The game against Cincinnati was and still is the most frustrating and disappointing game I ever saw. I remember it like it was yesterday. A few months later Grapes took over the Amerks and saved hockey in Rochester.

Great to hear your voice again Grapes. CBC sucks the big one. Sports net too. You got people out there making hockey channels on the tube just so they can listen to the games. Why not you? Get someone to cover the games and you do your intermissions just like the old days. I miss you buddy. You were a giant part of what made the whole thing tick. Your off the cuff comments and determination to deal with hot potato issues makes you unique and steadfast in a wishy washy world of weak kneed weaklings who would never even dream of taking on anything that might cause their precious jobs to be in danger let alone take huge chances like you did. Make a coaches corner on here Grapes. You have an enormous amount of fans out there that value your opinions both on and off the ice.

Hey Grapes, I have wondered why, Wendel (#17) never tried his hand at pro coaching. I'd just like to get your thoughts on that if you'd be so kind.

It started in European soccer, moved to the NBA, and now it's creeping into the NHL though I think there's legitimacy to the short-term coach despite success. Vegas went to two finals, and four conference finals in six years and had three coaches. I think there's going to be two coaching streams: for re-building teams you can have a long-term coach (maybe five years) to teach and develop. But for teams in "win now" mode you need a motivator and maybe you have a two year shelf life.

There has always been a penalty for Un-sporstmen like conduct for diving or embellishing on a play, the refs just never call it out. Humiliate a guy that is trying to make the ref look stupid a couple times and it will end or at least less of it happening.

People are more "health conscious" now and so the calories in beer turn people off to it. Seltzers (same alcohol volume) are more in vogue now (and a lot of beer companies have switched to producing that instead of beer lol).

As a former Referee in the OMHA and OHL , I can assure you that the referees aren’t talking to each other about it taking guts to make a call ….lol… Officiating is just like playing, sometimes you’re locked into the zone and call a game to perfection, most days you are very good but miss a couple calls , but don’t call anything you shouldn’t have , and when you’re off , you call a few that you shouldn’t have and you miss a few that you should have caught and you just can’t get into a good rhythm.

God love you Don Cherry, and it was sad to hear about Rex Murphy another great Canadian.

Leafs cannot do anything to improve their team in other areas with four players taking up half their salary cap space, regardless if they are not going to get back the value if they trade Marner. He is invisible in the playoffs year after year not just this season. Playoff hockey is different than regular season hockey. Perimeter passing and not shooting the puck might work in the regular season but does not work in the playoffs.
