I’m a big fan of geared tripod heads, so my answer will always be yes…

I was team geared head, but since I don’t do architecture anymore I don’t use it. I want my gear to be a bit lighter to photograph landscapes, because we walk a lot with the backpack on our backs. I really love the geared heads because you can tweak a composition to perfection and with a balhead it’s not that accurate. I’m gonna take my geared head and gonna weight it and maybe it’s the same weight as my balhead now and maybe will switch it 😁

Great informative video man. I’ve always been thinking about getting a geared head, currently just living off with the default PD ball head and it’s not the most fun to work with 😅 especially hard to do panos or managing minute changes with telephoto shots. Thanks for making this.

@GlennVanderbeke 35mm was my only lens on leica, for years i photographed with it, then i sold it to get dslr that i had with 50mm,. Now i am back to 35mm again 😅📷
great video! I am planning to travel to Thailand in a few months and these are my lenses in my Canon R50: RF50 mm f1.8, RF 15-45mm f4-6.3 and RF24-105mm f4-7.1. I don't like to use zoom during a trip, because I like street photography and I think that for Thailand 25-35mm would be enough. I am wondering to buy the RF28mm f2.8 because of its price and because I am very comfortable shooting at that range. Do you think I should use my RF24-105mm f4-7.1 at 28mm instead of buying a 28mm f2.8fixed lens? I prefer quality instead of versatility... so I think that the image quality that the RF28mm f2.8 can give me... it is worth it. thanks in advance!
@@marc9798 Hey Marc, personally I really like the compactness of the 28mm pancake. The small lens also doesnt look as professional compared to a big lens, which is a plus when doing street photography. You say that you are comfortable at 28mm, but on your R50 this will act like a 44.8mm lens (pls be aware of this before you buy this lens). (Maybe consider the 16mm on a crop body?). Offcourse you don't have to buy a new lens. Your 50mm and 15-45 will do great as Well. Back in the days I did some documentary photography with my 600d and 18-55 kitlens. It received a merit award in an European contest. The vision of the photographer is far more important then the gear ☺️ Anyways, good luck with the choice and your travels to Thailand!
@@GlennVanderbeke wow thanks for your advice! As you can see, I am a beginner and I am trying to practice as much as possible before the trip because when I was in Rome and I took some photos... I didn't know really well how to configure my camera so I was really disappointing.. as I am a beginner I tend to think that the kit lens 15-45mm will not give me nice shoots (that's what I've read in some reviews of that lens) so that's why I want to purchase a compactness lens. So do you think that in terms of sharpness, the RF28mm is not worth it in comparison of RF18-45 F4-6.3 kit lens?
@@marc9798 Hi Marc, I think the 28mm will be sharper. In most cases, primes are sharper compared to zoom lenses. But besides that, first try to "master" your kitlens and camera settings and composition before buying new lenses. If not, you risk to spend money and be unhappy thinking the 28mm (for example), is also bad because you don't fully understand it. About reviews: Yes, there will always be differences in lenses, but the small difference in sharpness will not make a 'bad composition' better. ;) Also, nowadays, I see people with the sharpest lenses out there, applying filters or vaseline, to soften the image and to add character in their photos... Think about that :)

@@mordavian I have a comparisson between thé Manfrotto 410 and the MHXPRO 3WG on my channel as well. Thé MHXPRO 3WG has more plastic Parts, so its lighter. Go check it out ;)

The 28mm RF is quite nice! X70 was too but not as durable of a system
I really enjoy it. The x70 was great, not interchangeable to other lenses but the size was it's bigger advantage 😊 I also liked the build quality. Thanks for watching and your comment ! ❤️

My always on lens is the Canon RF 14-35mm F4 L IS USM

One of Canons sharpest RF lenses. Underrated to the max, sure it has drawbacks such as a slow and noisy focus motor, loss of contrast when pointed towards bright light sources and unfortunately it sucks in dust like no other RF lens, but the positives outweighs the negatives. It is really impressive what they have made in such a tiny package. I also like how one can always add it to the kit without really thinking about it. Going out looking for wildlife with a heavy telephoto for instance.. maybe the need for something wider appears, a landscape setting etc.. and the RF 28 is there to deliver.

Have 410 and the only complaint is they did not fit an Arca head. Only reasonable competitor is 405.

Hey Andy, I can't compare with the peak design sling, but I'm still using the tenba sling a lot for mini shoots and it holds up very well.
