    It's true that they have a strange structure for some geafted cacti. Particularly ariocarpus. I have seen videos from a guy here in Australia not too far from me who sells cacti spine city or walker87. He gave me 5 rooted cuttings of pereskiopsis and said they grow extremely fast but he no longer uses them. He showed inside his hothouse ehich is mainly small barrel type cacti like ariocarpus, capiocaco and maybe mammillaria and some rebutia hybrids and a few lithops. The ariocarpus come from the same seed. Some grafts too but wouldn't grow like about 10%. Even though the ariocarpus was from the same bunch of seeds, many looked entirely different from each other. Then he showed the degrafting and rooting process. HOURS of fiddling around with tiny melon baller and a scalpel to separate the pereskiopsis from the cacti and you're left with a big hole in the bottom. Great for rot to start. I have seen multiple with rot already on the grafted cacti/scion, including a peyote in south America (I pretty much understand Spanish) and literally the whole bottom half LOOKED fine but had some kind of rot inside it. Had to literally chop the bottom half off. I have a tricho that's been grafted to and the scion looks to be almost killing the tricho rootstock and it has pupped so much I might have to do 30 grafts if it dies. Another taller one seems much healthier.

    Hello Hans, 4 years later! I accidentally broke a tall cactus of my brother's, ( who passed to Heaven this year,) while transporting it to my home. He was an avid cactus & succulent lover and so am I, because of him. But, no where even remotely, the genius he was. I wish I could have found you earlier than today. The video I found, 8 weeks ago, said to put lime on the end I cut and stand where air circulation could reach it. Should I plant it in soil now? There is only brown to black on the bottom? Wish I knew then, how you cut the bottom. I live in the cold upper midwest of America. Hope you get this!

    • @plantdaddy3420
      @plantdaddy3420 7 місяців тому

      Hi there "Humpty"! I wish I had a photo of your cacti, it would be easier for me. To put lime on the end with a wound surface can´t be good because of the high pH level in lime. Better to just let the surface dry out in a circulated air and hanging freely with the bottom down. This plant in the video has grown near 20 cm now and it is very healthy, happy days. Fingers crossed that you success with your cacti!

    I couldn’t hear the middle word - Peat 50%, it sounded like Johnines 30% and sand 20%. Could you please tell me what the middle one is?

      Sorry for a VERY VERY late answer...I haven´t notice your comment, so sorry for that! It is John Innes 30%...it´s a standard peat based compost here in UK... @sharynpaduch2953

    I just love this love story! I saw the video of Lyn pollinating them. Your slideshow and music bring it all home. I also saw the amazing seed pods that came from their "love-making". I haven't yet seen what comes of the sowing, but I can't wait. I'm watching everything in order, cuz I'm crazy, lol. I am absolutely obsessed with you and Lyn. Thank you for sharing all of your lovely talents and positivity!

      How you get here I don´t have a clue! What you see is up to you! I´m half dressed and be happy for that, before and after the video was done I was naked! The weather was very hot that day! Do you have any other questions...maybe what the video is about!?!? Right now it´s a heat wave here in Belfast, so you can imagine... ;-)
