The problem with the Queen is that when the Prince was made Reagent, he was given all the business of the country to handle, parliament to deal with and custody of any male heirs. She was given physical custody of the king and the underage daughters. After the daughters were up and out of the house, some of them married (though without the necessary permissions for their children to be considered legitimate), Queen Charlotte literally had nothing official to do except supervise the King's care and wait for him to die. I really think that if she had not gotten physical custody of the King, he would not have lived long. After she died, the King lived about a year before dying himself. When I read that I was suspicious. Just like when Princess Diana died, my first words were "how convenient." I think that young unmarried ladies were only offered lemonade at social events. I think it was designed so they couldn't get drunk and make bad decisions. I think that Penelope drinks champagne as a married woman, even after Pen tells Colin she is pregnant. You notice the first flower Anthony thinks of during charades is lilies.

The only good stories in Season 3 are Pen and Colin’s relationship, LW reveal and Pen’s struggling friendship with Eloise. The other FIVE stories waste of screen time 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️. I fast forward all the waste of screen time stories to Polin and LW. Perhaps that’s why I’ve rewatched Polin screen time over and over again!! We did not get enough of their story at all!! It was a shame they didn’t develop Pen and Lady Danbury’s friendship, Eloise and Pens have Benedict play a supportive role to Colin if they were looking at stories for Season 3.

This is my favorite season so far, simply because I see myself in the leads. I think many of us do--who has not felt they are ignored, disrespected, shunned? Who of us has not suffered from deep loneliness, and tried to adjust to uncomfortable truths about others and ourselves? A tiny rant--this show is historical FANTASY. I know that. But I am too much of a history geek not to twitch at some things. Like this whole idea of someone bequeathing a title to someone else. No. That simply could not happen in the UK any time in the last thousand years. And Marcus Anderson's title makes no sense. Is he "Lord Marcus Anderson" because that means he's the son of a Marquess or an Earl. If he is "Lord Anderson" he is probably a Baron, maybe a Viscount. (I presume the Featheringtons are Barons). It also tickles me that by the end of this season two of Anthony's sisters now outrank him! I really feel sorry for Cressida. Growing up inside a tomb, constantly being told to either be a good little doll or a good little sociopath. The fact she ended up neither is in some ways a wonderful emotional victory. Honestly? I think Benedict and Eloise are the ones who most enjoy the often fractious banter in the Bridgerton household--which is one reason they are the least interested in marriage. Francesca and Colin, however, fit in least. And they are the ones most eager to marry, to find a home for themselves, a life for themselves. Because both are loved by their siblings, but also mostly tolerated rather than revered. Interestingly Benedict and Eloise are the second-born son and daughter, while Colin and Francesca are the third born son and daughter. When Colin hears Penelope say "I love you" the raw fact is he believes her, and he is right. Which reminds him of the equally raw fact (so obviously proven again and again) he loves her. These two will never let each other go. Even in the midst of this dreadful fight, they can barely keep their hands off of each other--and it is also kinda obvious they are both demisexuals (i.e. their sexual desires are linked directly to their emotional involvement--hence Pen balked at marrying Lord Debling, while Colin would rather go talk to Pen instead of continue with a threesome). Honestly, I keep seeing/reading comments about this series which--to me, as a writer--make zero sense. Tell me, how in S2 could they have fit Anthony and Kate's wedding? And what would it have added to the STORY, other than be a very expensive piece of scenery which forced them to cut five or ten minutes from the final episode. What would have you have cut? Because the reality is, these shows have a budge and have a certain number of episodes of a certain length and this is the proverbial IT. Likewise, Colin and Pen have had the hottest sex scenes so far on this show--and two of the longest ones! But you want to remove one of the most important parts of the whole story--the tension threatening to tear apart this couple--just so you can get off on another sex scene? By ripping out the drama of this whole story? Tell me, do you really think if Colin and Penelope saw each other in Episode One, declared their love of each other instantly and then jumped into bed, followed by a long day of sex, then the engagement announcement, followed by more sex scenes, a beautiful wedding, then another sex scene, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD STORY??? Honestly, that doesn't sound like a romance. it sounds like a genre that rhymes with "corn." And if that is what you want, fine. But the makers of this series aren't doing that. They are telling a romantic drama which focuses on love and its complexities, challenges, joys and glories. But some people want to complain about not enough (or too much) sex, and not enough weddings (while complaining S3 had two of them). Wow. I mean--WTF?

Luke Newton KILLED that Whistledown reveal scene!!! I saw an interview where he talked about it- apparently he wasn't originally supposed to cry, but the scene was so emotional that the tears just came of their own accord. The director loved it and asked if he could do it again, and Luke said he honestly didn't think he could do it *without* crying. Also, I am so with you on this wedding! The song(s)! The way he's still kinda mad at her, but even so there is no part of him that doesn't still want to marry her. The way seeing her in the dress absolutely floors him, and his little reassuring nod. The way we can feel the weight of all the years she's been waiting for this as he says his vows to her. His smile as he goes in for their first (official, married) kiss. The dance when everyone else disappears, and the cheek caress at the end! It's all soooo good! I just can't get enough of Polin!

I love that you see that Colin has insecurities that he's working through. Too many people miss that, and are therefore a lot harsher on him than is warranted. Colin is such a sweetheart! I just love seeing him in caring, protective, doting husband mode. It's just ::chef's kiss:: I need a Colin in my life (and if he looked like Luke Newton, I wouldn't complain 😍) A quick note on the "distance" between them in the mirror scene- I don't know if you were referencing other moments as well, but in the moment you showed us, it's not distance but angle. It's only his upper body that is far away from her. And I've heard multiple people comment on how that angle is... a good thing... fwiw

Hey! I know I'm a few months late to the party, but I'm really enjoying your reactions! I was bummed that episode 3 got copyright stricken, because that's one of my favorites! I love seeing Colin in love and all cute and awkward! I haven't read the books, but I do know they differ from the show in a few significant ways. And I actually think his rake era makes sense for show Colin. He was always the sweet, naive, romantic, enthusiastic one among his brothers- he didn't even want to kiss Marina before the wedding. But he also spent the first two seasons being taken advantage of (Marina, Jack Featherington, etc) or mocked (mostly by his family) for those very qualities. So having had the message drilled into him that who he was simply wasn't good enough (he repeatedly refers to himself as a fool, especially in season 2), and then with Penelope no longer in his life to pull him back from the edge with her love and acceptance, it makes sense that he came back different. Trying to be the man society wants/expects him to be... a rake like his brothers. But while they genuinely enjoyed that lifestyle, Colin never really did. In his journal he talks about the distance he feels, even in the most intimate scenarios. He tries to be real with those jerks he calls friends, talking about how lonely this pretense makes him feel. And the fact that everyone seems to prefer this persona he's put on only enhances his feelings of emptiness and loneliness, further proving to him that no one wants the real him. Which just makes the love story with Pen all the sweeter! Because she's the one who saw and loved who he really was all along. They're both on similar journeys this season. Both loving the other desperately, and thinking they are out of their league. Both learning that who they are is worthy of love, even the parts that society doesn't accept. It's my absolute favorite season so far! I can't wait to finish watching it with you!!

I think some folks don't understand that Colin and Penelope have to follow a very different trajectory than all previous seasons because they ALREADY KNOW EACH OTHER. So the primary tension of them falling in love has already happened. It is simply a matter of breaking down the barriers. So another major source of tension must exist--and does, in the form of Lady Whistledown. Likewise, it seems to me this season is setting up future seasons rather a lot. Partly because this season is dealing with a couple already deeply in love and we know they are going to end up together, without any doubt.

Something I have figured out about Colin--he is a man who longs for connection, for intimacy. When I saw this, I kept wondering "why two women?" I think he's trying to somehow see if he has two partners at the same time if this will somehow help him finally feel really satisfied. Because in this diary that Pen read, he is clearly unhappy at how physical intimacy does not go hand in hand AT ALL with emotional intimacy. So he tried to make the physical intimacy more intense. But at the end of this episode, he finally did something vital. In his heart of hearts, deep in his brain and in his blood, he moved Penelope out of the category of "sister." After that, suddenly and to his extreme disorientation (but eventual JOY) he figures out everything he desires in life he already has--if only she feels the same way. BTW the actor who plays Albion Finch evidently believes he was waiting for consent. In other words, he was waiting for an invitation for third base but Phillipa doesn't know third base exists. Honestly the Featherington girls all end up with really wonderful, kind husbands.

The way you edited brought something very interesting into realization for me. It's how this early part of the episode shows two courting couples. But they are very different in how they interact based on the "overt romance"❤ of their relationship.. Here's John & Francesca, engaged (although not announced quite yet), sitting on seats ACROSS from each other!! And they're being barely supervised by the rest of her family near. 😄 Then there's Colin calling on Penelope, where when he sees how closely he's being watched, gets EVEN CLOSER all up on her.😂

Do you make a point when it comes to those intimate/ love making scene ! My niece been listening to the audiobook for almost 2 weeks now, and this particular scene in the book Penelope and Colin is in the bed! Wonder why they did not keep the bed scene based of the book 📕 version !

They jammed in way too much into the last scene that made everyone really mad. Yes, people are complaining.

Luke is showed a lot of Colin’s emotions and feelings and thoughts with his eyes and facial expressions Colin is a much more complex character than Anthony and I don’t know who’s else could’ve played this but LUKE He was beyond perfect for the role

I think we are all Penelope. In a way. This is a fantasy for everyone who believes in their heart of hearts love is not for them, that they are too strange, too different, that they have the wrong body or the wrong personality or the wrong background. We are all Cyrano de Bergerac, all Brienne of Tarth, all Luna Lovegood, all Lieutenant Barclay...just as we are all Penelope Featherington. Sooner or later.
