    Thank you! It is good to know I am not alone in dealing with this problem. To those who think the problem is solved by merely throwing an Affresh in and running the tub clean cycle, you obviously have not dealt with this particular model and it’s flaws. As another commenter said, after running the clean cycle, you end up with a run full of that looks like wet shredded leaves. They won’t go away on their own! At 5’3”, I can barely reach the bottom on my tiptoes. I have to wipe it all down with multiple Lysol wipes, and then wipe again with multiple paper towels. It takes forever! You have to get in all the cracks and crevices, too. I run the clean cycle monthly, and still have the issue. I will try running more bleach cycles as recommended here. Seriously, LG, it should not be this hard to use your product!

    Thank so much for this video, Chris!!! I think this is exactly what I am dealing with. An older friend that I help around the house recently purchased a home with one of these machines. She initially thought the previous owner had washed laundry with lots of leaves in it because there were so many flakes. I have run three tub clean cycles with the tablets, and one with bleach, and am still getting flakes. I figured there is a source somewhere that must still have gunk in it. I suspected removing that center disk would reveal something significant! I have a couple of questions for which I would greatly appreciate your insight. 1) Does the center disk on your machine have three slots around the perimeter? Those look like one could slip a standard screw driver into one and pop off that disk. Is that what you did? (I realize you ended up beaking a tab.) 2) Was that the only place that you found the scum hiding? Was there any on the outside of the drum walks? Thank you again for this info!!!!!

I try and create videos that help people to get answers to some problem that is not covered well in UA-cam, as a way to pay back for all the information I have gotten over the years. Hi Chris and thanks for your video. After watching several videos on cleaning our LG washing machine and removing and cleaning the scrud from the underside of the agitator, I also noticed the scrud was trapped between the plastic and the metal of the agitator. I saw you separated the two pieces and then you said you had a new one on order. Can you tell me what the cost was please? I just don't feel the washer is going to be totally scrud-free without it being replaced and my husband said there isn't anyway of separating them and getting the metal sealed properly. Is this why you had to order a new one? Thanx.

    Mine has been doing the same thing. My center mount is different though. How old is your machine? Mine is a little over a year old and it has happened on and off over the last 6 mos. or so. I just thought it was junk from our socks and pockets. Did LG send you a new agitator or did you have to buy a new one? If you bought one, where and how much? Does this mean I need to buy a new one every 6 to 12 months for my $900 Smart LG machine? I even use the tub clean cycle and cleaner. I sent a video to the appliance store and LG looking for a solution. I ran three tub clean cycles with cleaner over the last two days and one regular cycle with liquid bleach and it’s still there.

    • @captainsutterley
      @captainsutterley 3 роки тому

      The problem is the space between the metal and the plastic. Once all that scum is in there no amount of cleaning cycle will get it out of there, in my opinion. So, in my opinion it is time to go to any appliance part house and they will be able to order you the part. (On mine the center plastic cap, tangs were flimsy and I broke one, so I also replaced that with a new one) I now use bleach at least once a week to clean whites. And a clean cycle with cleaner once a month. That seems to have stopped the problem and was in the instruction book that came with my washer. I am not an appliance repair person, but felt okay fixing this. It is always good to consider having an appliance repair person do the work.

      I have all LG appliances and there is an issue with each of them. The ice maker broke after the first year and the plastic from the freezer drawer keeps breaking off. We currently have it rigged up, but if you touch it the wrong way, it falls off the track. The dishwasher will not turn on from time to time. The plastic on the washer and dryer have turned yellow, the detergent compartment is full of mold and it is very difficult to clean and the crack where the lid to the washer is collects all kind of scum and is also extremely difficult to get any type of cleaning tool or rag in. Horrible products! I am planning to sell them all soon and get Whirlpool or Maytag.

      @@jennurbanski1029 Jenn, I am not an appliance repair guy, more of a do it yourself guy. But, the top of the machine unbolts from the back. The agitator can come out with the top on. The middle plastic cap pops off, (I had to buy a new one, the tab broke). There is a bolt underneath. Note various washer sequence. If you are taking the drum out, then the top does have to come off. And lastly there is a very large nut on the drum put on with probably an impact tool at the factory. This you will have to overcome. Hope that helps.

      @@captainsutterley Chris, to remove the top, in addition to unbolting from the back. Do you have to use the PUTTY knife trick from the front?

      @@lawinner888 , Thomas I am not a repair guy. I worked through it like you are. It's been a year since I took it apart. I would say replace the agitator, which is easy to do. Then use lots of bleach on the clean cycle to try and kill anything below the drum. That is a pain to get out. Good luck:)
