍 Dave 🇬🇧🏍️🇩🇪😂
Sitting in a field of flowers overlooking a lake with a cold drink sounds good to me. Enjoy & appreciate.
Nice shots of the Red Winged Blackbird. Happy belated birthday.
Nothing wrong slowing down a bit as long as you still enjoying life, happy birthday for your 69th I not far behind you and I have also slowed down somewhat but still enjoy getting out on bike and enjoying nature.
This song gives me a lump in my throat
Looked like a nice day to be out Joe, that bird looked like Mr. Munch having black with orange stripes. Happ 69th birthday, my 66th is this month also, but we are young at heart ... once I get going🤣
It’s Lynyrd Skynyrd - song: Simple man
What's the music? I feel I almost recognize it.

@@JdilpkleRS thanks!
Just got back from my holiday home on Anglesey. Last year I planted a purple Lupine in our garden and whilst there it was flowering. Beautiful. (Synchronicity at work here Joe 🤔) Dave 👍
Ha ha! Wonderful Dave. I had a previous channel that I deleted in a fit of frustration, but I was going off road periodically on a 650 Suzuki duel-sport to a campground called Lupine at the time. The flower stuck from that time onward and was adopted by the channel. I like the thing.
Slow and steady wins the race Joe. It worked for me 👍🤞😂 Dave
Looks like your making progress, sometimes hard to get the motivation for something like that. I'm "wrenched out" too but I need to finish that last KLR and get it gone. Ahhh ... the DR650 days, good times, I'm sure Mr. Munch would like a little DR brother.
Wrenched out is a good way to put it. New evidence shows that Mr. Munch saw to it that Cedric was put out to pasture. Hummmmm.
Love ya stuff 👍🏽I’m happy to have come across you’re vids. After recovering from a few get offs I’m getting back into bikes, probably similar to Mr Munch. Al Australia)
Thank you for the kind words. I fully understand the get off to get up ratio in a motorcyclists life. I’m glad you enjoy coming by, because it’s good to have you here. All the very best. Joe
Had a RT100, with kick start! Needed piston rings, FYI the cylinders are hard coat and just need to be bottle brushed. Many, many miles laid down.
The RT seemed to be the comfortable touring steed that the RS wasn’t. Old school but reliable. 👍🏻
Thanks for mentioning locations of your travels. I see many travel videos that look interesting but they never say where they are.
Yes, you never know who may be in the area and may want to visit some locations that are nice.
Good to see you making a start, I am the same as you nibbling at jobs, just a bit at a time and we will get there.
Ha ha! Yes, sometimes that the only way I can get things done. A bit at a time. You are a man after my own heart. All the best. Joe
Glad that you got out today Joe. Looked like a great area. On the Vstrom? Have you mailed Mr Klause back half away yet?
Uploading Klaus update this minute Dave. 👍🏻
So we now know the LUND flower. Will you reveal the channel bird in the next episode?
I have one in mind, but he lives in a different state. Time will tell.
I see your volt meter and clock are just as informative as the ones on my 1975 R90S.
They are probably more informative than yours - they bounce around though unplugged - ha ha. Crazy bikes aren’t they? But fun. All the best. Joe
Well done!
🤣😂🤣😂👍🏍️🇩🇪
This summer coming to a theater near you! The galactical rider "Joe of the Cosmos" and his mechanical friends.
From the planet Beemerblob. 👍🏻
Very swish. I forgot to mention, I actually did nod off more than once on your recent Mr Claouse gearbox video, result!🥱
Excellent!
Joe your day with Mr Munch turned out swell (as you say over there in the states) despite the windy weather. Safe and sensible decision. Thank you so much for the ‘shout out’ toward the end of the video. Totally unexpected and made me chuckle. Greatly appreciated thank you. In the last 4 days I have given my RS a proper road test with a 200 mile trip to my holiday home on Anglesey, North Wales 🏴 and back home. All good so far no unusual issues/leaks/noises etc hopefully it will continue that way! 🤞 Good luck with surgery on Klaus. I’m looking forward to anything you put together and share on YT. It’s a big job so if filming Mr K’s surgery gets too much I’ll understand. Still chuckling about the shout out my family were enthralled ha ha ha 👍🔧🛠️🏍️ Dave 🇬🇧
A swell day indeed in spite of the change in plans Dave. Glad to hear of your successful check out rides, that gives me hope that things will turn out likewise here eventually. I see the channel as a group of friends that enjoy each other’s company, even if by video. Communication is communication isn’t it. All the best to you and you family Dave, it’s been a real pleasure. Joe
Good call on the wind Joe, no fun … no bueno. I’m assuming the Beemer has a dry clutch like the MotoGuzzi s I use to work on? You got this no problem. You should post the 3 contest pictures and let us vote🤔 now that I’m too old and broke body the PCT hike sounds intriguing. 🙈🙈. Maybe an ice chest wrapped with TRex tape to ship your transmission? I’ve seen that done before. Wrap it in towels &foam. Just a thought.
Yes Dave, you also know how the wind plays havoc on a good ride. I am dragging my feet a bit due to the unfamiliar Beemer territory, but I’ll have to bite the bratwurst sooner or later. The ice chest sounds very feasible for the overland transmission trek. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for suitability containers. Thanks! Appreciate you.
Although a hastily changed trip to that planned still ended up a good day out, the scenery at Grassy Hollow amazing, I am a relatively new subscriber from the UK and am finding we have plenty in common, motorcycles , photography and as you like to put it I am also an older gentleman, sitting here in UK Sunday morning with a cup of tea I really enjoyed your video. Looking forward to you starting work on Klaus.
A hearty welcome to you! I’m so glad you stopped by to watch and say hello. It makes it all worth it to meet new friends with common interests and then get to know one another to a good degree. When I had my Triumphs, I made a rear effort to switch over to tea, but my Colonial chromosomes would have nothing of it - ha ha. A pleasure having you here and I hope to hear from you much. All the very best on that side of the Pond. Joe
I want to be able to ask for "eggs over easy" before I leave this planet (although I don't actually know what that is😅), so American! Great ride and walk about. ps; photo's are pretty good, especially the truck. That would make a nice garage wall picture.
Full definition = Sunny side up: The egg is fried with the yolk up and is not flipped. Over easy: The egg is flipped and the yolk is still runny. Over medium: The egg is flipped and the yolk is only slightly runny. Over well: The egg is flipped and the yolk is cooked hard. Now you fit in perfectly 👍🏻 I’m still try to get over the “Blood sausage” I had in your neck of the woods a while back! Thank you for the kind words. All the very best. Joe
@@JdilpkleRS Thank you Joe. Now I feel like a true American! Think I will ask for "over easy" next time I am in a cafe, might get some strange looks though. We do make a half decent sausage, depending where you go. All the best Sir.
Looks like a nice ride other than the wind. I would have made the same decision to redirect. Wrightwood area was looking good.
My thoughts exactly.
ROB!! The roads a calling, have a great day.
I have Mr. Kraus’s twin brother which is a 77 RS with the original 9.5:1 compression ratio and it runs quite strong because I have it optimally tuned for dual plugs, ignition timing and carbonation along with the 40 mm BMW exhaust system. The bike has a lot of torque and you can really feel it vibrate at around 3000 RPM when getting on it and it is pulling strong. Just wondering, do you feel the vibration on your bike also ? I also have a 2023 RT and my 77 RS vibrates quite a bit more
I don’t feel any out of the ordinary vibration, though I don’t have as much seat time as you on airheads. I started riding in 1974 but the RS is my first Beemer. I’ve gotten pretty acclimated.to it in the past 3 years.
Hi Joe. On 2nd thought, thinking this through a bit, of course a strong running 77 RS will vibrate more than my 2023 RT which is 46 years newer with all the improvements that come over all these years. What I feel is the torque pulses which are actually a good characteristic of this motor when it is optimally tuned. I spent many hours experimenting and tuning ignition timing and carbonation on my bike many years ago in the 43 years, I have owned it. With the dual plug, high lift rocker arms, 40 mm exhaust, lightweight flywheel, euro Moto electrics digital Crank triggered ignition system, lightweight starter motor…. And all the time optimizing ignition timing, carburetor jet Sizes, and needle positions. So it runs strong and at maybe 3000 RPM there might be a slight amount of chassis residence making the pulses feel a little bit stronger Again, I cannot compare a 2023 RT a 1977 RS Cheers, Mark
Replace the word residence with resonance and carburation :-)
Hoping Mr Kraus gets well soon 😊. I could wiggle the wheel on my 77 RS when the wheel bearings went bad. I was glad it was not the final drive. I don’t remember how I changed the wheel bearing, but I know it was pretty easy and I didn’t have any special tools other than a nice collection of regular mechanics tools
It seems that the Germans built into the airhead platform both simplicity and complexity. Engine design is simplicity, but for example, rear wheel bearing set up and front brake caliper design seems over the top for something that could be straightforward and easy. All the best. Joe
Joe I have just spent 4 8hr days starting 6am-2pm on reassembly of my R100rs from rear crankshaft seal through to rear wheel as I explained and man have I been tired at end of each day but feel a great sense of achievement. Amazing you are literally about to do the same job! I’m hoping tomorrow Mon 13th to have ‘Clive’ 😂 running and complete a 1st test ride and check for leaks (Hoping for none). Enjoying your vlogs Joe and the progress on Mr K. Dave 🇬🇧
That’s exciting Dave and good to hear. I’m dragging my feet a bit because I know that once I begin, it has go to the conclusion. I haven’t been so far into the mechanicals as I will be going. I have to do the clutch for sure, not sure about the pressure plate. How difficult was the seal? I understand you have to block the crankshaft to keep it from moving before pulling the flywheel off. I’ll work up the courage here soon. Again, great news about your RS! If you think about it, send some pics of your bike to jdilpkle@gmail.com. I’d love to see them. All the best and good to hear off you Joe
Good morning Joe, it’s 615am here and just about to start wrenching. The seal was no problem I did use a tool to evenly draw it in and on mine there was a small seal on back of my flywheel, like an elastic band, not all models have them. I used Boxer Two Valve William / Brooks Airhead garage for info. I used Williams tip to prevent crankshaft moving forward, all good and used Williams method to remove main seal by levering out with a common seal puller and a bar as a fulcrum. I put a heavy duty clutch diaphragm on, it’s about 20% heavier to pull, I may regret that but will not know till I ride. Thought you should know. I’m no expert self taught and YT trained 😂. I also did the seal on the oil pump but no further. All diy doable. I have many pics I shall select a few relevant shots and share with you. D
@J_BONDMI5 wonderful Dave! I’ll be looking to you for the straight scoop on the right way to do the wrenching! Looking forward to seeing your steed.
