Is Thursday's Premier All-White Sneaker Worth It?
I was REALLY unimpressed by my Thursday sneaker. Leather started cracking early on, the bottom already wearing off, just didn't have good quality.
@@74bhounds wow, that’s a first for me! I personally have never had an issue. Did you reach out to customer service by chance?
@@lantzkulp so the first time I ordered them they sent me two left ones 😅They did send me the new ones when I reached out but on this one it's "normal wear and tear"
@@74bhoundsDid you happen to watch my first video? I’m curious to see if we had the same experience.
Wow! This is a great and honest honest honest review. I’ve been considering these shoes for a while. After seeing this review I will definitely spend a little more towards another brand.
Glad I could help! Before making a final decision, be sure to check out my follow-up video. You may surprised!
This was a really nice vid. Cheers my dude
@@mohd.salman wow, thank you very much! 🍻
I like the eye lit idea! I know some brands don’t use eyelids at all and will often times pull on the shoe string and it pierces right through the leather and results in a dis-functional shoe unfortunately. I agree that somehow brands can be sketchy and weigh heavily on social media to sell their shoes. I can be the first to say that Thursday isn’t that company (not implying you were suggesting that). I think people often forget that marketing has changed dramatically in the past 10+ years and utilizing different tactics such as influencers, social media etc has a great advantage than randomized marketing. It’s important for the consumer to do their research before purchasing a product. Hence why I started this channel to help others do that. Analine leather is very high quality but yet requires more care. Usually in this price range, the consumer isn’t looking for something like that. But Thursday does offer pretty much as good as you can get leather without a large markup. Not only that, but the outsole rubber is also high quality. I also think Analine leather is a preference for the consumer. Is it great? Yes but like I said, it requires far more upkeep and care. In terms of anatomical shape, I must agree with the fact that these didn’t blow anyone out of the water. But, I know they have changed the last to help better themselves in that retrospect. I think you have to give beginner shoe/boot companies time to adapt to what their consumers feedback is to perfect their products. The shoe companies you’re referring to have had decades of trial and error to perfect theirs. All-in-all I think companies such as Thursday and Beckett Simonon offer amazing products at their price point for those who shop in those price ranges. This was an amazing comment by yourself and I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to write it. 🙏 Best, Lantz
IMO the smarter thing to do is to use hidden eyelets. That way it looks like there aren't eyelets from the outside but if you look inside you will see that there are. Other brands that have been making and selling shoes in this style, since before the founders of any of these new trendy social media marketing companies were even born, do this. Also not being a middleman, glorified drop shipper like most of these social media fly by night brands are, and actually being a large well-established company has many benefits such as economies of scale. Meaning they have access to materials, technology and processes that the smaller companies don't. I'm not saying that's what Thursday is. Thursday seems like the least shady or scum like, the most legit, of any of these social media brands I've seen all over youtube. I still don't think I'd ever try their shoe when there are other brands, usually European brands that trendy social media hip folks seem to have never heard of, sell high quality shoes of a similar sort. That way consumers aren't going in blind and actually know what they're getting. I'd be more curious if any these social media companies selling shoes like this actually use aniline leather. There's no chance they're going to do that on a white shoe, but maybe for other colors. You can't fake aniline leather, only the best leather is finished in that way so it's a solid bet that you're getting high quality. For folks that like leather, aniline is just better. It wears and ages better, it lasts much longer than solid pigment or coated leathers. Sure, the solid pigment and coated leathers look good in the short to medium term and they are lower fuss, more water resistant and don't tend to scuff or mark as easily however once they start to go, that's it, there is no coming back. Because once that top layer is worn or cracks there isn't anything you can do. Analine leather on the other hand looks better off the bat because you can actually see the grain not just the plastic coating on top. It patinas gorgeously as it ages and literally lasts forever. You can easily buff it back to a like new condition again and again after years and years. As it's pigmented transparently, you can even change the way it looks entirely; making it lighter, darker, giving it various patinas, or even dye it a different color. Leather rant aside. The biggest difference I see aside from markups and middlemen posing as manufacturers is in the midsole. aka what your foot is actually stepping on. Most of these shoes are using solid or air blown rubber which is firm and unforgiving. The lasts tend to be narrow and not anatomically correct. European brands that have been making shoes like this for a very long time tend to use anatomically correct lasts that actually properly fit a human foot and some of them use much more comfortable and forgiving materials in the midsole, while still using a very hard-wearing rubber on the outsole that holds up to years and years of daily wear. I see lots of obsessing over leather from consumers that basically don't understand anything about leather and obsessing over marketing buzzwords for rather mundane things like Marom cupsoles, which is nothing more than a specific brand name for a generic rubber cupsole that isn't any better than any other rubber cupsole. it's a brand name, that's all it is. They have 60 employees. Lots of folks seem to think it's some special magical material. It's literally rubber.
Do they run true to size?
They do, but I’d highly recommend ordering a wider size or a half size up if you need extra room in the toe box. 👍🏼
Thursday’s or Beckett Simonon???
I think there are pros and cons to every option. I think BC has a wider toebox and found those to be more comfortable right from the beginning. You do have to wait a month or so to get your shoes in. I think construction and durability goes to Thursday. You get them quicker but the toe box is narrow. If you can get them in a half size up or a wider option, they could be your winner. Plus, they are cheaper.
I love my Reids! I have a pair of Morgen Trainers arriving this week, excited to experience those. As a big fan of Beckett Simonon as a whole, I can’t get myself to try another similar brand. Btw, how are your Dowler boots holding up?:)

I wonder if they are the same model?? I know they released newer ones.
Would you consider these TTS length wise?
Yes! Just be sure to order wide if your feet aren’t narrow. 👍🏼

Right when I think he can't get anymore handsome, he does this.
I have a pair of the premier in cocoa and gum sole. The leather on mine is 2.6mm (I have a micrometer) that's tongue and inside past the 2nd heel leather. I really like them, but break-in is a bitch.
That leather is beautiful! I’ve been wanting to get those! Thanks for the heads up!!

@@lantzkulpI’m sure I will! I have looked at them for so long and see many good reviews that I finally pulled the trigger. I think these and a pair of good boots ( snakeskin or something cool ) is about all you need lol ( maybe a good pair of double strap monks is absolutely needed
@@thetattooedguy1413 Thursday has amazing boots as well!
I like Beckett Simonon, because they’re Blake stitched, so they’re resolable and no “brake in” needed, super comfortable right out of the box and very affordable.
They are great! I think the leather is just as good but I do like Blake stitching. I think for those who need that extra comfort, AmberJack could be a great option. Thanks for sharing!
Can we talk about how the sole doesn't even last a year? The shoes are great but I'm disappointed in the sole. I've worn a pair for the last year daily, as part of work and going around town. This has caused severe wear at the balls of both my feet just from walking. To the point where I can almost push my index finger through the rubber.
Wow, that’s very interesting. I’ve never heard of that but I could definitely see it happening. Have you considered tatted customer support? I know Thursday sneakers utilize rubber from vibram factories but I’m not sure about Beckett. Thanks for sharing!
Did the bird dogs shrink after the wash? Specifically the length.
Yes. It is 73% cotton so I expected a little shrink. 😅
The ring eyelets look terrible on white sneakers so if Beckett sees this please DONT!
@@ShinyKnife 😂😂😂😂😂
Mine are snug on the toes too. Going to return for wide
Would you consider your foot to be “normal” or usually wide?
@@lantzkulp normal
@@lantzkulp I actually might keep as I found out leather will stretch and I can break in
@@ItsSeals I guess it would decide on how "snug" your shoes are. If your pinky toe and or big toe are being squished, I'd return for a wider option. 👍🏼
Great choice … I’ve never been a seersucker fan, but after seeing you in seersucker, I’m a convert!
@@gmcrealman2890 can’t go wrong!
Good review, I value comfort but also value. I think it’s the old buy once cry once is particularly true. For 200 dollars I expect a good quality product, not to say these aren’t but the glue being exposed is not a good sign. For 200 you can find other brands utilizing a goodyear welt with quality stitching.
I can definitely see your point and I don’t disagree. I think it just goes back to what the buyer values most. I think AmberJack is for those who value comfort over a Goodyear welt traditional shoe that may not be comfortable to them. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching and sharing your opinion! I love this community!
@@lantzkulp I have a few goodyear welted shoes and that’s the exact reason I found your review on amberjack. Being in shoes all day it is very important to be comfortable. It’s a challenge to find that happy medium
@@Hawk-mc3ch It really is! I have a couple great pairs of Beckett Simonon and Thursday shoes/boots and I absolutely know what you mean. You're 100% correct on finding that happy medium. I do know AmberJack has stated that they are working on a resolable program with all of their footwear. Might be something worth justifying if they have a zero charge program?
If they are glued you can have them resoled
This is a great video! The cons really helped me. I still bought the shoe, but now I know what I'm getting into (no pun intended).
Thank you for the feedback! That means a lot. What kind did you end up going with?
@@lantzkulp I bought the Encore in white. Can't wait for it to show up at my door!

@@SirLouEllen it’s a good brand!
Great video!
Thank you so much!
I’m really looking into getting one of these, I have a slightly wide foot so I’m torn on what size to get, I like my shoes snug, and on shoes that are normally wider I wear a 9.5, narrower shoes I wear a size 10. I notice that there’s bigger width options online, but I’ve got no idea what width option would be best
Id go with the 9.5 if it’s an option. The shoe laces will help keep them tight if need be. I’d always prefer more room in the toe box over having less room. That’s just the knowledge from working with podiatrist coming out of me though. 😅
Great look man! You brought the heat indoors!
Appreciate it!
You can have an honest review or a sponsored video. What this is, an ad. and what you are is a liar. fits right in on youtube. but no one with half a brain should trust a thing you say about it. If you had an ounce of integrity you would have bought them with your own money without contacting the brand in any way. but that's not why you make youtube videos, lets be real. you want free stuff and you want to make money on the side showing off free stuff. sweet deal. The fact that the brand is willing to do sponsored videos for guys with a few hundred subs gives more useful information than this video could. to be clear though. Spain has a rich history of working with leather and shoes. Tons of amazing companies in Spain making high end stuff similar in quality to the Italian and French names for a much better value. Colombia inherited some of this tradition through Spanish colonialism. However Colombia also has quite a reputation for... let's just say... unscrupulous business activities. And I'm not referring to the drug trade, I'm talking about all sorts of products and services which absolutely includes handmade leather goods. That's not an uncommon one. There's another Colombian made brand that sells similar stuff through Amazon and almost all of their positive reviews are the most obvious fakes I have seen. None of the so called reviewers bothered to remove the tags, they all uploaded photos, and all the accounts only have 1 review, clearly the same camera used in all of them. If you bother to check their store rating, rather than the individual products, that's where you get a drastically different and more accurate picture of how real customers felt about the products. I reported it to Amazon and the company fought back and had Amazon ban my ability to review products. I spent over $17,000 on amazon that year and often left honest and well researched reviews which got a lot of helpful votes. Nope, Gotta keep the scams going. I'm not saying that's what this is. This looks like a fine product. I don't believe it's worth $170 for one second, but no one actually pays that. These go on sale for $99 all the time. You could for sure do worse for that kind of money. But I would think anyone that actually wants a shoe that has, let's say, social appeal, would opt for brands that carry more social capital. These are for sure for a certain kind of customer that's looking for let's say a presumably luxury item but only, let's say, "for a deal."
I have six pairs of Thursdays-4 boots, 1 shoes and these. All the boots are a 9, except one pair of the boots are an 8 1/2 and are useless. The shoes are also an 8 1/2 and are useless too. I’m gonna get them stretched and hopefully I’ll be able to wear them. The sneakers are a 9 1/2 and are comfortable but could fit better. I just bought a pair of penny loafers and they told me to get an 8 1/2. I’m hoping they’ll fit. So herein lies my issue with Thursdays. The sizing is terrible. My boots are from the early days so the nines are perfect . I wish they would standardize their sizing because I think you can’t get a better pair of shoes for the price point.
@@peterhess2610 it is funny how I’m in the same boat. I wear a 10 in the boots but a 9 in the shoes 😂. This was their old sizing as well. Thanks for sharing!
I’m 66 I don’t tuck in my shirts anymore and I love bird dogs. I also love Vouri
I have the Reid sneakers, and also have shoe trees in them, however, I’m wondering it’s necessary with their short toe box.
How do you like the Reid sneakers? Do you have any others by chance? I as well have shoe trees in them. I use them to help with the creases over time. Obviously leather stretches so while the soles conform to your feet, the leather becomes more comfortable and less stiff, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing!
I’m enjoying my Reid sneakers, love the pebbles leather. You’re right about the stiff lacesc needs a little break in time, but after a couple uses all good. I also have the Garcia’s in pull up brown leather. I feel like these have a bit more cushion in the food bed, also feel there’s a bit more room in the toe box. I give the edge to the Garcia’s. Overall, love Beckett Simonon, excellent craftsmanship, leather, and even better customer service. I’m really enjoying my loafers, and boots.
@@foodandbourbon7737I’ll have to check those out. The sizing for the loafers are tricky for me. I have a 9 in the Reid, and a 9 in the loafers. The loafers still seems a bit big though. Any issues on your end with that?
For me no issues at all. I ordered 10.5 in their oxfords, loafers, boots, and sneakers. They all fit great. They all fit wonderfully, but I will see I absolutely love their loafers and the fit, and comfort. Maybe try using the inserts they provide or go down .5 size. Hope that helps. What other BS footwear do you have? What’s your overall experience?
@@foodandbourbon7737 I appreciate that. I currently have their Reid sneakers, Bernard tassle loafers, and their Dowler boots. I like all of them and they are all the same size but for some reason the loafers a smidge big. I'll use their inserts ad see how that goes. Appreciate you brother!

First off, thank you for checking both of these videos out. I hope you got some value out of it. You'll have to keep me posted on how you like the suede loafers from them!
Got that sexy style thang going on! I like it!
👀🕺🏻
I’ve been wearing Beckett Simonon for a while. I own an older pair of Reids and 2 new pairs (1 high top, 1 low top). I feel that the first is higher quality. The new sole although it does add grip seems cheaper. Also, the shoe box is definitely way more flimsy. I worked in retail for many years and I understand that the change in the cost of materials leaves the brand to make a decision to either raise the price of the product or choose other materials and keep the price the same. It seems like they chose the latter. Gonna see how the new pairs wear over time. These same changes aren’t dealbreakers in my opinion but just observations, and/or comparison of the original and the new product.
That’s great insight! When did you receive your first pair?
@@lantzkulp I think I got my first pair 5 or 6 years ago.

Cool style but the short pants, i struggle with. Also, why not a belt?
Thanks for the compliment! The higher pants has always been something I’ve been fond of. The belt situation is an optional one. Sometimes a belt can separate the outfit. I elected to keep it all one piece instead of chopping it up. I’m a shorter guy, so the no belt and higher pants helps give the illusion that I’m taller.

I'm a big Thursday fan who's made many purchases from them (boots and sneakers). The pros with the sneakers is that they're sleek and stylish so they go with just about any outfit. The quality is great for the price. Other brands may have better quality, but it's ridiculous to spend hundreds of dollars for a sneaker! Cons include the narrowness of the sneakers, creasing of certain pairs and a some minor QC issues, like inconsistent glue and loose stitching (this is hardly noticeable) That said, unless you have a wide foot, Thursday sneakers are a great value for the price point.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head. I couldn’t agree more. Although, Beckett Simonon is t a bad choice either if you don’t mind waiting for your pair. Thanks for the feedback on your experience!
