    If you google-----Bus talk Acf-Brill Continental, an article pops up about the bus under their baseball buses section. A man commented that he had a chance to buy it at a dealer outside of Wichita. He let it go due to potential problems getting Hall-Scott engine parts. His entry was about 2 years ago. If someone could contact him and find out the location of that dealer, maybe someone there would have knowledge of who bought it or where it went. Definitely a long shot, but it could be behind somebody's barn still.

    Hey William, my name is Dewayne I am looking for anyone who knows what I have that I purchased a few years back and still have today. If I could figure out how to send you a picture I'll send you a picture. It is an old bus from the 40's or 50's that looks very similar to the Brill C-37-M but has some different characteristics to it. The bus has a REO emblem on the front but it is not original to the bus. It has ridged trim on the sides under the windows and about a foot to 18 inches from the bottom. It has the little back door on the side (driver's side) and a compartment on the bottom of the driver's side behind the front wheel.

    If, the engine is repaired and put into a working Bus? That it would be better. Although projects are exspensive.

    I've been hearing it more as I've gotten older, motion is lotion. As you stop moving as much, you get stiffer, and it is more painful to move. It is ESSENTIAL to maintain flexibility, and movement, along with strength training! I still think you win the prize for coolest living room.

    Imagine that with a slightly different combustion chamber design, maybe larger titanium valves, some port work, just stuff and average person can do, nothing crazy. A 750 Holley carb, lighter pistons, so the crank can be lighter, raise the compression to 9:1 or 10:1, or maybe 8.5:1 and add a turbo! Run about 14psi at a 3600-4k redline, regrind the cam, and have some beehive springs and retainers made, it could possibly rev to 4500 rpm, work on the exhaust side a bit, those long runners will put the power band at about 500 rpm to 1500, a new intake would need to be built, 8" similar runners going into a large plenum with a box for the carb, a triangle shaped plenum, with the car box bolting on to make it look similar to the original, to have the original look to it, with the turbo mounted above the head, with a inter cooler mounted over the engine block, without boost I believe 300 HP is possible, and with boost near 600, but the TQ is the real story! I figured if peak boost peak boost at peak TQ can be tuned, the TQ numbers can be 4-5 times the stock numbers, well in the 4digits very possible, I'd love to try converting a 2 stroke Detroit diesel to gasoline, have larger valves fitted, with better springs, and a can ground and possibly a variable cam timing, to allow the turbo to build the most pressure possible, I believe a aluminum head could be cast fairly easy, with it being nearly a solid billet of aluminum, give it a in head combustion chamber to compliment the piston chambers, dropping the compression to a gas tolerable compression ratio, about 9:1 with mount two injectors per cylinder at the bottom of the bore, to spray fuel into the cylinder, use two injectors to get a more fine injection of fuel more spread out. Vaporized more easily, modified valve cover, to allow spark plugs to be mounted and accessed through the valve cover, with a new one made, with Detroit engineering in place of diesel , maybe if a new head is made, go for multiple plugs per cylinder, maybe 3 but likely 2 per cylinder, maybe some testing can be done to have each ignition milliseconds after the other to get different combustion to happen, a 4-71 , 6-71 would be a good starting point!

      I'd personally rather keep these Hall Scott engines the way that they came from the factory. They're incredibly rare and not many people even know that they exist.

      these engines were designed as work horse, not race champions, they are endurance engines that can be run at full throttle all the service time.

    Someone came to a campout in a former Santa Fe transport bus they turned into a beautiful RV that was powered by one of these. It had been rebuilt sometime in the 70's by Crown coach in southern california. I do remember his being a DOHC setup though, had two cam drive shafts and it idled very low, in the 300 RPM range. May have been a different engine from the same company. He told me the company also did marine engines during the war. Really interesting engine.

    • @SquishyZoran
      @SquishyZoran Рік тому

      That must have been super rare because I have a book that says many of the gassers in the Crowns were replaced with diesels in the 70s and it showed a bunch of engines in a pile for scraping

    • @Oldbmwr100rs
      @Oldbmwr100rs Рік тому

      @@SquishyZoran Now he said it was a Packard engine, and it had a dual cam setup. The bus was from the mid/late 40's so it may have been a different engine, but it was really interesting bus to check out. I thought H-S engine, but like I said, he told me it was originally a marine engine design, owned by Packard, but who knows. it wasn't a large bus either, sort of a little smaller then average, made for taking people between train stations. But really cool none the less.

    Hi William,, Thanks for putting this together as I found it rather interesting. My grandfather and Charles became good friends while at the University of Washington. I recall the family stories of Perelle, his work at Hughes and on the Hercules. I also heard stories of the challenges in working with Howard Hughes that resulted in Charles leaving and the big lawsuit. Thanks again.

    • @billnelson364
      @billnelson364 Рік тому

      You are welcome. My grandfather worked with him for many years. There is an article about him in Time magazine in the early 1950's that I referred to in several of my videos about ACF-Brill. It was called "Rescue Man". He was a brilliant production man. After Brills, he took over American Bosch Arma making aircraft parts. Where ever he went, he settled down and spotted parts of the organization that could not be adjusted to make money. Then he looked to see the best way to bend things to produce products efficiently and profitably. Yours----Bill
