I am nature and wildlife photographer living in Nanaimo, BC Canada. I have just recently ( September, 2020) started making videos of things nature related including birds, mammals, insects and wildflowers. I have a special interest in pollinators and native plant gardening but enjoy photographing anything in the natural world.

Barred Owlet Boogies To The Blues July 15, 2024
Переглядів 125День тому
Owls commonly bob their heads rhythmically from side to side, then forward, then back. Or almost completely upside down. All these varied head movements help the owl judge the position and distance of things around it-essentially, to triangulate on objects and to build a composite picture of its surroundings. While all owls do this , the movements are often pronounced in young owlets who are ex...

That was really good Linda, I think it is your best one yet.
Thanks Keith-that was quite a night and I was glad that I managed to capture it all on video.

Cute video Lynda! Love watching them triangulate.
Thanks Cheryl-they are always fun to watch.
Another good one Linda, those little guys are so cute and fun to watch.
Thanks Keith-I couldn't resist putting some good music to this one.
Another good one Linda!!
Thanks Keith-there are more to come!
cute from uk granny
It has been very fun to watch these owlets-hours of enjoyment.
We have an owl that lives in our neighborhood but I’m not sure what kind of an owl it is. Really enjoyed watching these two. 😊
Barred owls are very common urban residents. Great-horned owls are larger and have noticeable ear tufts on their heads-I don't see them as often as barred owls.
The government is going to start mass-killing barred owls because they regard them invasive in the west (because more of them live in the east) and they see them as a threat to spotted owls. It's flawed ecology and an outrage.
I totally agree with you.
Great video Linda, those little guys have brought us a lot of enjoyment this summer!!
Yes, they have certainly kept us entertained. I will be posting a couple more compilations.
@@lyndastevens3479 We need to protect them. The government wants to start killing them because they think they're a threat to spotted owls.
Thanks for watching.
Wonderful! What a funny couple of owlets - curious and comical looking.
Yes, they have been a lot of fun to watch and I have taken so much video that there will be more compilations in the next few days. Thanks for watching.
Wonderful video!!! They look so healthy looking.
Thanks Marcy-yes, it's nice to see them looking so good.
Thank you, Lynda, for all your wonderful videos. We are very glad we met you on the banks of the river that day by the African tree. Now that we are back in Alberta, we very much appreciate your joy.
@@user-dw6pj3jn1r Thank you for your kind comments and I am glad that you are enjoying the videos. I have been taking a lot of barred owlet videos lately so will posting them over the next few days.
Amazing footage!
Thanks-I am glad that you enjoyed it. I have been doing more videos of these owlets over the past few days so will have more to post.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful owls! New subscriber here ✨
Thanks for subscribing and I am glad that you enjoyed the video.
This is hilarious! I feel like the adult keeps pretending to look for the fish so it doesn’t have to deal with the impetuous youngster. Who knew the owlet would be so aggressive 😳
Yes, it was quite fun to watch and see this interaction. Watching wildlife is always full of surprises.
This is adorable! I love how you captured all levels of energy 🥰
Thanks-those little ducklings can sure move when they want to.
Now we know who the boss is !
So true-I am always excited when I manage to capture this sort of interesting behaviour.
This little owlet is having a good time!❤
Yes, they are certainly fun to watch at this age-so curious.
Awwwww... moist owlette!
Very cute.
So sweet! 🥰❤️
Excellent Linda!!
Thanks-I missed the bath but was happy with what I managed to capture.
This video makes me happy! Thanks for being such a nice friend to bees, Lynda, and for adding these nice scenes to UA-cam.
Thanks Christine-I am glad that you are enjoying them.
Amazing video Lynda! Thanks for sharing this! ❤️
Thanks Trisha-I loved watching the interactions between the parent and owlets.
How is it physically possible for those little balls of fluff to swim so fast?
I had the same thought.
Lynda I have walked all over Bowen and haven't seen these beauties...any suggestions?
Right now they are spending time at the river between the first waterfall and the bridge. Early morning or dusk are the best times to see them.
That's great Linda, some great footage and really nice images. What a great catch!!
Thanks Keith
Fascinating!
Thanks-I am going to email you in the next few days to catch up.
Wow - awesome stuff Lynda!😊
Thanks-they were lots of fun to watch.
Such a very happy Bee, it made me happy too. Great video, from so many angles, easy to see nectar drinking apparatus, and in slow motion. Thank you Lynda. <3
Thanks-glad that you enjoyed it. She has been visiting me daily and I am wondering if she is nesting close by.
Fledglings look so innocent, don’t they? Maybe those ravens learned to use a human structure by observing barn owls!
That’s wonderful Lynda!!
Thanks Marcy-I watched turtles lay eggs last year, so it was nice to see some successful nests.
Enriching ❣️. Cattails, comments and fascinating photos 🙏🏽
Thanks-glad that you enjoyed it.
Beautiful 🐦
Thanks for watching.
Interesting the way the swan dips the cattail fluff in the water and then eat it in the water.
Yes, I thought that same thing. I wonder if it is just too dry to eat as is.
@@lyndastevens3479 I expect so. Great video. Thank you!
@@colleeneggertson2117You're welcome and thanks for watching.
Bravo 👏 You have captured so many wonderful scenes! Love the wasp digging👍
Yes, it was interesting to see the wasp moving rocks.
Wow! Wonderful capture 👍
Thanks again!
Very peaceful scene! Very graceful mouvements of their necks ! Really enjoyed watching your video 😊
Thank you-apparently this is not a commonly seen behaviour, so I was lucky to capture it.
Where in the park was this?^^ i was there today but didnt see any but i hope to soon 😊
They were in the ponds along the salmon channel. I have found that the best time to see otters there is in the fall, especially if there is fish in the ponds.
@@lyndastevens3479 thank you! I think I found the area today, I didn't see them there but I did see a family of 4 down by the waterfront today! ^^ Uploading a video now
@@djphlangeYes, I have seen that family at the waterfront too-they seem to be regulars there. I have posted two videos of otters at the waterfront and it is this family in both videos. I'll check out your video.
Well done Linda, I've been there about 7 times trying to find it but no luck so far. I will keep trying.
I have been checking the last few days and haven't seen the bittern again-I was very lucky this day that it was so active. Lately, this bird is not being very cooperative.
Excellent video Linda, brings back lots of memories of all the nights that I have spent over the years at Bowen photographing the Owls and their Owlets. I'm going to try some video this year.
Thanks Keith. I am finding that the video works well at Bowen since the owls are often not active until dusk and then the light is poor. The video seems handle the low light better than regular images and you can capture more action.
Beautiful owl. Nice video. Thank you for sharing. Greetings!!
Thanks-I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
So camouflaged. Wonderful video 🙏🏽
Thanks. I was lucky that it was quite active this day or I would never have seen it.
Oh wow Lynda! You captured him so amazingly! Love this so much! 🥰❤️
Thanks Trisha.
Such a stunning species 😊, love that beautiful red head 🥰, lovely video👏👏👏
Thanks-this is one of my favourite birds too.
