    Heya, just wanted to say, very good video. MGS2 is the equivalent of my special interest, so i always keep my eye out for new videos on it. I'm annoyed i never came across yours until now, especially cause i literally have typed in "MGS2 Analysis" before lol It's nice to find one a video on this game that hasn't been made by some (american equivalent) right wing conspiracy weirdo who try and say MGS2 predicted "shadow banning" and pronouns too. I disagreed a little bit on some things on Emma's character, but that's about it from what I remember. I think i would have liked to have heard more about your thoughts on Jack and Rose, and their commentary on romances in video games but over all, very well done- for the quality provided I'm surprised your views aren't higher. Definitely going to check out your other MGS videos.

    I think the fact you weren’t able to beat Undyne and Sans when other people are doing crazy harder versions and no hit runs is a fresh perspective because that means stopping you, worked.

    Re: there being nothing quite like Mother, even in games inspired by it: Lisa is always my go-to recommendation for something that feels like Mother. In part because it is so different. It's not "another Mother game" but moreso a dark reflection of the themes of Mother. Mother is ultimately about love (of a mother), and familiar and social connections and how important they are to us as people. And Lisa is about everything toxically wrong with masculinity, and the shunning of social connections and replacing them with... drugs, working out to an insane degree, meaningless sex, violence, etc. Lisa is everything Mother isn't and it makes it such a worthwhile game to play, if you can stomach the dark themes and content. Another good one is Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass, which I'd describe as "Mother if the whole game was Magicant." Absolutely amazing Mother-inspired game.

    Something I interpreted but I don't think anybody's ever mentioned - I've always liked how Snake yet again feels pulled back into war, but he's managed to do so on his own terms, fighting for something he believes in. It's like hes accepted this is his lot in life, so he tries to make the best of it.

    Maybe I'm just a gullible doofus, but when I first played MGS2, I genuinely wondered whether Pliskin was actually Snake or not. If it's not just me being gullible I think there's something to be said about how effectively the game makes you question what's in front of your very eyes.

  • @Colddirector
    @Colddirector Місяць тому

    With Meryl, I think her fawning adulation of Snake is given at least some texture when she calls him a "sad, lonely man" just after the Psycho Mantis fight. It doesn't really stick the landing, but I think they were going for something - where someone who's seen as much death and destruction as Snake wouldn't be a wisecracking hero to most people, but a bitter broken shell of a person.

  • @Colddirector
    @Colddirector Місяць тому

    That opening cutscenes was something I didn't like at all when I first played Halo 2, but it's grown on me the more I revisit it. Too often before that and even today you see antagonists just dust themselves off after a massive failure and try again, so it's actually really cool to see failure actually have the political fallout and finger-pointing there realistically would be.

    I also really hate the movement in the land of time, just as much as I'm sure everyone does. However, there's a way easier way to get the passcode for the computer rather than translating the answer to the riddle. you don't need to translate the language at all. instead, if (while you are there) you go into one of the extra rooms in the temple of the land of dreaming, you are shown a vision of the exact passcode for the computer.

    1:40:55 one of my biggest complaints abt this game is in this spot, how asgore, one of the most hurt and burdened person in this group, who've seen and fought in the war, seen freedom of his and everyone he loves gets away making him losing his home, lost his two kids at once thenlost his wife and lost his home again so he had to make 'new home' , burdened with keeping everyone hopeful and finding a solution right there at the end with a '''supposed resolution''' even if fake bc ya flowey, he's used as a joke, nothing but a comic relief character that gets made fun of, hell even his sprite stops being serious and becomes silly. and even after beating asriel....the dialogue still treals his as a comic relief esp with the anime question We literally have both sans and papyrus please we didn't need another comic relief character, he's the most miserable, nuanced, intersting character in this dynamic, WHYYY

    fav part of this game is how diff our experiences are, the 1:27:00 part of the undyne part was the most obvious to me, i was like ya no shit now i know what that fish house i saw earlier is for, the game rewarded my exploration and curiousity in a game that pushes you too look around, read every dialgoue and care about every character and try to conncet the pieces, it felt great to go fuck yea i knew it !! if it was diff i most def wouldn't have liked it as much but you would have liked it more but this way i like it more but you ofc didn't like it as much, i don't think changing the call location is great, bc that's the point, subverting expectations.....and it being after the fight is way too on th nose, i mean the papyrus date ide ais mentoned in the middle of the fight with him, same here ofc BUT i do get your point and frustruations so yea i guess you can't win them all. but well in a sense this is a game about choices and consquences afterall

    As someone who is new to this kind of experience, feeling this dreamlike art first through ENA right here on UA-cam, LSDDE has fascinated me to no end. There is a sense of horror that you are not fully in control of this world, but it functions in a way that you aren’t truly frightened by this knowledge, more on edge and unnerved by the uncanny imagery and the eerily random soundtrack. Also the lil character on the map has been referred to as Linen. They are a silly creature. Dunno if they serve a purpose or not since I’m new to researching LSD, but they seem to be something Sato frequently draws

    The genius of zero mission is that there is not a single sequence break in the game. People think there is and pat themselves on the head but when you analyse the maps and individual rooms you realise the devs purposefully created each opportunity. They also carefully designed every area to prevent soft locking in case a player skipped an item intentionally or otherwise. They created the secret green shaft in Norfair so you can tackle Ridley first. They interconnected different areas with power bomb doors for convenience when going for 100% completion. It is just an exquisitely designed game, and the best in the series in that regard. And the fact you can play the game with so many different goals (easy, normal, hard, going for speed, going for 100%, going for 15% or less) gives it a replay value that is only bettered by the OG original

    41:50 "The two sanctuary guards have had the same background animation" proceeds to show two different battle backgrounds with two different palettes and two different animations. the thing that's the same between them is the two actual background layers. the animations aren't too terribly different, with them being more-or-less a 90 degree turn of the other, but like... come on dude, we're watching, did you not expect us to notice?

    The hotspring scene with Ionia and Lucas has always been misinterpreted, so many people have drawn parallels to very inappropriate things which is not the purpose of the scene at all. Characters learning PSI in Mother 3 are meant to represent near-death experiences, what Ionia is doing is almost drowning Lucas, not "other" things. The Magypsies are peaceful and very intelligent characters, what Ionia is doing is trying to help Lucas, not hurt him. Kumatora learning Starstorm later in the game is done by striking her with lightning, another example of this. I'm not blaming Nafan at all for this as this suggestion has been going around for years and a lot of people have fallen victim to it (even myself at one point) but I felt a need to clear it up because the Magypsies already have controversy around them for no reason at all.
