Exploring out of the way places that are not often visited. I am currently in the American Southwest, but hope to expand in time. Abandoned mines, ghost towns, highways, and railroads are all possible subjects.
Abandoned Rice to Ripley California Railroad
I explored an abandoned railroad from Ripley California north to Rice California. The railroad was built around 1916 and was abandoned and pulled up by 2011.
One half of the railroad ran through the fertile Palo Verde Valley farmland, while the other half ran through the hot, dry dusty desert.
Ripley is a small town on the line, and Blythe is a bigger city along the line that is also fortunate to be along the interstate highway. Other place names along the line include Mesaville, Inca, Cox, Midland, and Styx; in total have a population of zero. This abandoned line meets up with an active line at Rice, another place name with a population of less than one.
There are lot of artifacts along the line, including discarded railroad ties, spikes, and other assorted hardware. There are also utility poles, may of which still have wire hanging off them. There are countless bridges and culverts to cross over all the washes and drainage from the high mountainous area.

Canyon Hike to Miner's Camp
Переглядів 7 тис.21 день тому
In Death Valley National Park, south of Furnace Creek, there is an old canyon road that leads to a deserted miner's camp. A 2 1/2 mile drive up a rough dirt road leads to a small parking area, and from here it is an additional 2 mile hike up the old road through the canyon to the camp. It's a nice walk up the canyon, with a lot of fascinating rock formations. In some spots the road is easy to s...
Downhill Hike to Abandoned Mine
Переглядів 1 тис.Місяць тому
High above Death Valley National Park are the Chloride Cliffs and the once bustling mining town of Chloride City, now a ghost town. A couple of days could be spent following all the mountain top roads to their different destinations, all mining related. But I only had one day, and I chose to follow the Chloride Cliff Road down the west side of the mountain to the Big Bell Mine. The mine site is...
Deserted Nevada Marble Quarry and Ghost Town
Переглядів 5 тис.2 місяці тому
A small town was built in the Nevada desert in the early 1900's when marble was discovered in the nearby mountains. The town reached a population of about 150 people, and it had a newspaper, a hotel, and a post office. Water was piped in from a nearby town, and a large fountain was built at the center of town, which became a popular meeting place. The marble was not of the quality expected from...
Joshua Tree National Park Backcountry Canyon Hike
Переглядів 5212 місяці тому
In a remote area of Joshua Tree National Park, there is a canyon hike that leads up and over a pass before eventually descending down to the Coachella Valley. The hike is not too difficult; the portion I hiked was uphill all the way to my destination. The canyon contains many historic relics and sites, mostly from the area's mining past. The main area of interest was once a large water storage ...
Historic Bates Well Ranch
Переглядів 9 тис.3 місяці тому
Historic Bates Well Ranch is a site located within the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument near Ajo Arizona. All the other areas I show are also within the Monument. While 4WD is not required, good clearance is a must. All of the sites are located down unpaved roads, and most of them are many miles from the paved roads. The Gray family ranched in this area for a significant portion of the mid 1...
Desert Cabin Getaway
Переглядів 306 тис.4 місяці тому
A lot of places I find in the desert are ramshackle structures that have seemingly been abandoned for a long time. They are mostly related to small scale mining operations that either played out or never worked out. This place, while perhaps similar, is also very different. The area around the main cabin was once meticulously maintained with desert gardens with rock wall borders. The stonework ...
Abandoned RV Park with Hot Tub and Swimming Pool
Переглядів 4,7 тис.5 місяців тому
I found an abandoned RV Park in the California desert right off the highway. It doesn't appear to have been in operation for too long, and it seems to have been abandoned over 25 years ago. It was probably considered pretty modern while it was open. It had plenty of lots laid out in an organized manner with electric hookups and sewage. The park also had what appeared to be a store / snack bar/ ...
Large Miner's Camp in the Desert
Переглядів 20 тис.6 місяців тому
In this video, we tour a deserted miner's camp off the beaten path. There was not a lot of information online about this place, but it seems to have been abandoned for quite some time. It's not clear when the original camp was abandoned, but It appears to have been used in the 80's or 90's for a short time. There is a lot of junk accumulated from this short occupation. These days it is not visi...
Abandoned Citrus Grove With Old Equipment Left Behind
Переглядів 7 тис.6 місяців тому
I explored an abandoned citrus grove in the California desert. I spotted the shell of an abandoned building on Google Maps, and decided to go check it out. My first impression was that it was some kind of agriculture project, because of the water reservoir remains on the property. But I assumed (wrongly) that it failed before really getting started, mostly because the cinder block building that...
Abandoned Picacho Mining District Prospect along the Colorado River
Переглядів 4,7 тис.7 місяців тому
An abandoned mining prospect sits along the Colorado river approximately 3 1/2 miles east of the Picacho State Recreation Area. The hike in from the old townsite is about a 4 mile walk through washes and up and over ridges. The entire hike is along an old road, which is slowly blending back into the natural landscape of the area. There is plenty of old mining equipment left behind including a c...
Miner's Collapsed Cabin and Mountaintop Mine
Переглядів 1 тис.8 місяців тому
I rode my RZR on the Barry M Goldwater Range in Yuma Arizona to the site of a miner's old collapsed cabin. I walked around the area and found plenty of old artifacts. I then hiked up the steep mountain trail to the top of a ridge of the Gila Mountains with great views of Yuma and the Fortuna Foothills on one side and the Wellton Valley on the other side, and continued on to the mine. Since this...
Two Abandoned Homesteads in Big Bend National Park
Переглядів 9328 місяців тому
I visited two abandoned homesteads in Big Bend National Park. These sites are not in any guidebooks; nor are they on the park map that you can pick up at the visitor's center. The first is a good size stone cabin with lots of windows and a patio. It was a small ranch belonging to a retired Buffalo Soldier of the American Cavalry. It sat abandoned for a while before the National Park Service too...
Exploring an Aircraft Crash Site in the Yuma Arizona Desert
Переглядів 1,1 тис.9 місяців тому
I rode my Polaris RZR XP1000 side-by-side to an aircraft crash site on the Barry M Goldwater Range (BMGR) in the desert southeast of Yuma Arizona. A majority of the unknown aircraft type was removed, and If you didn't know it was there, you may just pass right by it. But when you start looking around, you begin to notice bits and pieces of aluminum, fiberglass, and wiring. And the more you look...

SOME ASS CLOWN PROBABLY SET FIRE TO THE STRUCTURE . LIKE I SAY LOOK AND LEAVE. LEAVE IT SO OTHERS CAN ENJOY WHAT ONCE WAS .IT IS PART OF HISTORY .
Just to the left of center is a black square that appears to be a mine door of some kind... right behind the stone courtyard of the first foundation you looked at. Did you miss it or what? It is visible right from the start and really easily seen @00:16 and @00:33 to @00:40 You should go back and explore that soon. Reply
Good eyes! No, I didn't miss it. It just wasn't that interesting, and I needed to cut some stuff. There were shelves in there with nothing on them, probably just for storage. Thanks for watching!
You did your research. You went there and you brought us there. Thank you. Well done friend
My pleasure, and thank you for the kind words. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Great video. I love the Southwest desert.
Thank you for the nice comment, and thanks for watching!
@ Your photography and interesting content are fantastic!
Wife and I really enjoy your videos. We live in heavily forested rural Michigan, so the desert landscape is a fascinating change of pace. The work you did researching the area's history also sets you apart from others. Just seeing busted up foundations is interesting, but knowing what they were many years ago makes it even better. Thanks.
Thank you for the kind words, and I'm glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!
Very interesting history of a once busy railroad. I always wonder what happened to all the people who lived at those places along the rails. Your photography and narration were very well done.
Thank you for the kind words!
Good video thanks👍
Thank you!
❤❤❤who cut down all of the trees 🌳
❤❤❤if it never rains 🌧 in the desert ❤how does the road get washed out
everything looks so old and deserted outside. I wonder how long it’s been abandoned/forgotten. All that stone work too. The wooden beams look new.
Thanks for watching!
Jesus✝️ is the only way to Heaven 🙏 seek His Salvation Jesus is the only one who died for us mohammed budda didn't die for us only Jesus ask for His forgiveness turn from doing wrong find His amazing peace strength and joy😊
Was it something I said? Thanks for watching!
@justwanderinround4113 Thanks for your videos everyone needs Jesus the old timers knew that .Today there are many distractions like cell phone's to keep people from thinking about God satan is very good at trying to derail us.
SOMEONE HAD A CABIN AND GETAWAY, BUT THEY DIED AND IT BECAME ABANDONED!!!
I THINK SO TOO!! WHY ARE WE YELLING?
Just proves that we get all wound up building and storing, and making a homestead for us to live, but when we're gone we leave it all to the next owners. In this case, the birds now own it. These folks really wanted to be away from everyone . Real sad to see it not be kept up.
It's a real gem for sure. Thanks for watching!
That is quite a hike in, and out. Mining areas in the SW and Colorado are so fascinating to me. It’s amazing how they built what they did in such remote and deserted areas. Seeing the sheep was awesome, and hearing the fighter jets.
Thank you. This is so fascinating. The deserts are so enchanting. It would be so great to know the story. The family put a lot of loving care into their property.
What a wonderful adventure. Thank you for sharing 🌻 🌼 😊
Nice video. Thanks for sharing 👍
A very extended family, a club, a clan or a cult ( not all cults are evil ) put in so much energy and effort - and then..? Does the local paper relate any unexplained missing persons in that timeframe? Hate to say it but my guess would be “coyote trouble”* if the location is anything less than 100 miles from the border… hopefully the truth is much less sinister but my pessimism is, sadly, well-founded. Don’t reveal location if you can help it, to quote Gandalf; “keep it secret- keep it safe! “ thank you for the great video!! 🙏 * not the furry canine mammal with the haunting voice! 😮
The cabin was an RV Pad.
The pink RV looks pretty nice inside! With a bit of work that would be an awesome place to stay or live
Thanks for the tour.
Thank you.
Hermoso video, cuanta historia, cuanta vida transcurrio en ese lugar agreste pero muy bello. Gracias por el video.
Thats a really nice place. I would love to live there.
Одни кактусы большие, зелёные остались... 🌵🌵🌵🌵
Очень интересно!!!
Thanks
Looks like fancy RV parking pad.
I'm so impressed with this tiny village of at least three homes. There was love put into each one. The main house was a real home built with pride and craftsmanship. Perhaps a wife picked out the pretty wallpaper. I kept thinking of the movie The Misfits with that hand built house. Enjoyed this walking trip very much.
Papa Jupe!
Buddy, I know fallout new Vegas when I see it. What mod is this?
Seems like an entire community would have lived here . Not only a single family.
Seems peaceful there, I could spend a lot of time in a place like that.
Someone died and their family has no idea this exists.
Your walking sounds like the first moments in Holiday in The Sun by the Sex Pistols.
Whomever owned the place must have had some help. The time to source, haul, shape, and position all that stone would have taken one man a lifetime.
This gives Fallout vibes. Very cool find to explore!
What an amazing place
This looks like a homestead that has been homestead multiple times, judging from the buildings and mobile home. The first time might have been in the 19th century for all we know. a ranch maybe.

ม้าพยศสีดำ 🐎 ขายถึงสิ้นเดือนนี้...❤🎉
When you live this far out in the middle of no where, I would guess the minute your car breaks down and you no longer can fix it and you find your savings are pretty much gone, and you realize you are miles from civilization. That would be the moment you come to terms you are in deep shit.! Why anyone would want to put themselves in that predicament is beyond me.
Can you IMAGINE,,, The desert SKY there at NIGHT ??? YOU ... IDIOT !
Too bold man
Nice track 😅
Till you could drive no more? Are you driving a prius, it looks pretty driveable in a Tacoma? Very good video, music isn't bad but not necessary.
Why would I be driving a Prius? And why would I drive a Tacoma? People complain when it's just footsteps, now you're complaining about the music to drown out the footsteps....
@justwanderinround4113 you sound like you speak English pretty well, but from your response, it shows that you cannot read, perhaps you might think about not allowing comments if you can't read and comprehend.
It looks like Namibia landscape
I havent been here in 12+ years, thank you for sharing this brings back all the memories. The hike in and out is brutal especially going up the dry waterfalls. The cabins are in about the same shape. Outhouse too. Looks like we both couldn't find any decent adits. Some are marked on maps but probably all small and long eroded away. Kinda was disappointed lolThe shaft that has the net on it looked promising I dont believe anyone has footage or been down with ropes in 20 + years. Really need to spend a day or 2 in that canyon because Death Valley overall had big producers and well preserved mines still being how remote they are.
Definitely a neat place, and yes that hike is not easy. Thanks for watching!
I am a 350 year old desert wombat, I love these videos. Keep 'em coming. As a kid I used to play in desert scrub brush just like in your video.
I've watched too many movies.. I'm getting "The Hills Have Eyes" vibes.. lol
Did you run in to Obi-Wan Kenobi?
