Re-Installing the OEM aux heater Eberspacher D3W/D4W back to VW T4
Re-installing the auxiliary engine & cabin heater back to my VW T4. Should be helpful regarding both removal and install, or maybe even as some guidance for retrofitting the heater, although all the hoses are a maze and kudos to everyone who undertakes this. Luckily this was an OEM option in my van. :D
Couple of notes:
- If you are looking JUST to remove the heater unit itself, you can follow the steps backwards up to a 2:22.
- I replaced original rubber bushings (7L0819083) with a part 191201256 - they seem pretty similar and are 10 times cheaper. But should you decide to use them as well, do at your own risk. I have no idea if they will last, but saving $50 on four tiny parts is pretty significant. :D
- I am missing one piece of the assembly that I am yet to find (701815075) that clamps the heater in the holder. However I've looked at many junk yard listings and it is missing in a lot of them, too. So large hose clamp it is.
- At 3m14s the proper orientation of the plug can be seen, I have it wrong in the video.

DIY Eberspacher D4WS (VW T4) Heater Diagnostics with KKL OBD2 Cable
Переглядів 229Місяць тому
For my VW T4 I got a replacement Eberspacher D4WS from a junkyard (the old one was so corroded I failed to even take it apart); and I wanted to check if there are not some fault codes on its ECU, this is how I did it. I used regular cheap KKL cable from AliExpress with RT232RL chip (CH430 might work also but doesn't allow to set low latency) and free VCDS Lite did the trick. (The errors shown a...

So after a quick spray with brake clea...
VW T4/Eurovan tailgate trim - where do the tabs go?
Переглядів 459 місяців тому
There are four tabs glued to the inside of the tailgate trim on the VW T4s (Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan, Eurovan). I always forget where do they go (I glued them back like 4 times already) so once and forever I recorded it for myself. Two "J" marked tabs - these are thinner and go to the two spots in the middle. The other two "K" marked tabs are thicker and go to the outside. That's all. :...

1.6 MPI - idle sound and shaking (145k km engine)

Just as a response to some earlier comments on another video, I recorded the 1.6 MPI after startup in the morning (12 C outside). Although at operating temperature the shaking is more or less the same. Engine has 145k km, 5k since ignition overhaul (new spark plugs, coil and wires). Will it work with normal obd cable or it necessary to use the kkl one? I want to diagnose hydronic d5z in toyota auris 2008
I'd assume newer cables (that support CAN) will be backwards compatible to also support communication on K-Line, but I am not really sure.
@carsandtools I'm asking cuz you showed the wiring diagram and I noticed that the pinout on kkl is different to the obd socket... But the pin function looks the same... I will try it with obd... And vcds.
@@damer950 Different how? They are just two views, one from the socket-side, the other from the plug side.
@@carsandtools😂 sorry didn't realised that.. I thought they are both plugs
So I tried to connect it via China Ross tech cable hex V2... Got the green light but I didn't manage to connect to the vcds com interface, just usb...wasnt able to change ports in PC... The edith soft wanted firstly to apply some type of connection auto or ISO idk so no success there too...tried to switch pin5 for pin7 due to different colors but that didn't worked.. But after connecting + from temperature sensor wire the blower initial blow starts but the starting sequence ended... It's the sign that the control module is working and some other components are faulty?

at the end of assebly line they install shaking for free. 650 rpm idle does not help 😟
Any tips on how to get more hp from the BGU engine?
As far as I know, there is no easy way to get any meaningful power increase from this engine.

Great video , thank you so much 👍👍
Hey. Did you just join inlet and outlet together after removing the heater or did you remove other hoses and aux pump too? Will be removing the heater this weekend :)
Yes I just joined them together, it can be seen at 1:40. :)
@@carsandtools I was more focused on removal of diesel hose XD I see it now at 1:40 with inline piece. Thanks. Cheers!
@@BAK87 Yeah that one I ended up just hard pulling off. :D You're welcome. I don't know what size the inline piece is, but probably 3/4". The outer diameter is 20 mm (22 mm at the rim) on the heater side.
I really dont know why you use 3 electrodes NGK France is bad Japan is middle. it can be better one electrode TT denso for higher spark energy. And not orginal coil you not check whats wrong with old and how works that new.
Sorry I am having trouble understanding, but what do you mean? I didn't use 3-electrode spark plugs, and the old coils and module had corroded connectors - what do you mean I didn't check? I did and I've even shown it in the video.
Felicitări. Ești super bun. Poți sa mi zici la eroarea P1348 ce sa schimb, te rog!?
Sorry I have no idea. Google says it's related to camshaft sensor, so either bad sensor or bad timing setting?
Big like ..
Hi, I hope for your answer, I have the same engine on a golf 6, it often turns off at idle, sometimes the EPC light comes on and it goes into protection, accelerates little and every now and then it has some shortcomings, you think Could this be? The coil seems new I bought the car recently, can wires and spark plugs cause this problem? Thank you very much for your reply
Hi, sorry I am not sure as I am not a mechanic but shutting of at idle or limp mode sounds like it could be caused by variety of reasons. I would probably start by reading fault codes (bluetooth scanners are like 10E and there are free apps) and looked for hints from there.
I would like to thank the Author for the wonderful film. May the Creator reward the author with subscribers and likes. Nothing to add, nothing to remove, just move my ass to work. No more excuses left on the table! Thank you, thank you, and thank you again!
Nice video, where are you from bro ?
8:06 The highlighted text says Elring 655.790 which is throttle sealant while on the package you hold in the hand is written Elring 475.931. So shall I buy 475.931? Anyway, you made a great tutorial! Thank you!
Yeah that's a mistake from me, good catch. The green seals on video that are 4pcs for the bottom part of air intake are indeed Elring 475.931 (or OEM number 06A133398). I also had Elring 655.790 on the same order so they got mixed up.
hi i have this kind but, it make ticking sound when indling
Great video. I have an '09 Jetta with the same engine that stumbles at idle and low RPM load when it's hot (seems to idle smoothly when it's cold). Its not enough to smoke or throw a CEL, but it's just an annoyance whdn idling at a light and it does burn (or leak) quite a bit of oil. Just haven't decided if I want to trar into it like this, I've never had a car that requires removal of intake manifold to change the plugs.
For just the spark plugs, the removal is not needed. I've done it once. It's possible but quite a pain especially for the two middle spark plugs. But definitely doable.

What torque is Newton in European number, so should the sockets be size 6 and bolt size 13 again when turning back? I have a Bse engine golf variant 2008 Thanks
I am not sure, I tightened most of them by hand, because they were all over the workshop manual and even now sitting at the computer I am unable to quickly find them.
does the egr rubber hose suck air when idling?
How can that little cooling out of the waterpump ???? Its 8 liter inside the engine ?
yes 7-8 liters but just pulling the water pump wont drain it all. i've put back around 1.5l
Excellent video!!
Nice video thank you bro 💪👍
@7:14 what exactly are you doing there?
Letting air out of the fuel line. I think. I don't know, to be honest, I just saw air valve at the end of the fuel rail so I assumed that's what it for. 😅
FINALLY IVE BEEN SAT HERE FOR 10 MINUTES TRYING TO FIND ONE THAT MATCHED THIS CUSTOMERS CAR!! THANK YOU
Im confused shall i replace mine too, its 21 years old, i got the same engine. But i feel somewhere a heavy performance loss, especially in first gear. I replaced the spark plugs before with ik20tt.
Nice short video that covers every aspect of the job, good work...
Thank you for a very good workflow. What difference do you think is between Denso IK20TT and K20TT (power, stamina)? and why did you not ordered the original ignition module? It is commonly available..
I think the "I" ones are Iridium and many people have reported they lasted them significantly longer than regular plugs, but I have not had such luck as seen at 8:32... I've got them again, though, because without taking the air intake off its such a painful job and I don't want to do spark plugs again for as long as possible. Whether that was smart or not... well, I guess it doesn't really matter now. :D As far as the OEM ignition module, nice catch - I did not really notice it was also still available. :D But the Hitachi is also a good one. I tried to buy all the parts from renowned aftermarket brands. If I went for the cheapest everything, it would be a lot cheaper, too. But I intend to drive the car to the dust, so... :D
Witch way do you turn the bolt to remove it? Is it left hand threads or right hand threads?
Not sure which bolt you mean and I don't really remember anymore, but I think they were all standard bolts.

I have the same engine on a 2005 VW Golf MK5. Engine code BGU. Same issue. At startup it brings the revs to 1000-1100 rpm and holds it like that fo 3-4 minutes and then goes back to around 650. When it reaches operating temperatures it runs great. What can it be? It is always like that.
MEGA videjko bráško!!!
My Octavia 2 has the same issue. Though, much more aggressively than this! It’s so bad, that I can feel it shaking when standing at the stop light. I was at multiple mechanics and they all told me the same: it’s an 8 valve engine which just does this. And you don’t feel it in the beginning, because the motor mounts are all good. After time they wear out, especially when the engine does this! So either, change the motor mounts or live with it. For a couple of years I have lived with it now, but after almost 270.000km it’s really bad. So I have replaced the mount in the subframe. It’s a round rubber bushing which has to be pressed out with a special tool. It’s quite expensive (400€ in Germany) but it works quite nicely. The rubber bushing is just 20 bucks or so. This helped quite a lot!! Now my other motor mounts are still very bad, so the issue is not completely gone. But it feels much better. My recommendation: if yours is shaking, you feel it in the seat and it bothers you - change the motor mounts. If not all of these apply, leave it as is 🤷♂️ If you don’t want to buy the tool to press out the bushing, there are some places to rent the tool from. If you live in Germany, just text me and you can borough mine 👍
I have an update on this... All of my motor mounts are now replaced and the driving is much improved. Though, not everything about the shaking is fine now. You can see it, especially on the secondary air pump. This seems to be moving even more now, as the engine is held tighter. Drivability wise, definetly a recomendation, but if you are looking forward to getting this shaking away, I guess you have to live with it :/

Wrong timing? Did you change belt tensioner(s)? Alternator belt+tensioner installed in original directions? Could be all kinds of things.
After hours of looking of the problem, I find the cause It was the new alternator belt .It had a rubber point on the back from factory ,and that make that sound. I replace it and it work fine now @@carsandtools

Mine was shaking a little bit, and had some misfires (I used a tester and it said that, no error codes) (102k km). Took it to the mechanic and found compression lost in cylinder number 2 and a bit of residue in the intake manifold. Got the engine disassembled and the cylinder head milled 0.10. After this it was better. It still shakes a little, but I believe it just does this.
I have the same engine and this video helped me so much to do some maintenance with the detailed information about the parts and tools needed. I would love to see more work on this engine so maybe i could do it too on mine :D
I also have this engine and "problem". I shall tell you if I get it worked out. Planning to change all seals from the intake manifold.
Hello, i am thinking of doing the same thing, but i don't know is it worth it or not. Did you change the seals from the intake manifold and did it help solving the problem with the shaking?
I am still waiting for the right time. Seems kind of a big job after work and all. Maybe this fall because I'm pretty sure I need to change spark plugs and that needs removing the intake manifold. It's easier that way.
