It is a shame that the leading Swiss engineers who were the first to develop the supercritical wing profiles were unable to achieve commercial success, because the government got cold feet because of two crashes of the military prototypes. Mr Lear immediately recognized this and acquired the patents and construction details. Well done Bill! - It took a few decades before Switzerland was able to (re-)build a successful aircraft industry again with Pilatus. And the Pilatus 21 and 24 were able to set milestones again.

My first ride in an aircraft was in an RC-3 and the age of seven/eight (1955/56). I'm 76 now and acquired my seaplane rating in 1982 flying out of Great Pond in Belgrade Lakes, Maine (of On Golden Pond fame) fourteen years after my privates in 1968. Spent my years renting a 172 on floats from Twitchells SPB in Turner Maine. Being a Maine resident there were seldom situations where there was no water below thus Maine is a seaplane aviator's hunting/fishing paradise. Today as do so many, I still have a heart for this wonderful odd looking but beautiful airplane and the fond memories that launched my entry into civil and military aviation.

There were almost twice as many 172s built and yet there are half as many on the market- and before you try and get smart the crash data shows that accidents and airframe losses are almost twice as high in a 182 vs a 172. That should tell you everything you need to know about which Cessna is best.

ya missed the Christen Eagle in your history of kit built aircraft ,The Eagle kit was revolutionary in home built aircraft . it was such a complete kit that the boxes the parts were shipped in had box cutters on the outside to open them. you could be locked in your workshop withe kit and when you came out would have a completly finished airplane all that was needed extra was a battery. Google "Christen Eagle "

A gas turbine (as in a turbojet or turbofan) is a *combustion* engine. What did you think the fuel did in the combustion chambers? A gas turbine - in its normal form such as used in aircraft - is even an _internal_ combustion engine, because the combustion in inside the engine, in the working fluid (air) flow. A gas turbine engine is not a *piston* engine, which is the term which should have been used. The difference is that combustion is continuous in a turbine engine, and inherently interrupted in a piston engine.

It is a shame that it does not have the range of the DA 62. Then they would have an awesome aircraft, with also a pressurised cabin to take it to 30,000ft and a 5 bladed propeller. This to give it range and speed.

Not worth the money. Like someone said a person can buy a L-29 or L-39. The L-29 can be re-engined with a more powerful engine. While the jets are classified as “EXPERIMENTAL” they are a proven design and many of them are out there burning up the airways on the weekends. I’d much rather have an L-39!

Nice aircraft. The only downside for me is pneumatic boots on the air intakes of all things. It’s a pity it did not have enough bleed air to heat them like the wings or enough electrical power to heat them like the canard leading edge. It seems odd. I can just visualise the boots breaking off chunks of ice in bad icing and getting sucked in despite the inertial separators. But.. no such incidents have happened in its career so it obviously works just fine. The fully enclosed toilet compartment is a real winner. The starship was innovative but thats it, it was a total disaster for maintenance and costs. Even though it was made out of composites v Avanti’s aluminium it was not as fast nor had the same range even with bigger engines. Nah, the Avanti wins hands down.

I've known Dan and Scott since the late 90's and got to watch them build the very first Viperjet to the last Viperjet. I got to see (never talked to him) one of their customers, who was a prince from Saudi Arabia. He showed up in a beautiful Citation X. Anyway, the latest Viperjet (the bronze/gold and black color) was actually built for the prince, but they sold it as he opted out due to the time and rising price plus some tech issues with the flying characteristics. The color was based on the SSC, Shelby Super Car, which is built in Richland, Washington, and at one point held the record for the fastest super car in the world. Now known as the SSC Tutautara. Anyway, the Viperjet cost was actually closer to $900K-$1.3mil to build. Dan and Scott stopped producing the Viperjet and started a building assist company for the Viperjet owners, called Zero Gravity, and moved their operations from Pasco to Richland. They did this for a few years before selling that business and got into making custom parts for the AR-15. Last time I talked to Dan, that company is still going strong but with one less person to help run it. Dan lost his brother Scott back in April of 2022 due to an illness. Those two guys were a great bunch to hang with, and to watch them build the Viperjet was nothing short of just awesomeness.
