No Monarchs this year but royalty visited. This is a Queen butterfly. Pictures were taken with my phone and unfortunately the video portion was a little out of focus. Hey! I was dealing with an alley cat at my feet and birds taking off over my head. I'm just happy I was there to watch the caterpillar become a cocoon. Not something I see everyday.

I have seen these before in a documentary about ground tremors, they were largely responsible for seismic tremors had in areas exactly as you describe! there was a town that was being overrun by them & even killed some of the townsfolk there! I ALWAYS remain of pavement surfaces now after seeing that documentary.
