Hi all and welcome back to the channel, on this one i am using the @mdlpowerup1 Megga split hydraulic log splitter. Its a good machine but i just don't like the speed of this machine over my kinetic splitter. Even with the 6 way wedge, its not that well designed for the UK market for the size of wood it splits. I had the six way wedge blow off on mine so I modified it. I drilled a third hole on the two way splitter wedge ,tapped it with a twelve mm tap. I then took a pice of 100mm steel plate, welded on two dowls and drilled a hole for a counter sunk bolt .This did secure the six way and four way splitters but the wood tended to jam under the bottom " wings" on the six way splitter. I cut these off and rewelded them facing up with the angle side facing up. This modification sorted out all the problems.

      Hi Harry, if i had a log deck for this machine then i would say it would do 9 or 10 loose filled cages so i guess 9m3. For the machine compared to say Posch or Tajfun or very similar, it is a slow machine. If i would buy again, i wouldnt buy this machine again. Id keep my eyes peeled in the 2nd hand market. Definitely just mix the alder in, all my hardwood is mixed loads, except for oak, keep it separate for a better price. I know different local markets, but in Northern Ireland you would pay £110 to £140 for a bulk bag of kiln dried hardwood. Seasoned hardwood £80 to £100.

    • @everydaywithmenick
      @everydaywithmenick 15 днів тому

      Yes i ended up mixing the Alder in with the Ash wood, its a lot lighter wood in comparison but a hardwood none the less. Its funny, i never ever seem to get a premium price for Oak firewood. Well my prices are the rock bottom prices for kiln dried hardwood at £90 for a dumpy bag. Seasoned hardwood is £70 a bulk bag. Thanks for sharing your side of the water on this one.

    • @everydaywithmenick
      @everydaywithmenick 15 днів тому

      Hi and thank you for commenting. All the info is in the video but im afraid the prices on this process will have vastly changed since this purchase. I would imagine the cost of freight will have gone up and also port fees will have increased too. Having it imported was easy once i was appointed a shipping agent, they did all the paper work, i just had to pay the fees associated with it all. VAT will always depend on the purchase price of course. Sorry ive not been much help on this one.

    Good morning Nick. Thanks for the shout out. Once you get a kinetic you didn't ever want to touch those hydraulics again. I have a pair of those tongs but made by Fisker. I'm always finding the log that doesn't fit. I'm sure if they were bigger I'd still keep finding the log that was too big lol. You've been busy buddy. Good work

    • @everydaywithmenick
      @everydaywithmenick 21 день тому

      Hey Jerry 👋 not a problem on the shoutout, you know us Frontier and kinetic owners stick together 😆 I just wish the kinetic splitter was working at full capacity and not having this dreaded judder motion, it is hindering the operation of the machine. Ill have to have a look at the Fiskar tongs, i didnt realise they made any tongs. I think the problem is some rounds are larger than the tongs can handle but for me, i only cut at 9" so i can handle them that way. I have handled 3 foot diameter rounds just by the width i have cut them at not by diameter of the log. Thank you as always buddy, take care 👍

      @everydaywithmenick 21 день тому

      Hey and thank you for commenting. That is interesting to read your input. The clutch unit i have put in only 2 years ago has failed with this judder so i cant imagine the bearings on the unit will have failed so soon. I have a theory that the rack is riding too high and causing the judder, this is only theory of course and i will have to try it to see if that is the reason. Thank you for your insight and comment 👍

      I love my Jansen kinetic splitter too, just id like it to be running 100% all the time every time. Its a real shame about the clutch unit being so unreliable and prone to failure. I have tried what yours is doing and to no joy with mine. Yes i know the guy who imports them, hes called Ian and hes a lovely chap, i wonder if he could add a shipment into his container when he was coming over. Id have to see what price they are first of all. I also like the look of EastonMade splitters too. Maybe one day.

    Nice split session. Sorry to hear about you Dad. Condolences offered to all his family and friends. A little wood splitting therapy is as good as you can get. I'm sure you made him proud and rightfully so. Peace my friend.

      Thank you Jerry, i thank you for your kind words and the rest of the family would be grateful. Yes a good splitting session is well needed, even if i have been splitting an awful lot recently. I hope he thought that, he was a private man but if you knew you knew. Thank you again Jerry.

    So sorry to hear that Nick, I’ve been through that with both of my parents. He will live on through your memories and you. I’m biased about the splitter, since I have the US version. I’d like to try the 6 way wedge. Thanks for sharing

      Im sorry for your loss too buddy, it isnt great. What are the prices of a 6 way for you ? have you thought about or increased they speed of your machine or is it fine for your application ? Thank you again buddy.

    • @AppalachianFarmstead
      @AppalachianFarmstead 26 днів тому

      @ I think they are $150 ish. That’s above my pay grade to try and increase the speed. I’m only doing firewood for myself so the speed is good. I mean considering I use to split with a Tractor Supply splitter the Rugged Made is flying compared to that.

      @@AppalachianFarmstead I thought theyd be about the same price as what they are over here. It would be interesting to get some feedback on how the 6 way is for you and how you split your wood. Yes i can imagine the difference is night and day difference. Yes if i wasnt selling firewood it would be fine.

      @ I plan on doing some firewood videos. I split so much a year ago that I didn’t have to split this past year. Plus the last 2 winters have been mild, not this year it’s 🥶❄️. Plus I plan on expanding our maple syrup production this year.
