The infamous “Civil Rights Speech” was delivered quite eloquently on June, 11, 1963 by President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
The President was well aware of the injustice and inequality People of African descent were faced with at that time. President Kennedy felt the need to utilize his position and his voice to speak up for what was morally right. At that time, among many other issues he addressed was the integration of African American students at the University of Alabama. Back then, that was his way to say “Black Lives Matter”.
Based on his speech and delivery, it is evident that he was in close communication with global and local civil rights activists, whom he both admired, and respected such as: “The Lion of Judah” The Honorable Haile Selassie I, who was quite vocal globally when it came down issues on human rights and equality. The public interactions between the two leaders have been well documented, as well as his meetings with Reverend Martin Luther King and Senator John Lewis. Apparently, communication can lead to a better understanding . It is through communication that human beings can break down walls and barriers, giving way to positive exchange of ideas, that more often than not, becomes beneficial. On another note but equally important, although President John F. Kennedy was born in 1917, there was a strong possibility that as a boy, he might have heard about Honorable Marcus M Garvey, who played a major role in uplifting and instilling valor in the ears, hearts, and minds of those who were oppressed and the downtrodden.
It is undeniable that progress has been made in some respects, yet there is so much more to more that needs to be done ✅ Use your voice for a positive change. Be a part of the solution regardless of your race, which is irrelevant as we all belong to the human race.
