Dire - the reverb and distortion might be ok for a climax within the piece, but the portrait of Bach looking stern says it all.. Bach is meant for technical playing and any additional flamboyance just jars.. try playing with an acoustic guitar and without the intro

Bucketheads teacher...weirded to see him sweep..he's more into string skipping..perfect alternate picking..clean and great tone..

It sounds like people here are dissing JS Bach and that's not right. They should know that his followers include; Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Andres Segovia, Richie Blackmore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Shawn Lane, John Willaims (both the guitarist and the film composer), and lots more. This is a wonderful and tasty arrangement of a masterpiece. Paul Gilbert did well.

it's not the same instrument, nor it is the same audience. It should be pursued. Paul doesn't claim to be a classical guitarist, he just likes the melody and the arrangement. Being able to play this in any shape or form is challenging enough.

Hearing only the one part is a bit drab and stark - which is why attempting to play pieces written solely for the keyboard are best left alone and not to be pursued - even by ambitious guitar players; especially since the tone of the electric is a bit dodgy

If you're a good guitarist, your left hand becomes much easier to control. A lot easier, so things like string skipping and arpeggios require very little effort on your left hand's part, because you are able to do it soundly without picking(i.e. just run your left hand on the frets). He's right for looking at his picking hand, because that's what is the main focus to becoming a better guitarist, your left hand becomes used to guitar quicker than your right(comes from a lot of people I've met).

Oh, another person who pretends to know Bach. Paul is one of the few guitarists I have heard who respect Bach. I am one of them too. Now go back to your room and practice.

Beautiful. Any real listeners of Bach (whom it appears not that many) would realize Paul really feels it and is playing it in the most respectful and passionate way. I have studied Bach for 2 years straight and he has it.

I love Bach, he wrote so much beautiful music which goes beyond every thing you can imagine. Did you ever listen profoundly to the harmony of this Prelude? Unfortunately you play this piece rather like a mechanical etude and that's sad because in this way you do not have the ability to enter into the true richness of this musics mind. Sorry, no offense but that's the way I think.
