Yellow River Cantata, full with English translation and historical footage.
This is from the 2020 performance at the NCPA.
== TIMESTAMPS ==
00:00 1 Song of the Yellow River Boatmen
03:15 2 Ode to the Yellow River
08:11 3 The Yellow River Descends from Heaven
13:33 4 Ballad of the Yellow Waters
18:41 5 Dialogue on the Banks of the Yellow River
21:17 6 Lament to the Yellow River
26:44 7 Defend the Yellow River
29:19 8 Roar, Yellow River!
34:56 Extra: Historical Background; Yellow River Concerto 4th mov.
Xian Xinghai's Yellow River Cantata, all eight movements with English translation subtitles and historical footage, as well as a brief historical background set to the Yellow River Concerto 4th mov.
國民革命軍八路軍 not 国民革命军八路军.
Oops.
37:54 small mistake. Guang Weiran's name in Chinese is 光未然, Zhang Guangnian ( 张光年) was his birth name.
I've realised I never gave Yan Liangkun's Chinese name; It's 严良堃.
Same for Ma Sicong: 马思聪 (aka the King of Violinists).
Also some sources I've read say that Xian Xinghai had left-wing tendencies even before he came to Paris.

Переглядів 1,9 тис.2 роки тому
Phil Ochs' song, "Power and the Glory" written in 1963. Correction: Phil Ochs died by his own hand in 1976, not 1965. The final verse was cut in the official album, but recordings with all original verses survive.

"Entry of the Gladiators" is a serious military song.

Trying to take "Entry of the Gladiators" seriously. It's a serious song, I swear.

Defend the Yellow River, 1955, Beijing. English subtitles in CC.
I understand why most of the footage is either Russia, China or N.K.
A perfect description of north koreas army A bunch of clowns
If Kamala Harris had a theme song:
This song would fit the entire democratic party and all them lefty losers
Either way it still fits
just a reminder this IS a military march
Этот короткий ролик - одно из самых сильных антивоенных сатирических произведений, что я видел.
The flag should be changed to the national flag and military flag of the Republic of China instead of the flag of the Communist Party of China
(insert joke about an orange man)
......muy bonito y bien adaptado video a una marcha militar, erróneamente conocida como "circense" pero que tiene toda la seriedadd e una pieza militar.Saludos desdeTemuco, sur de CHILE, Sud América......
russian army with this song is perfect
Prussia: “hold my glory”
Glorious piece of music. So emotionally charged. Performed with love and respect towards the music.
Fits the russian army exceptionally well
I always love the 2nd verse “yet we’re only as rich as the poorest of the poor, only as free as a padlock prison door, only as strong as our love for this land, only as tall as we stand” Its so inclusive
Оскорбление России, зря...
Honestly if the music started at 0:45 it would actually make for great military march music. Even more so if you start at 1:22. It's just the first 45 seconds have been tainted forever by clowns.
26:43
The theme song for the North Korean army
If we listen past the part that is commonly associated with the circus, the march really sounds like a military march.
As a turk, seeing my own soldiers march with this song felt very weird.
imagine your nation does a military parade and some dud on the internet puts this sound on over a video of them marching
wait ...what.....isnt that the Moscow? the ship that became an submarine?
You are not a gladiator or a military. You are the entire Clowns.
goofy
The year is 2253. War has ended, and militaries now serve the purpose of throwing parties and carnivals.
Bitch , I am not just a clown , I am the whole fucking circus
A musician or music teacher will tell you that this piece is called "Entrance of the Gladiators". A circus band leader or calliope player will tell you that it's called "Thunder and Blazes". A music critic or music historian will tell you that it's called "The Grand Chromatic March". And, believe it or not, they're all correct! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrance_of_the_Gladiators
And everyone else will tell you it's called "the clown song"!
Honestly yeah, it does fit any military parade kinda well.
It was intended to be a marching song for armies... until the clown army commandeered it
The second half of the song is where you really feel how sublime and memorable it is.
Thanks, this video is what we all needed
Why are all those clowns holding guns
its to serious to be taken seriously
Some circus director thought it was hilarious to have the clowns come out to a military march and it's stuck ever since
1:04 that missile is definitely made to compensating for something...
Fucik still earns the W because his song is still used even today, despite the fact it’s linked to something it was not intended to be connected to.
Let's say it matches some very specific armies, all of which are aptly presented in the video.
personally in regards to this song, I feel it works in both ways, it is a beautiful march song but it can work well as the background to circuses (Which I feel are like not a thing as they once were who knows) it has two meanings, and isn't that great?
I cannot help but lose my sh*t at 0:21
😂😂😂
Me and the boys marching to the toilet:
I mean, this is what the song is for. Just because it got Juggalo vibes later is kind of appropriate
This could've probably been a iconic war/milltary related song and how it's used affected how we percieved it, or maybe the melody really does fit the circus too much.
Think of it in the reverse where the Circus as a feeling only exists as we remember it due to this song.
circus afro, circus afro, polka dot polka dot polka dot afro
Its still the greatest burn of history to turn the Austro-Hungarian military march into THE circus music
The fact this was written for the Austro-Hungarian military originally gives this marching number an extra layer of irony.
it goes incediibly well with those romanians marching suits them with those uniforms styled liike 1850s
Literally humankind soundtrack: - Made as military music - Used in circuses
It's amazing. It fits gladiators, military marches and circus clowns 🤡 in equal measure! 😂
Man context is everything with this song lol
When put in this context, I can kind of see it in an unironic light, the music does sorta give off that vibe of a child in the 1900s looking at the soldiers wearing shiny uniforms on parade day.
Ah yes, Russia in Ukraine
