Hello there, Something a little different…it was such a beautiful day, well compared to most of the other days so far this year, that I couldn’t not get outside the house. I did sit down to do some painting today but the outside was calling me more so out I went. I decided to do a walk that I love and haven’t done for year, a walk that takes you through woodland, across fields and along an old ...

    Put the print in the fridge or freezer cos then it will get moist and the paper could fix itself faster. Just as an experiment

    For the amount of money you paid for the printer, you can't be doing that every time you want to use the heavy card. According to the manufacturer it takes up to and including 300 gsm. I have a cheap HP Inspire and I run 350gsm through that with no problem.

  • @joytotheworld2024
    @joytotheworld2024 14 днів тому

    Hi, to anyone going through the same issue - the rear feed here did not work for me. What I did is use the rear support on the back bit that you have to lean a little. Use that as the rear tray. I tried with a 350gsm bloody slow but it worked. Did not need opening that back bit Edit: so yeah that worked but leaves 2 roller marks on the 300 gsm paper that I used. Absolutely gutted. Im sure other people found a way to fix this but the fact that I have to do that to an expensive brand new printer is not acceptable. Returning this and will stick with my old Canon.

    You can use very thick paper and even almost 1/4 inch foam stock. But you must feed the stock directly from the back of the printer and not use the way you are feeding it as that bends the stock. You should have read the instructions.

  • @deanroslynmengel5575
    @deanroslynmengel5575 22 дні тому

    Aren't you supposed to feed thick card through the back?

  • @johndriggers8833

    When you use Matte paper quality setting, you do not use any of the black pigment ink. The VFA setting uses all the inks. You might try VFA with your paper of choice and see how you like the results. Also, there is a firmware update that is supposed to address some of the roller mark issues. Lastly, artists/crafters who convert the 8550 for use with sublimation inks take the rollers out of the front of the machine. That might resolve the print roller markings if you do that and use the back feeder.

    At least you're still live!😂 First couple of painting I see underground caves with wave crashing in. A later darker one looks like a valley from a mountain top. Generally I see ice/ lunar landscapes with crashing waves. I could imagine some being in illustrations of LOTTR (mordor?) Or GOT (life north of the wall) Take care, x

    WARNING: This is a long one. I approach art in general, and abstract art in particular, as a kind of self-psychology. It's not about what the artist sees; with the exception of a video like this one, I'll never know what the artist saw or wanted to portray -- nor does it matter. I'm the one viewing it, so my perception is the only one that matters to me; the only one that I discovered on my own. It's a very personal experience, but that doesn't imply that it's private. Every breath is personal, just as it is for you, and everyone else. Our perception of art is like that, so I decided to take a stroll through my subconscious, using your beautiful artwork as the tool. What I see in the first set of pieces: 1st one looks to me like a house or structure, lighted from within, sitting around the edge of a tiny inlet or cove, into which crashing waves are hammering large rocks and throwing up spray. I get the impression that's it's night time, or at least dusk, or (really, my favorite opinion) it's a dark gray overcast sky on a late autumn afternoon. Moody, energetic, and powerful. 2nd one. As a science fiction fan, my mind goes to an alien landscape immediately, but that's not fair, since I see an alien landscape in just about every random pattern. A bit more thinking makes me imagine a state of mind. Darkness in the foreground, reaching up. Lightness in the middle ground, like a valley or plain. And sky-like colors in back, spiraling downward. In the middle ground, we get tiny hints of yellow. I see dynamic emotion surrounding safety. Somber and moving thoughts outside of a space of self-control or unassailable will. Those emotions...not anger, but possibly impatience? Hastiness? Even regret? Whatever the case, the quiet valley, surrounded by dark shapes in front, and descending action in back, implies a strong center, safe from encroachment or bombardment. Next, there were the two with too many reflections. Oh, well. Then, we get one that's not in a frame or covered by glass. I see a landscape, with a line of shattered equipment in the near distance. I want to say they are war machines, but maybe they're factory machinery, now all broken and forgotten. In back though...murkiness with hints of action, possibly destruction, fighting -- or destruction through production (if that makes any sense), that is, loss and despoiling via commerce and/or manufacturing. Next, flowing water; a shallow pool fed by a short waterfall and a stream. It's inside a shaded glen. A person sits on the edge of the pool, maybe fishing, maybe just thinking. A blue sky behind it all offers comfort: it's a beautiful day, and this is a cool place of serenity and contemplation. Next, one you only showed for a moment. I saw a closeup of reeds by the edge of a pond or swamp; lots of life and water. Water seems to be a theme with these, but maybe it's just the color? Then it was the next day (or another day, anyway). First one: high, towering clouds, but not a storm, nor is there a lot of energy in evidence. It's like we're waiting for things to happen; maybe they'll be good, maybe not, but change is on the way. It's hidden, but it's big. Next, the one you don't think is very good. I see a montage of landscapes: a forest of dead trees, or perhaps a forest in a snowless winter, with clashing moments from other places, in other times of year. There's water, and motion, but we're only seeing parts of the various scenes, and they imply conflict at some points, and extended serenity in others. The one you think is horrible, which you're going to paint over. I see a fantasy scene, a battle, or rather, it's aftermath. I even see a cloaked figure in the middle distance, to the right. Destruction and no small amount of danger exists. I'm not sure what I think about all the brown, though. The next one, with all the yellow and blue. I see a building, but nature seems triumphant, pushing it back, and away. Brightness and hope dominate all, and there's a clear, infinite sky above. The next, mostly blue. I see castle in the distance, sitting in a land of plenty. a tower reaches for the heavens. We have brush or bracken in the foreground. We're viewing all this, but we aren't part of it. We're strangers here. Next, I see an eye, or maybe a camera lens. What does it see? I think it sees everything, and judges nothing. Next, I see a silhouette of a town, in mustardy yellow. Hills and trees are nearer to us, but a great shadow falls on the hill, coming from the left. It's not sinister, but something very big approaches. Next, reds and blacks. Oh, I see a landscape dark in shadow, with a sky lighted up by gigantic fire that would be visible just over the ridge before us, but all we can do is imagine it. Perhaps it's nowhere near as bad as it seems, but maybe it's worse. Finally, the last big one. I see two landscapes, one above the other. I see the desert, with somber buttes in the distance. Quiet, but nothing so close, nothing within reach. Below it, I see a road, headed toward mountains. There will be challenges to navigate, but there's no real need to worry, because we're on a safe path. We only need to make the effort. Okay, for the ones you glossed on-camera. (And yes, the gloss sheen makes them pop!) The first one. I see a forgotten road in a forest. It's largely overgrown, but there's something wonderful in the distance, and the road, though old and in disrepair, still leads there. We can still follow it without getting lost. Next, with the oranges and yellows. I see a brain...that is to say, a mind, leaping and brimming with energy and boundless imagination. Is it a wish, or a statement of fact? I choose to see fact. This is reality. This is what can be harnessed or unleashed, if we only decide to do so. Next, I see brickwork, covered in decades of graffiti, fliers, and posters. Layers and layers of history. It's very urban to me, very much an expression of lived-in places, and social change. It implies nothing of the future, but everything about the past. The next, which you dubbed as "freaky and weird". I see chaos and destruction, but not in the physical sense. I see eruptions of color and darkness. The pinks and oranges and other lighter shades make me imagine an upheaval of society. Not so much violence, as violent transformation. It's unsettling, because the canvas-wide animation of form and color implies comprehensive change, with nowhere that one can turn to for shelter or comfort. This comment is ridiculously long, so I'll skip the smaller pieces at the end (not including those you presented earlier in the video). This is what art is supposed to be: a journey for the viewer. Thank you for sharing it! These pieces made me contemplate where my own thoughts are sitting today. If I looked at them on another day, I'd probably find entirely different things to mention. What brand or type of gloss were you using, BTW?

    If you read the blurb carefully you’ll see that the estimated 2,300 prints are actually referring to 6” x 4” photos, not the larger prints you are producing.

    • @a7xcss
      @a7xcss 12 днів тому

      To find out how many 11" x 8.5" photos the Epson ET 8550 can print with a full tank of ink, we can start by calculating the area of each photo size and then compare them. Area of a 6" x 4" photo: 6 \times 4 = 24 \text{ square inches} 6×4=24 square inches Area of an 11" x 8.5" photo: 11 \times 8.5 = 93.5 \text{ square inches} 11×8.5=93.5 square inches Next, we find the ratio of the areas to determine how many smaller photos fit into the larger one: \text{Ratio} = \frac{93.5}{24} \approx 3.8958 Ratio= 24 93.5  ≈3.8958 This means that an 11" x 8.5" photo uses approximately 3.9 times more ink than a 6" x 4" photo. Now, we divide the number of 6" x 4" photos by this ratio to estimate how many 11" x 8.5" photos can be printed: \text{Number of 11" x 8.5" photos} = \frac{2300}{3.8958} \approx 590.33 Number of 11" x 8.5" photos= 3.8958 2300  ≈590.33

    • @a7xcss
      @a7xcss 12 днів тому

      So, with a full tank of ink, the Epson ET 8550 can print approximately 590 11" x 8.5" photos. Or, with a full tank of ink, the Epson ET 8550 can print approximately 224 A+ (13" x 19") prints.

    had 4 of these printers now an none are working so had to send it back and get refunds was also lied to by eposn customer services and now escalated to head departments I'm totally anoyed and frustrated at how bad these marks are and epson replaced my brand new one with 2 second hand units that was scratched and Used.. I'm so frustrated. as on face value it looks great but in certain lighting or angles you can see lines everywhere. i tried loads of methods to try and solve it from head cleanings to guide cleaning to thick paper settings none worked now I'm without a printer and I don't know what to do or go for now at all .. maybe cannon pro 200, 300 or 1000 such a shame as I love the ecotank system . cant belive there ain't a solution for this after a year or a recall to fix said issues and no advice from epson on how to fix the issue.. such a crying shame I feel your pain thanks for the videos though

    Hi Justine Just like to say thank you for sharing your thoughts and findings with the Epson ET8550. I came across all your videos talking about this printer that you purchase and having issues with rollers marks and Iv watch these videos you shared a few times now as I been looking for a new epson printer. After all my research I almost purchase this same printer but could not cross the line with the issues you and others faced so instead I purchase the Epson SC P700 and as iv only had the P700 less that 24 hrs the only print I done is to test the 300gsm capability and have to say WOW! amazing..... So thank you once again for sharing your thoughts and I hope you find a solution to the roller marks.....

    One of the reasons I stopped using Epsons like 24 years ago was because of the roller marks and ink smears on the edge of the paper. I had two that did this. And this was with regular old home desktop printers. Im just printing photos at home for myself and family, so Im not using any fancy printers like this. But its disheartening its still doing that kinda thing.

    Thanks so much. Good review. Any idea how it prints on canvas? Mx Thinking on getting one of these.

    I’m curious if you have heard from Epson about this. I really feel this is unacceptable, and they need to find a fix. I haven’t printed yet on thick paper, but that is one of the reasons I bought the machine. I do cards as well.

    Thank you for your informative videos about the ET-8550. After watching your videos and Keith Cooper's videos, I purchased this printer for personal use. I have now received the third printer and all printers have had white coatings/crumbs appear between the grooves of the rear paper feed. You can see what i mean at ua-cam.com/video/7SIUS4KeRhI/v-deo.html After cleaning, they come back after being opened and closed several times. It would be really nice if you or someone else could tell me if this is the case with your printer too / if this is normal? Many thanks

    The solution for the heavy printer marks is found in your printer preferences when you print by selecting the correct paper weight. Hope this helps you. :)

    Oh, what a fine walk-and-talk that was! Thank you for entertaining and inspiring me on a day when I sorely needed both. And, you aren't wrong about those camera lens issues; when you stretched out your hand to show us Niagara Falls (for ants), your arm looked about ten feet long!

    Thanks a lot for your video. I also have this printer and do print cards. No roller marks appears ( 😅) but texts seem a bit blurry… like there is too much ink so the edges are not sharp… Do you have any recommendation about this problem ? I can’t find any solution…. Thanks a lot

    Why not print using the back feeder with straight through path to try avoiding the roller marks?

    thanks for all the information on this printer. I am thinking of purchasing one, because I want to print on 12 x 12 cardstock. I have a EP2750 right now and can put more than 1 sheet of paper in the paper feed, why can only 1 piece of paper fit in this printer.

    I am clutching at straws maybe but paper can absorb moisture from the atmosphere making it swell enough to be larger that 300g…. Is the paper really dry as in a heated room, perhaps make sure everything is warm dry with no condensation etc …it may be something so simple as this

    I am just thinking out loud here. Have you checked the papers thoroughly before they go into the printer. Could it be a manufacturing defect.
