A very different neighborhood. Gimpo Airport is nearby? It must have seen better days, yet, the airport market showed hidden life. Those left behind probably don't want to move, and I don't blame them. Look at the apartment high rises that surround the old neighborhood. The cat wants to stay too, so the mini white dog who greeted you, trusting and sweet. Maybe the one big partial graffiti I saw tells the story of the downfall. It's like the modern version of archaic cave drawings. so also the left behind household items and furniture; again becoming refugees. The store where traditional Korean dresses are left behind like leaving memory intact. I always sense this affinity to The Little Prince and the (his) rose in certain enclaves in S Korea. Thanks and stay cool.

Thanks! I know which places to avoid ; ) But, the piece de resistance will always be indoor and outdoor markets for me. What a bubbly place to study people interact or also not. In constant search for that one morsel of food or item that will make them content, even happy. Temps are rising in Seoul and probably muggy too? Take good care of yourself.

Saw unusually many graffiti, especially in the cafe alley today. Mostly autographs, though. Others on the walk, mostly linear black, were coded and more interesting to me. I finally got to see some street sweepers on Hongdoe Str and the team that keeps the hedges manicured in the Mangwon Park. It's great that Seoul has these 'green lungs' for the residents. I was saddened by the carelessness of how some art work was left dangling in the exhibition cases on Hongdoe Str. I think the theme of the works is ROC and the veterans who kept, and keep, the republic safe. Maybe for the upcoming national holiday in late July? And the World Cup food market hall today! Like a train station! Must be shopping for the weekend? I saw a kimchi stand with lots of varieties, at least 15+. The toms at 3,62 USD (per pound?) is reasonable. Deep-fried shrimps at 7.24 USD, depending on quantity, is also reasonably priced. Above all, to see the liveliness in the aisles of the market is just wonderful to see, even from afar. I missed pigeons today. They usually cross your path. Heartbreaking when you meander through the neighborhood streets and alleys that are folded or soon will be. History is lost of all those residents who once were refugees from the Korean War, and later, from the rural areas coming for work in the city. They built and made their 'homes' in these neighborhoods, while at the same time built the modern economy of South Korea. The city probably sees these neighborhoods as hazardous, unsanitary, unrepairable and too costly to modernize, which is probably true. Just think how a fire truck or ambulance finds its way in an emergency. I can't help but see all those fire extinguishers! On a lighter note, I was thinking about the mail carrier and his/her delivery job in those old neighborhoods. He/she must have a photographic memory to do this job! Thanks, take care.

What a herculean feat today at 30 C temp, probably higher with the humidity, and walking over two hours straight! I admire your stamina and thanks for letting us go along on the discovery tour of some streets and neighborhoods of Seoul. My snapshots today: The two guys singing on the sidewalk like Simon & Garfunkel (?); the little stinker of a kid, who did the Kung Fu like leg move towards a girl, who probably had told him to sit down on the other side of the see-saw, and an exquisite graffiti on a metal post that caught my fancy while you walked through today's food alley. ; )

Through your camera I had a lot of fun watching different and amazing areas❤ I long to get there one day and walk through these paths personally thank you for sharing ❤️👏

A great walk in a super city! I love Seoul!

If I had been walking with you, we would have walked for four hours! Not because I'm a snail compared to your pace, but, I would have wanted to see things up-close and asked you many questions. I think you took us into an older, more working class neighborhood today. One doesn't need much imagination what the future will be. In a decade or so, these neighborhoods will be gone. There got to be a photographer/artist who would want to capture these cultural timepieces of shops, markets, houses and people's faces, before they are gone. I love those huge earthenware pots and lids in their beautiful blackish-plum to deepest chocolate brown glaze, They exude such calm and stability to me. Have a great rest of the day, and I hope the temp cools down. : )

How I love flowers, they are very beautiful and the roads are also wonderful and fun to walk on. Greetings to you ❤❤
