The most important thing about scuba diving is that you do it safely. And that is what Safe Diving is all about.
On this channel, I will discuss all aspects of going underwater from equipment advice and techniques to the little things like what to pack in your bags for a dive trip.
My entire professional career has been spent in and around the scuba diving industry and travelling to diving destinations both warm and cold.

    All while watching this movie, I, a non-diver, was just constantly laughing at how wrong these situations were. The silt settling in minutes, the whirlpool, no flippers (fins). Just that alone, excluding all the terrible shark nonsense, drive me batty. This movie would have been a good crocodile movie instead of sharks. But nooo, they wanted to make The Descent but with sharks.

    I dove twins years ago. When I was young and stronger. Before we had twin outlet manifolds. I agree with your reasons. I hate to admit even about it looks cool. I use to mount a pony cylinder between my twins. Now that really looked cool. Think Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

    When I checked I find them a tad pricey, a specially the Perdix, even though I believe you get your money’s worth, but 13 and a half thousand Swedish kroner for the Perdix2, that’s 975 + Pounds in today’s exchange rate, is a lot of money. Then again, no one said scuba diving was inexpensive😂

    Tried it. Didn't like it. This was never intended to be used in open water. The original lesson plan called for tank valves to be hung on bungees. This didn't work for deep water entries and after several fatalities, a hard point mount was added. Plus no redundancy, what you wind up with are independent singles which is pretty dicey in a cave. I will say sidemount is excellent for mounting stages. If you use a bungee and ring system, the stages ride right beside your body and can be pulled down to deploy or to check the valves.

    I would say a properly fitted harness will ease somewhat the burden of moving a twinset around. Proper fitting doesn't make them light, but it is surprising how much more comfortable they seem.

    Back in the early 1980's thigh pockets were very popular. The Dive Shop I worked at we sold a lot custom wet suits and they almost always had at least 1 thigh pocket. There wasn't as large a variety of wet suit sizes back then. Many people would buy the pockets and glue on themselves. I really like the Apek and Mares shorts. But, they are way overpriced. Dive Gear Express sales a pair that is less expensive. But now that shorts with pockets are popular. They are more expensive than they use to be as well.

    Twin 12s are bloody heavy - I just got mine back from servicing and after carrying them, I picked up my 15L cylinder and almost threw it up in the air! Great for deep dives, but I think the 'benefit' of not 'faffing' between dives is vastly outweighed by the con of all that weight. Underwater, of course, you barely notice them!

    Hi there. Bought myself a mares xr back plate wing system bcd. Never used one before. Will it be tricky to use the first time ? Going to dive at florida Keys in July. Would you recommend using a wetsuit or just a rashguard. By the way, Thank you for all the helpful videos. Always watching from my side. Thank you kindly

    • @SafeDiving
      @SafeDiving 7 місяців тому

      Hi! I'd keep to simple dives with new gear so that you can focus on the new gear. In the water you probably won't notice much of a difference. With new BCDs I take extra care on ascent so I have plenty of time to dump gas. As far as exposure protection, it depends on how much you feel the cold. Too much is usually better than not enough and most divers seem to use a 3mm unless they're diving deep or long dives or in colder northern waters and need something thicker. In warmer waters some divers are good in just a rash vest. I tend to test the water on dive #1 in a wetsuit and assess if I need it for dive #2

      Everyone has different buoyancy characteristics, but that sounds like an enormous amount of weight. Have you adjusted much since you left this message? For reference, my description is similar to yours: 175cm, 80kg, 7mm suit, and a steel tank. I carry 5kg (11lbs) in freshwater, and I'm fairly confident that I'm still a bit overweighted.
