Even without the clown association, the song is still extremely happy and cheerful. It's how it became the clown song in the first place.

There is always something funny about big military parades, especially when the soldiers come out in antique finery like in Britain. It's super camp. You could stick them in the centre of a Pride Carnival Parade and they'd fit right in.

The narrator and soloists actually make or break this piece. In comparison, the chorus and orchestra usually can easily cope with the material and rarely cause any problems. I like this narrator.
