Let's face it. Graphics reached their peak last gen. Do the current gen consoles have anything going for them other than faster loading times?

Imo the 9th gen started with the Switch.

Nothing to do with generation of consoles, to be honest the PS4 and the Xbox One would both play the majority of todays games with minor graphical differences, the vision of what we were sold was not what we received nor was the capabilities of the console, I would go as far as saying it was a ripoff by Microsoft and Sony on the consumer selling us upgraded consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox X/S & S in the first place. Microsoft are only drawn the lifecycle of the current generation of consoles by incremental upgrades, until they make the move into cloud gaming without the console requirement and perhaps a small set top box and sell us tiered Nvidia graphics subscriptions with Xbox Cloud Game Pass. Sony don’t have the infrastructure that Microsoft have globally and we’ll be incapable of providing a Cloud gaming experience and will continue manufacturing PlayStation consoles for as long as they can along with Nintendo.

NGL, but back before christmas of 2020 I've always wanted to get a ps5 at the time but unfortunately because of covid, scalpers, and how jim ryan pretty much destroyed the Playstation brand, I've decided to just get a switch oled instead and even that just barely helped. If anything, this makes me glad that i collect retro games because now i kind of have a bigger library of older games rather than newer games that will only tend to grow rapidly in whatever way possible, todays games now suck which is just plain sad

This video sums up why I play my Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, and GameCube more than my Nintendo Switch and PS5. It also perfectly sums up why I expect retro gaming to increase in the future. Current generation gaming is notorious for the following aspects: 1. Increase of anti-consumer practices from game companies (microtransactions, making games unplayable without additional payments of subscriptions and/or an internet connection, etc.) 2. Too many remasters and remakes of games from older generations 3. Very miniscule amounts of console based exclusives on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X because companies would rather make more cross-gen games to scoop up extra profits, which gives gamers less reasons to upgrade to the current gen consoles. So basically, if you upgrade from previous gen to current gen and your favorite games for the current gen have versions for previous gen systems, you basically got played and are left to regret spending extra money upgrading consoles.

This generation could have been as bad as Nintendo's Wii-U, that had no Mario/Wario or Zelda and other unique games Nintendo has.Thankfully, its not there.....yet thx to some games.

I cant see myself getting the next ps6. or staying in the ecosystem, despite the vast game library. the multiplayer fee, price hikes and general sony douchyness turned me off completely. their GAAS gamble is such a massive miscalculations too.

Even through this isn't the perfect game I strongly believe that we need to make Stellar Blade win game of the year (GOTY) Why? The add attractive looking character in the game, something that western developers refuse to do. This game has been receiving knockback by people that don`t like the game coz of the way Eve looks (which is bloody stupid) but despite that the game has been successful. Kim Hung Tae has done an amazing job with this game, him and the team has put so much effort into the game like the lip sick between the English and the Korean version are completely different. And remember, they didn`t have to do this. They have been giving out free DLCs. They have given us over 30 outfits, what other game does that? The fact they made a hack & slash game in my eyes (which has been in the decline for some years now) is amazing. This if their first time making a console game and for the most part it`s a sucsess. They didn`t just make a boring souls-like, they mixed it up with hack & slash elements, bringing people they like those genres to their game which was very smart of them. For the most part, they listen to want the fans want/ask for. I know people want to choose other games to win GOTY however if you do, nothing will change and no statement will be made. We need to make a statement to developers that what Shift Up are doing is what we want in videogames. Now if you don`t like Stellar blade that`s understandable however if you do I ask you to choose Stellar Blade for GOTY. If you want game developers to buck up their ideas Stellar Blade needs to win it. Also you mentioned hack & slash games, so since you mentioned that. Most of the budget goes to marketing. It’s the main reason why the games look and play like shit even when they are remakes.

Besides the smaller indie games I've reverted back to older titles and even bought a wii again to play those great party games and older gamecube titles.

They just need to make games exclusive, problem is most 3rd party companies want their games ported to all platforms.

It's been years and my main complaint is that there are so many sequels, but where are brand new titles? I just looked at PS4 and PS5 games and most of available games are just newer version of older franchise or some cheap POS games.

Man games we're just about blowing the cartrige and turning on the system...

Having a tight budget forced me to get a console if I wanted to play new games, but now…. No new games💀

One thing that really has to go in this day n age, games exclusive to a platform. It serves no purpose but makes developers miss out on sales. And all for what? To create an incentive to buy a console? A console that is pretty much a pc (aside from nitendo) just not running windows? In the end it´s highly irrelevant if someone plays your game on a xbox, ps, pc, switch or streams it... the only relevant thing is how many copies you sold.

I get a pitiful amount of money a month, and I wanted to get a game console for my daughter. She wanted a PS5, but the only one that looks anyway decent is the Switch lol.

I disagree that the game isn't special. This is about as clean from woke social justice and greed as you can get. The focus of the devs was to make a beautiful game inspired by Nier. They 100% nailed it. This game is total pure fun. My opinion of course, but we need way more of these games than less. I'll pay top dollar for more of this than EA or Ubisoft crap. Well , it didn't suck all together unless you where playing xbox only ! 😂😂. But yeah , the quality and games are definitely getting worse and worse especially with all this constant agenda bs being put in games ! Constant updates changing the game or just not shipping with the full game on the physical copy like ubsoft is doing and I'm tired of it ! The end of enjoyment and enjoying games is coming to an end at this point if it keeps up .

Game is great, I do love this game. Still I think the story as long as good still it's wasting lore and worldbuilding with is much better. Also I think the perfect parry and perfect dodge depedence was wrong design decision for this game.

Cannot agree more on the game that delivers a good gameplay part. Nowadays there are too many game that tries to deliver too many other stuff rather than a fun game by its core.

Okay, games being $300 mil+, it makes sense that games are becoming more expensive. I just feel like the increase would be welcomed if we weren’t getting incomplete games at launch. 2-3 patches later and there are still problems with these games, I don’t want to spend $70 on a game that is still buggy 6 months after it’s release. I now understand the price increase but it should be met with higher standards and more complete games from publishers.

Funnily enough, the most underpowered system seems to have trumped these two "titans" with its more consistent release schedule and quality games. Am I bitter than these two systems I bought for several hundred dollars still sitting there with little new support? Yeah. I won't deny that. This gen has really been bad for both Microsoft and Sony.
