If you are a single man and don't yet speak English... Perth is not going to be the Australian adventure... Here, foreigners are not as familiar as Sydney and Melbourne... For your own good, don't try it... I spoke with many people from various countries who started with English in Perth and they are not happy... For me, Perth has been the Australian nightmare... Go to the East Coast and then when you have English, come to Perth, and everything will be easy and nice... maybe we Latinos have a different vision of loneliness.

I believe if you are young and want to move ahead in your career, Perth is really not the ideal place live.

Anyone who lives in Perth will always tell you don't come, its our GEM

All the shops cafe restaurants lifestyle is too expensive.

All life in Perth on Saturdays is at suburban big shopping Centres

My wife and I are national missionaries here in the Philippines and we'll be visiting Perth in the next two weeks for some days of vacation hope to enjoy the place

I am in my Seventies now, but have lived in S A, Victoria, ACT, NSW and Western Australia. Out of all these places WA is definitely my favourite. I have loved the laid back life style over here and would hate to see it become more like Sydney or Melbourne, so for this reason, please, please, please stop telling everyone how great it is or they might all want to come over here. 🥰

Perth was a city where house prices were affordable. But because there is a housing crisis in Australia. Perth is now very expensive for buying property.

Wow this was super informative, i can see why it would be an excellent option, The infrastructure, parks, beaches, modern look to the city looks top notch, I didn’t think how the boom in natural resources and mining would boost the economy like crazy, i mean some of those miners get paid more than doctors lol $5000 per week for a heavy rig mechanic. now would be a smart move before everyone descends on the place. Im in Melbourne but Perth is looking mighty tempting

Perth is cold in winter. Cold for Perth is when the minimum temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit). The are no spiders in Perth that will kill you. The most dangerous is the white-tailed spider, whose bite can leave a skin infection that can take months to heal with medication. The three animals responsible for the most deaths in Australia are Horses, cattle and dogs.

Perth will not overtake Brisbane anytime soon...likely never. Simple East/West coast dynamics! Perth plays a bit of a "switcheroo" with this, where they take their full "greater Perth" population figure, but then tell BNE "no, you can only take your city boundary figures" - like for like, SEQ (which is the greater BNE area) is a cosmos larger than PER ever will be!

Met my wife in 1972 whilst I was in the Royal Australian Air Force, serving at Butterworth Air Base, Malaysia. We were married in 1974, less than two weeks before returning to Australia for my discharge. Luckily we came to Perth in January, so she had time to acclimatise to the Perth winter. Those first couple of years was a period of adjustment for her. Summer was too hot and winter was too cold. In 1977, she returned to Malysia to see her family, who she missed. She was also pregnant with our first child. When she returned she said she was happy to be back "home", because the heat and humidity in Malaysia was unbearable.

I live in a rural town, the local govt( shire) at the beginning of the Covid restrictions rand all of the pensioners and said if they need any help call them. Also free or subsidised public transport and a fuel card for rural pensioners plus a lot of other benefits

The Perth market is so crazy it's unbelievable. Agents pressure people to sign 'offers' on the day, sometimes even at the viewings. Unlike other states, in WA there is no cooling off period like there is in NSW and others. An 'offer' is actually signing the formal contract, which if 'accepted' is then signed by the owner. The contract becomes LEGALLY BINDING at this point and there is no provision to pull out, unless there are conditions included in the contract that allow you to do so (e.g. subject to XYZ and if that is not fulfilled). In every other country and state in Australia, it's normal to make in informal offer, through a solicitor negotiate terms with the owner, and once both parties agree then the contract is signed. This can happen in as little as a couple of days in Australia (unlike months in the UK) but it's so important. Nobody should sign a contract under pressure just because an agent says they have to, is worth letting a property go if the owners can't even wait one or two days to engage with solicitors.

Wait until you experience the mining cycle when it’s down. The boom of the 2000s was the final nail in the coffin for many to ever be home owners. Sure Perth has money but it sits on a constant precipice of hope that the next mining downturn is not prolonged. All signs are the next one will be long and possibly never bounce back the likes we’ve seen. Sure it’s shiny and blingy but so are the people these days. The new money has removed the small town community feel that Perth not so long ago had.

We are currently planning also for buying a land in Perth but its a bit hard to find real state company for us to explore more options and places. Would u mind sharing what is the best real state company for lands?

Perth is HOT.. and getting hotter each year with climate change. If you can’t afford air conditioning you will be miserable here. Depends on your house. My rental house has no insulation so gets phenomenally hot in summer. It has no aircon either. You can’t swim safely in the peak of summer due to sun cancer risks. Have to do that early morning or towards sunset.

I would NOT roam the city area at night. Lots of homeless people. Increasing chance of getting mugged or hassled. Northbridge is safer. That’s near Perth city, on the other side of the railway station. All the night clubs and restaurants are in Northbridge. Fremantle is nice during the day, but is not safe to roam off the main road at night due to homeless etc.

Very hard to rent or buy here now. $$$$ I was born here, won’t ever own my own house.. too expensive now

Generally a fair review I think. As an east coaster I like Perth but it’s quiet and suburban. Don’t go there for buzz. But I think it is lovely for the park and the beaches.
