OM-1 Bird Autofocus Test in video: Feathered Subjects Put to the Focus Challenge!
Your photographs are beautiful. Where I had previously lived on the Northern California coast USA, these birds were one of the species we had. I learned that the reason the stand with their wings spread is because they do not have the oil protection on their wings that other sea birds have, so they dry their wings this way.
Take a shot everytime Dennis says "super." Muahahahahaha hahahahahahaha! But seriously, I need something like this to travel with.
😂 i did notice when i did the edit but thought “what the h…” .. its is a SUPER tripod 😁
Goodmorning Dennis With the Om-1 and the 150-400?, or the Nikon combination ? Very Nice video.👍
Also the OM-1 gear 🎥📷😁
With Nikon 👏👍
No OM-1 and 150-400mm 😁
@@DennisJacobsenWildlife This is unexpectedly amazingly good, what a beautiful video.👍👏❤️
@@theflyingdutchman7127 For static stuff its amazing, the trouble starts when there is to much action and stuff in the background :) and thanks! appreciated
@ the perfect camera system has yet to be invented. perhaps in the future. long live the future
For the static shots indoors such as the church, the hand held hi res mode is unbeatable as you get such a clean image with much less noise.
Great work again, Sir! I would love to spend some time in that hide.
Its a great hide for sure 📷🎥👍🏻😁
Thanks for the comprehensive review; beautiful photos!
I have 3 outside my window now! Maybe 2.5 meters from the window
fantastic 😁 i hope this year i can follow them again!
Are they actually made by them ???? or a known company with years of experience making binoculars
For what i know its their own :) but im not 100% sure!
Que calidad de binoculares 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
When I'm shooting my OM1 in low light, with non-moving subjects, such as cathedral interiors, I use the high res mode. The resulting composites are noise free, at least up to iso 10,000. The ibis in HH high res. mode is remarkable. I think this type of shooting is where the HH high-res mode really shines.
Good tip 👍🏻😁 thanks for sharing
I posted exactly this before seeing your post. Absolutely spot on and what make the camera amazing for low light static images. It won't work at a concert or gloomy sports stadium, but at a museum or church etc it was a game changer.
Shot and crisp video 👌Thanks for the tips!
Saw one of them today, they are pretty common in my village. The one I spotted was sitting on the snow, plucking I think eurasian jay, then he looked at me with his intimidating gaze (why do their gaze is so intimidating?) and took his breakfast away. I often see them hunting tits, sparrows and even eurasian collared doves. Eurasian sparrowhawks are like tiny hawks :D
Lovely bird if only they stay away from fresh water river as they are doing away with most of the fresh water fish including salmon fry and they are now taking the salmon eggs from the chicken spawning beds
Great works Dennis! Happy New Year to you, cheers.
thanks and same to you 📷😀
Great work. Keep well and keep photographing birds!
thanks, i will and a happy new year to you Richard :)
excellent photos, thank you dennis
Thank you :) appreciated!

Thank you Dennis for this last episode of 2024. Great photos - even the ones with football players in yellow and blue. Looking forward to 2025 episodes 😉

Nice video Dennis. Stunning images .Best wishes for 2025.
Thanks and same to you Roger :)
hi Dennis beautiful photos. You will like the photopro tripod, I have heard good things about it. I am also very curious about the other product you want to show us. I have a vague suspicion, but I won't say anything about it. best wishes for the new coming year 2025. and strength with your health.
Thank you and a happy new year to you also 😁😁
💚💚💚
☺☺☺
@Dennis, All the best with your health for the new year (2025). There is no need to apologise to us for being away. Just take care of your health first.
🙏☺
How do you find the Nikon Z9 compared to the Sony A1. I have both and both have their own strengths and weaknesses in my opinion. Great video, again!
Thanks 🙂 I like the Z9 better overall and thats just my opinion! AF i think is slightly better on A1 for photos and on Z9 in video and of course the weight can be an issue but overall for me the Z9 is the right camera right now 😀 happy new year Richard!
Hi. How are you finding the Nikon Z9 compared to the Sony A1. I have both cameras and both have their own strengths and weaknesses in my opinion.
great video! Om1 which I have as well (with 300f4) did actually a decent job. But it seems better to use TC than to crop in post (especially in poor light). Thank you very much!
Excellent video enjoyed watching ❤🇵🇰🇬🇧🫡
Cute
First of all the comparison is not apples to apples. Yet your comparison methods raises questions. For examples at 3:26 pause and watch the images. Look closely where the goal keeper stands. The Nikon image used shows the Goal Keeper stand much farther from the Goal post, which adds additional Blur (background is far from Subject) where as the OM1 the position of Goal Keeper is close to Goal post compared to Nikon photo. This is visible, if you look closer to the bottom of the Nikon image where you can see the Goal Keeper stands close to the third White line
I want to show the over all difference in these systems and not in each photo. Since the making of this video i have gone semi pro in photographing football and right now its winter and dark so i only have stadium lights to work with and the OM-1 is unusable for pro photos in this condition and also in generel the DOF is not shallow enought no matter where the goal keeper stands with MFT and my agency would let me "go" if i used the OM-1 in the pro matches 😉 here you can see results from Z9 + Z 400mm instagram.com/dhjfoto
I shoot wit the 5R and Sony 200-600. I have the Olympus 1x and the OM-1 with 100-400. The Sony still has better tracking. The 1x and the OM-1 were both improved with tracking which is now usable.
I could ask if you drive a Lamborgini cause its so much faster but you dont cause not in traffic is it? Same usecase for gallerie prints.
There are times where one system is preferred over another but both MFT and FF has its place in this world for sure :) thanks for your comment. BTW do you have a portfolio you can link to and share with me and the people following this channel?
Mistake using Capture and not Workspace, DXO and Topaz. Issue is whether large print m43 looks sharp, noisefree and saturated and answer is resounding yes. Comparing is not useful as both look worse than large format but only subtly, so it’s all down to versatility. I used Nikon and now Om 1mk 2 and still Em 1mk 2 and 3. Nobody, even in gallery sizes, ever referred to I should have done them in larger format as the images are beautiful in m43.
Can I fit in backpack ? leaving base
I donr remeber the exact size when buttom and top are taken of, but it is quite compact 👍🏻😁
Hello Dennis, Jose from Puerto Rico. I currently own the original Olympus OM-1 Mark I. Even though the new OM-1 Mark II came up shortly after the original, I decided not to upgrade. I would like to have your input on the original vs the newer model named OM System if you have upgraded. Would there be a need to upgrade? Having said that, I would like to see if it is possible you can make a video showing the ideal settings you prefer on the original OM-1 and how to set them up. By the way, I subscribed to your channel. My dream camera is of course the Z9, but it is not feasible for me at this moment.
Hi Jose, personally i dont think its worth the upgrade. So im keeping the mark 1 and see what happens in the future 😁 maybe i will do a settings episode some day 🤔 Thanks for your comment 🙏🏻
Awesome mate, I'm just starting into the Nikon system, so good to see your settings and the media you have captured.
So that what it was. Last year I found a bird I haven't seen before and I didn't know what it was on a river, I haven't seen it since but it's nice to know where I can find it again. I do love the White Throated Dipper.
Well done brother🎉🎉
Que calidad de video , que linda ave 😍😍😍
very nice video, thanks for showing. ræve er bare så smukke. we have a fox regularly comming into our garden here in Jutland. I have never seen it in daylight but recorded it with a trail cam. 🙂
Thanks for your comment 😁🙏🏻
Hi my friend Great video you're getting better and better at it, the background sound is perfect, I have a few more places with dippers that you can try! but we can't know if they're there because they move around a lot! See you Dennis 😉
Thanks Christoffer 🙏🏻😁 Tips and locations are always welcome 🎥📷😎
Great video and some fine shots 👍
Thank you FBJSWF 😀
Very enjoyable video Dennis. Some stunning results.
Thanks Roger ☺ super nice to go light sometimes!
Hello from California: Beautiful images. How large can you print from your OM-1?
Thanks 😁 well uncropped the photos are 20MP and super sharp and if you need more Topaz gigapixel can blow it up in super quality 😎 So i guess unlimited if the photos are good enough in IQ ..
This was a very interesting episode, I love that bird! Interesting as I am using Nikon usually and just acquired an OM EM-5 to "test", because it is much lighter than the 200-500mm. You got superb images and footing with the OM-1!
Thanks and i can recommend this gear for sure .. you wont get the soft bokeh as FF with primes but i still looks fantastic 😎 for lowlight action it is not good enough for my use but for stuff like this handheld is SUPER
Thank you for the nice video, Dennis. Greetings Karl-Heinz
Thanks Karl .. appreciated :)
An unusual combination of photographing sports and wildlife. Btw very nice photos.
😂 i know but love to do both and a bit of a gear addict 😏🎥📷 Thanks
Fed video Dennis!👌🤗
Mange tak Allan .. jeg må snart op nordpå og hilse på dig/jer der holder til på de kanter 📷🎥
