Algorithmic Dynamic Art
United States
Приєднався 17 гру 2021
Algorithmic Dynamic Art (ADA) is a real-time generative art form. Each unique art instance has a lifecycle of creation, growth and death. Many art algorithms were initially inspired by works of artists including Bridget Riley, Rothko, Pollock, and Gene Davis, but have wandered far when adapted to include motion and animations. Some art algorithms leverage natural or math algorithms including flocking, planetary motion, Perlin noise, B splines and tessellations.
ADA investigates art as algorithm. Python code is the media, creating the creator of the art. Algorithms are the most durable form of art, easily duplicated and preserved in the cloud.
Each art instance is composed for you while you watch, and is ephemeral, unique, and non-repeating. ADA avoids habituation, is always new, engaging, and often surprising. Some algorithms challenge perceptions.
ADA is designed for live presentation on large HD or 4k displays. ADA is a Python application running on Windows or Linux.

Generative Art using Reaction Diffusion Simulation 2024 10 18 4k
This is the second iteration of the Reaction Diffusion art algorithm. Reaction Diffusion is a simulation of 2 chemicals reacting and diffusing in a 2D space. A good tutorial of the math is here: www.karlsims.com/rd.html. By varying 2 parameters, f and k (feed rate and kill rate) you get spectacularly complex changes in behavior. I have selected 12 combinations for this capture of the algorithm and added more initialization patterns.
Algorithmic Dynamic Art (ADA) is a real-time generative and non-curated art form. Each unique, non-repeating art instance has a life cycle of creation, growth and death. ADA is art as algorithm, written in Python and designed for live presentation on large HD or 4k displays. Each art instance is composed as you watch, is ephemeral, unique and never repeated. This video is a screen capture of the ADA application running particular algorithms.
These works are best viewed by playing one of the playlists on a large screen TV.

This algorithm is a 2 dimension cellular automata know as The Game of Life. It was invented by mathematician John Conway. There is a huge repository of starting configurations that create interesting patterns and machines. I selected around 60 interesting patterns to use in this visualization. Algorithmic Dynamic Art (ADA) is a real-time generative and non-curated art form. Each unique, non-rep...

This is the third generation of the algorithm featuring polygons in various grids. As the polygon size varies, surprising geometric effects arise in the interaction between polygons. It starts with a single color and uniform sizing, then adds varying colors, and finally varying the size based on a noise field. This version adds solid colors with low alpha resulting in an interesting mix of chan...

This is an enhancement to the Perlin Noise algorithm. Perlin noise was very compute intensive, so I added smooth noise fields to the mix. It is not as graceful as Perlin noise, but much faster to compute. Tuning parameter ranges yield instances ranging from serene, cloud-like color fields to raucous explosions of rapidly changing colors. Finally I occasionally add dark or light stripes to the c...

This 3 body simulation was developed after I read Cixin Liu's trilogy many years ago. I was fascinated by the chaotic behavior of such a simple system. This simulation collapses space into 2 dimensions, and starts with a few randomized initial conditions. And of course adding some changing colors for interest. I have tuned it up a bit after starting to watch the Netflix adaptation of the first ...

These are all really cool! Has your art ever been featured in an installation such as in a museum or at a business or park?
Thanks for your support. Not yet. I applied for an emerging artist feature at a gallery in DC, but there were 10x applicants for their positions.
@@algdynart No problem, and I’m sorry you didn’t get access to the feature. Or is the application and evaluation process not over yet?
That was flocking awesome! 👍
Good one!
@@algdynart Thanks, and flock yeah!
Whoa, that's awesome you had Conway as a professor! But wasn't his first name John?
You are right...I was confused. It was the mathematician John Conway not the computer scientist. I'll fix the notes.
@@algdynart Oh it's all good! So did you have a class with John Conway, or was it someone else?
It was Richard (Dick) Conway, who just died recently. I mistakenly connected him with Game of Life. Thanks for catching my error.
@@algdynart Oh I gotcha. No problem.
Those were some nice color palettes! I've played around with Gray-Scott reaction-diffusion stuff off and on for years, and it can certainly make some beautiful patterns.
Thanks! I have a set of color palette generators that I use for all my art algorithms. A couple use simple algorithms that aren't very good. I also use the library palettable that generates palettes for graphics and UI design. My latest is taking photos of paintings from exhibits and use K Means clustering to extract the color palettes. These are the most interesting. I plan on using ChatGPT to create pleasing palettes. We'll see how that works. The Gray-Scott stuff is great. I plan to further investigate the possibilities.
@@algdynart Oh man, using ChatGPT to create pleasing palettes seems like a neat project!

Hi I love art, I love it when you talk about being a perfectionist, I crochet and I take a lot of time working on things because I want it to be just right. You always have something in your videos that inspires me to try something different. I invite you to come to the Hutapea Abstract Painting video gallery. 😊 😍😍❤❤ see my art too.
