Thank you for this tutorial and also for explaining the reasons for certain techniques! This helps a lot
Invest in the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers. They're a life saver. After sewing your strips, use the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer and cut them out. Then cut off the tabs and your done. Cutting AND squaring up at the same time. It saves me loads of time.
My band pattern piece says to cut 2 but I’m pretty sure that’s a typo, correct?
I'm so lost! No audio. No instructions. Is that a panel or something you pieced? What the heck is a cheater quilt? What the heck am I missing? ( Besides a few minutes out of my life and maybe a couple brain cells!)
Just made this today, it was so easy and fun to make, thanks for sharing.
This video stopped me from getting one of those collapsible tables. I’ve been using my idea collapsible dining table and keep my machine in the top rack of my rolling cart and then put that in the storage closet. Saved me like $200. ❤ this game me some great ideas on how to use what I have and maximize my apt space!
For over 55 years of marriage, I did not have a dedicated sewing space. I now have that space and treasure it. I’ve made beautiful garments off my dining room table. It’s all doable. Great video. 💚
Lol every time I scrub my floors it rains and the dogs race inside with wet muddy paws (living on a farm) on my beautiful shiny floors 😢😢 Every. Saturday. 😂😂
Thank you, great video
Sew many good ideas. Inside a drawer I have an old foam ring display from a jewellers. It holds my sewing machine feet . Resting inside the drawer is the change drawer from a cash box. Luckily just the right size so I can slide it towards the back when I need to get my feet.sewing machine ones 🤣🤣🤣
I love your organization skills.
For the last twenty years or so, I have been using a tackle box to keep a lot of my notions. There are various sizes of tackle boxes, so this works great. For most of what I sew, I actually iron on my chest freezer. It is a big one and we have it on dollies, which raises the height a little. A folded towel helps protect the freezer surface, although I also have a small fold-up mat that I try to keep the ironing on for added protection. If you have a large quantity of fabric that will drape over the edges (like a maxi skirt or a large length of yardage you want to iron before you cut it) I prefer my standup ironing board, but otherwise it does the trick. I do want to invest or buy a tailor's ham, and I think if I had a length of that wool mat I could cut to the size of my freezer's top, that would greatly enhance its usefulness.
My space saving things for those of you who have toddlers: I have a soft mat that connects as squares on the kitchen floor, about 5x7 feet, so my toddler can crash on the floor safely. I decided to use this to my advantage. Yes, I cut and trace things out of the floor, but I’m using the mat to pin fabric to when my toddler is sleeping. I also slip my cutting mat underneath, and no one sees or plays with it all day, until I pull it out to use. My next tip is a fabric mat to sew on. There are good patterns on Etsy that show these multi-layered fabric mats, with a side pocket hanging down. I made my mat about the length of my table and 1/2 the width. I made multiple pockets that hangs down off the mat to my own personalization (it is L shaped and one side hangs off the mat. I put all essential sewing items in this part with my sewing machine on top. Then when I’m done with it, I take off my machine and the mat folds up perfectly into a rolled-up mat, I clip either end so it doesn’t unroll, with all your essential supplies hiding inside. The pockets double for a safe space for sharp objects your toddler won’t see: needles, scissors, and rotary cutters. All you have to do is add Velcro to top of pockets to close them. I made my fabric mat 3 layers thick and it is nice and heavy to hold all the supplies off the table in pockets. You can also sew a little bin off the side of the mat near where you sew for scraps and thread. It will also fold right up with your mat. -I took a magnetic pin holder and used detachable 3M tape to attach it to my sewing machine, so I have a space for all my pins to be while I’m sewing and I don’t have to worry about my toddler finding them. The pin magnet stays with my machine at all times, but I can pull it off if necessary. So now I just have to pull out my machine and mat, and bring it to the kitchen where the floor mat is with my cutting mat hiding underneath. I keep all my fabric in a tote and extra supplies I don’t use regularly in another tote, in a closet. It isn’t ideal, but it does work well when you have a small space with a toddler.
I have never had a dedicated space for sewing/crafting. I have used a TV tray to put my sewing & overlocker on to sew when I lived in a 1 bedroom apt in my younger years with no kitchen table. Currently I have a husky adjustable workstation in my bedroom which is my work from home (1 day a week desk, sewing & crafting desk. 1 drawer is for sewing tools, the other is for office supplies & I have a power strip attached to the side for all my power needs. I use magnetic hooks for my acrylic rulers & a caddy that attaches to my desk for quick access sewing & writing utensils. My sewing machine (Bernina B590) is stored in a closet. I have two crop n store totes on wheels (scrapbooking totes) the XXL stores my overlocker & the other stores my additional sewing notions in stackable snapware containers. My thread is stored on a shelf in a closet in Sulky containers as well as Artbin for my overlocker & embroidery thread. My Stellaire embroidery machine is stored in its luggage in the guest bedroom closet with all my hoops (Dime magnetic ones) in the luggage. My bobbins are also in artbin in the luggage. I have 6 large Olfa cutting mats that are stored under my bed in the original packaging along with all my other mats. I tape my Olfa mats together on the dining room table to cut large garment projects, the kitchen island for smaller projects & my husky desk for even smaller cutting needs. I have a Polder ironing board I use with my Rowenta SteamForce iron for my big needs. I have a wool mat & Oliso mini iron for my small needs that can sit on a silicone mat next to my Bernina. Finally I have a cedar chest in my bedroom for my fabric stash & an armoire for overflow, to do mending projects & finished items I’m selling.
Rotate your fabric!!! Great tip!!!
🌷Liked and subscribed from North Pole Alaska here 😊
I made a small ironing station out of a tv tray table. I used Insulbrite and colorful outdoor duck fabric
I have been trying to figure out my new small sewing space - I mean like 6 months on You Tube - trying to figure it out!! Watching this video gave me so many ideas - I love the Host's calm and organized way she presents the option - subscribed to this channel - OH Yes!!!
These are some great ideas. Thank you for sharing this video. I love the little caddy from Target. "You don't have to buy anything fancy from a sewing craft store". So true! Hi to you from Kingston, Jamaica. 🙂
Thank you so much! I love hearing your thoughts :)
@@CoralCoModernSewing I am a newbie sewist and I'm having fun with it but space is really a challenge. I'm doing my cutting on the dining table so it's not idea. Your video has given me quite a few ideas. I hadn't considered a cutting table that folds! I'm going to see if I can afford to get one of those. Thanks, Shelly. 🙂
I had no trouble finding the pattern great easy project for this first time grandma in September 24 ❤
Oh. Congratulations 🎊!! First time grandma here on March the 12th. You will experienced the best feeling ever.
Cute! So dainty looking when it's that small. Have you tried mini amigurumi? It's adorable lol
No but I want to. That is up next on my todo list. I’m trying to find good hooks right now.
Perfect tutorial - no unnecessary fluff or introductions. Thank you!
Thank you!
Do you have any other social media account other than UA-cam channel? So i can follow you there too.
Hi! Yes I am on Instagram at @coral__and__co
How do you do this with a 6 and half strip.
There is a formula in the corresponding blog post that should help. Just follow the link :)
Gente pra que serve isso? ainda não consegui a utilidades desse treco.
Haha it’s for baby spit up
Very beautiful😊
Thanks a lot 😊
It looks so cute!! 🥰
Thank you! 😊
First! 😊
Second!
I too have a small space (my dining room) I have a small desk off to the side for my piecing station but when it’s time to machine quilt, I pull the dining room table flush with the desk so my quilt has room to spread out and not drag towards the floor. I use a see through plastic stackable drawer system from Amazon to store all of my threads to keep them dust free but visible for selection. I use see-through stackable cases to store individual projects on-the-go. Someday I hope to actually have a separate room to spread out but this works great for me now ☺️
That is such a great idea to pull the two tables together.
I also feel inspired by seeing the beautiful fabrics and favorite tools and stuff. Unfortunately, so do my cats! 😸 So I put fabric into clear acrylic containers. They're cat-proof and I can still see them.
Oh no! At least it keeps dust off your fabric too.
Thank you for making a video for people with almost no dedicated space for sewing. Almost no videos out there actually show how to work with a limited and transient space. Most are showing a more permanent space, and more often an entire room. Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I agree it is hard to find useful information about sewing in a non permanent space but I think that is how the majority of people sew. Kitchen table sewing is my favorite!
My sewing space is the smallest bedroom in our house. I love it! It’s tiny but I manage. Sewing machine table from thrift store and cutting table is folding table from Walmart. I have 2 pieces of furniture with shelves to arrange things on . Also under cutting table I can store my scrap fabric and my tracing paper scraps. I have round tall plastic container for my interfacing & roll of tracing paper. My sewing room really needs a good cleaning and decluttering but it will just have to wait.
I love that you have a place you can go to spend time sewing even if it is tiny! I honestly don’t think you really need a big space. Just a little place to go and sew the day away.
What are the odds, I just ordered a sewing machine the other day and was worried because I have no space for it. But I'm determined enough to make it work. Thanks for the tips!
I love this! I think having a sewing room is overrated. It is much more fun to sew in the middle of where everything happens in the house.
I have a $40 folding table that also raises and lowers from Home depot. my large cutting matt lives on it. i can lower the table to sew, or raise it when i have a lot of cutting to do. I also have a small 3 shelf wire rack on wheels that holds my notions and the top is used as an ironing station or another cutting area.its really helped me out. thank you for all of the ideas!
These are all such great ideas. I love the table that raises and lowers. That is super handy. My three tier cart makes moving everything so easy.
Hi. Just found your channel. I have hit the like button and subscribe. Very useful video for a small or big sewing area. My sewing space is an area in my small living room but it works. I have my cutting mat hanging on wall and rulers. I am going to give you oven mitt video a go. We need a new one so why buy one when I can make it (hopefully Lol) . Thank you and have a nice day.
Thank you so much! I think sewing in the kitchen or living room are the best places because you are around everyone.
Thank you! You always are helpful and a sweet person.
omg! You just made my day.. Thank you so much for the kind words <3
Thank you❤

Love this video, what is the name of the elastic thread you are using in your video?, Your info takes you to Amazon and a maxi lock stretch thread, is that alright?
yes that is correct.
You saved my life! Wow awesome video and exactly what I needed 😅
You are so welcome! I am glad I could help <3
This is so smart! Thank you
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this pattern. I have just guided one of the young teenagers I mentor in sewing, in making three of these, following your instructions. She will present them, filled with sweet treats I think, Christmas morning to her grandparents and her dad. Ace. Thank you 🙂
Thank you! I am so glad it could help.
Sorry but the echo is uncomfortable. You should use a microphone.
Thank you for the feedback. I am but unfortunately it could be better. Working on upgrading that now.
Thank you ! Looks easy - is that a 1/4" seam allowance that you use to sew the little block neighbors together ?
Yes I use 1/4" seam allowance :)
I love your tutorial and pattern. So easy to follow and find the pattern to print.
Thank you so much!
Hello. The link to the pattern didn’t work. Where can I find the pattern? Thanks ❤
www.coralandco.com/blog/free-oven-mitt-pattern.html. There was a broken link. I apologize.
The toe part is too long,it does not look good.wasted some good fabric.
Your pattern has a bow. How is it attached to the hat? I see some tutorials make two button holes and pull the fabric through to form a bow.
It is sewn on by hand after making it.
Thank you so much. I made my very first baby blanket today. I am a new nanny and I wanted to make something special so thank you so much for your great idea for a baby blanket.
thank you so much for the kind words!
Wow.... that's an excellent tutorial! Thanks so much for sharing your valuable know how! 💕
Thank you so much!
