@@SekiBegins Dr Pepper only thanks :P
Thanks Seki. I must ask “Why”And ask “How?” This is what I’m going through with watching videos about using markers and digital art. Does my head in when I see a tutorial. Try it. Look at my attempt before it is finished and I’m like: 😵💫😭😑🤬💀
It's really hard for a beginner to understand people when they say to "learn the fundamentals" because no one can seem to agree on what the fundamentals are. I've seen well known artists create courses that start with you doing gesture, and then I've looked into other courses that start with simple things like learning to draw a straight line confidently (which feels like the actual first step). I wish the art community was a bit more agreeable on where beginners should start, because I'll say just getting started is a nightmare. It's as if I'm standing at a cross road with thousands of paths, and I need to commit to one path for the next 2 years not knowing if it's even a good path to take.
The thing that makes it so divided between people is that "fundamentals" covers such a HUGE amount of things, and every artist will tell you their personal "top fundamental" to learn first, also some people skip stuff like drawing confident lines etc. thinking that people are already doing that when taking courses. All in all i think the best way to tackle it is to spread out your learning to multiple fundamentals and always take 1 to 2 weeks for each, that way your art is gonna grow in all sorts of ways, even if its probably not the fastest way to get to a real master level, i think its the fastest way to get good enought to be satisfied with what you do. ( except you re like me and you re never satisfied with basically anything )
@@SekiBegins I'm starting with Drawabox, but I've been looking into finding something to supplement it with that focuses on digital art. Because I can already tell it's different. I can draw much more confidently on paper with a pen than on my Huion. I find increasing the stabilizer helps, but that kinda feels like cheating idk.
As someone who has been trying to get into drawing for years I have come to the conclusion that no one seems to know how to teach beginners. Every course and book I have come across wants to skip right into shading and anatomy. You are expected to already know how to do line art and sketches. It's insane!! Everyone always tells you to start out with basic shapes, but never explain how you apply those shapes to make drawings. You are expected to figure out that sorcery by yourself.
@@Play-On7 I've been going through the lessons on Drawabox. It starts out with the raw fundamentals of being able to just draw a straight line. It's been pretty good so far. Might be worth looking into yourself.
Can this art course also be of help for traditional new artists as well? So, I'm not exactly starting at 0 since i use to draw hideous pieces back in art class in HS (i just have absouletly no structure, practice,or full basic knowledge of art theory) I'm now 27 but all i've seen from reviewers is this is worth the value, but what if i decide to follow along with pencil/pen until i feel satisfied in my sketches to where i'm able to buy the desired tablet/ipad to return to complete the digital terms. How many terms do you think can i complete/grasp in before investing in one? or would it be wiser to just start drawing digitally without paper knowledge/EXP.
I think the Name says it all, the program that marc made is made with digital media in mind, the theoretical aspect of it is the same in digital and traditional there is nothing really changing there, like color theory / design, perspective etc. all stay the same thing. I think you can complete most of it on paper as well, it ll just take some more time and maybe a few extra steps since in digital there are quick shortcuts that you can use to color a painting for example. My opinion is that if you want to end up at doing digital art, then start with that, if you want to draw traditionally, with oils etc. in the future, then i think starting traditional and staying on that path will be the wiser choice. The art program itself will surely help you out no matter what media you choose, for traditinal stuff i can recommend Proko on youtube, they have a lot of good resources and if you feel you want more i think they offer smaller courses etc. as well ( i think these courses are in traditional media). hope that helps and good luck on your journey : )
Active learning video now please 😅
Seems like now i HAVE to do it : ) might be a few days tho till its done.
The rules in learning to draw is: 1. Draw a lot 2. Draw a lot
i think with drawing a lot you can get to a decent level of drawing proficiency, something like the 80/20 rule, Drawing a lot is just part of the whole thing, but if you really wanna get gud then that shouldnt be bothersome : )
If that worked, Chris-Chan would've become an art god by now.
chris chan is an art god, we re all just to simple minded to understand his greatness.
I don't have problem whit fact my problem is every second I am not drawing I am thinking that I am losing a shot of geting good, I fell every second of free time needs to be spened on drawing. for fun fact it is not good news that I was already almost put in the mental asylum. good day to you
i get where you are coming from, but that seems a little over the top. hope you re not writing this from the rubber room
@@SekiBegins almost got there luckely I did't end up there just got some pilss and 3 week curently on sick leve from work
sounds like a lot of free time ( for drawing >:D )
@@SekiBegins yes and no, the pills somtimes make me litle dizzy but I did spent few days only drawing (I fellt werry motivated)
I'm so bad at drawing realistically, dude
that makes two of us, but i think the best way to improve ( at least thats what im doing now) is to just procrastinate until you have to do it like i had to for this video, and then just never think about it again.

What digital art software do you use?

I am subscribed now >:)
i ll wait until we hit 1001 then >:D
Out of topic, I love the style you made this art with all the squares, I've never seen it before, does it have a name?
i dont know, maybe something like Cubism ( its not exactly the thing but proabably somewhat close to it). Worst case you gotta start your own Art movement and make it a real kind of artstyle yourself : )
Meh. It's going to be the same as the birth of photoshop or toonboom. Soon someone is going to release an ai art toolkit with fully licensed art. It's going to start off shitty and artists will continue to pitch a fit about how soulless it is and how "real" artists don't need it. Within 5 years it'll have developed enough to match human output and the majority of artists will practically have had to learn it, and by 10 years in it'll be no different from now with most artists working digitally with pens and paintbrushes designed by others and a thousand and one filters they didn't create, and the actual skill will still be in using the tool to develop something unique that matches their vision. Hand 'drawn' photoshop work will be the stuff of storyboarding and concept art, much like 2d hand drawn art is now.
Could be, the part where ai gets to become a tool and so on, I 100% agree, just like blender and what not all.
Using AI to simplify a process or make certain things easier is the main goal of its usage. it can never replace a person who interprets and develops themselves and their own skills through time and practice. Generative AI works like a mirror, it reflects what it was told to using what is available on the mirror. It cannot think outside of the box or create new things. I find the process of growing as an artist more effective than relying on a tool that cant.
well said! i think it will eventually cut down some artist jobs in the great industry, but lets be honest, these jobs are more office drone than creative ones
As an artist this makes me laugh evilly 😈
*sets out to generate trashy AI stuff, just to the next generation gets worse and worse >:D

Clip studio paint is really good. I use it on ipad
There is an IPAD VERSION?!- i thought there was only procreate and photoshop for Ipad ( which nobody wants to talk about because its just its own worst enemy)

🤓👆 AI can actually use those bad AI pictures as examples of things it shouldn't do. That's one of the (several) reasons why models that were released this year stopped getting things like hands wrong despite being trained on around the same amount of data. it'll take quite a while before we can make an AI that has learned from as many sources/references as an actual human being with years of life experience though, so I don't think things will change that much despite the overall "quality" of the models improving. Anyway, good luck on getting 1k subs! And thanks for the headphone warning.
damn had no idea that AI can do that, but it makes sense. Although the hands and stuff improve with the current models, I can see that they churn out more and more of the same pictures over and over, and to get them to do different things you really need to specify everything you want i assume. And no prob, always happy do warn headphone users like myself.
It still seems like a monkey's paw sort of thing. By telling it "don't do things like this", it will undoubtedly catch with it a bit of visual information that still works perfectly fine, in the long run, getting another thing wrong. While we will certainly keep seeing improvements, it's not unreasonable to assume there's a limit to how good this can get
It's like generation loss.
i love the piece you did. makes me want to play around and experiment more
Thank you for the headphone warning!

7:31 but I am the greatest artist in the history of mankind
sad truth is most artists never get past the initial stage of dunning kruger, even after years. I see it all the time in art discords, etc. a lot of people avoid perspective/form practice like the plague, don't bother to research into what appealing aesthetics/styles are, never formulate their own opinions, and do the same mistakes over and over instead of addressing their problem areas. Heck, most would be hard-pressed to even learn how to draw symmetrical looking eyes in perspective. Let's not even mention how butt-hurt people get if you try to help them with critique. It's 'my style' bro
Wonders how this guy actually takes a critique ......
that's why we can't give up, cuz at the end of the day of we give up we'll be no different from all these people. Some say that being overly judgemental on your art is bad but I've only seen upsides so far
One of my favorites is Mystichromatic they just hit 1k, super comfy channel and vids.
was really hoping you'd tell everyone to LIGHT and subscribe Heh Heh..... get it?
If there will be a part 2, i absolutely will xD
Your conclusions are solid, however the data used to support them is uninformed, slightly.
I can confirm. I was pretty good at drawing from childhood on but i only got good through interest in the topic and learning. Ive recently started to practice because i saw that some people my age that were behind a few years ago are now better than me, which made me notice how important improving your skills is.
Good to hear, often times those who are superior at drawing from the get go struggle to keep improving oce they hit a certain skill level. I hope you ll continue to improve your art skills more and more!
When i was in my uni years, the 1st semester I was put with Graphic design students in my dorm room. One room has 3 to 4 people and I saw what they do for their 1st semester of assignments. Sketchbooks full of lines, Circles to spheres, etc. They tell me that is for line confident before they get into real thing. My point is art is mentally exhausting. At times, it can be boring and you get mentally exhausting pretty quickly. Knowing that, I still learn how to draw so that I can draw my character someday when i feel enough improvement. Thanks for the advice! although some of them are quite hurt to hear but it is the truth. p/s : I'm not one of the graphic design students. I just pick drawing right before covid ends and still do it to these days. 30 min to 1hr at least at specific topic. Currently focusing on anatomy
Thats nice to hear. Yes, drawing is a very challenging thing to get better at, since deliberate practice doesnt result in immediate improvement likr in other things. But learning things like anatomy, perspective etc. Is a good way of leveling up your art skills by just knowledge alone, without having to fill an entire sketchbook. Hope you ll continue on your art journey.
great intro dude. 😁👌
thanks, took me long enough xD
I wont talk about my "bad habits" 😅 but a good habit to help me draw almost every night after my 9-5 non-art job, cooking dinner, getting kids ready for bed - is do 3-5 min light cardio or stretches. then I pick up drawing pad, pen or marker or turn on my display screen and draw. some nights I like what I draw and other nights I'm like meh but at least I drew and tried to keep it objective. no matter how it looks, I just try to make time to learn or inspire myself to draw because a playlist I have on is visually painting a mad picture in my head. I noticed that I rarely touch my phone in the time I spend drawing. I want drawing regularly to be a fun and creative habit.
thats how it should be, Drawing for the sake of drawing, not to impress anyone or get some random internet points or whatever. Just sit down and get some relaxed pen to paper action going. extra points for keeping it objective ( sometimes i could just trash everything i did in a day cuz i dont like it when im done) but having constant ups and downs in your art progress and making is just normal, we re not machines after all : )
Invormative, my habits are all bad though. I will try to do this trick 🥲
Watching Supernatural is NOT a bad habit >:(
Yes and we can quit watching Supernatural *whenever we want to.*
hmmmmm... sounds like something an addict would say
Hey, do you use a display tablet?
True that. Also I really believe you have to put in the consistent work. If you can it's better to draw 2-3h/day 6x straight than doing 10h one day, then 1h the next, then falling out and not drawing for a week :(
Three months late to this comment but you’re not wrong. I try to get two hours in a night which is tough when you’re working full time, but I want to make my own comics so badly. It’s what drives me.

Ah! Is that your Mer-May in progress? I go through minimum 6-10 sketches before I even set on a final sketch to do line art on. 😵💫Even in traditional art it can be quite the chore and I find it is mostly because when drawing from references… I’m not properly observing the subject!! I’ll get there one day 😅
Yes, its my second attempt since i wasnt really satisfied with the first one, but eh sometimes we have bad days. And same, i also tend to sketch multiple things before linedrawing, but mostly since i try to get a nice composition or specific shape language.
I don't watch all of the ones you mentioned, but I knew all 4 of them, so I'll add a few I'd really recommend, all below 50k (some below 1k) followers Srish Creates - Digital drawing tips while showcasing personal fantasy art six.studios - Heavily stylized portrait drawaing, both traditional and digital + some personal stories Pitch Canker - Digital horror art. Tips, broad topics, videos about individual pieces. TW: Has a lot of unsettling images Onomatopeah - Personal projects + art history videos focused really heavily on politics. One ongoing project on the channel is a documentary series about Picasso and how awful he actually was. Janelle Knight - Character design videos + other concept art or illustration topics. GabyT - Mainly a furry artist who makes a lot of feedback videos. I learned a lot of animal related tips, humanoid anatomy, tips about complex lighting.
