“The Pent Up Angler”. Hi! I’m happy to welcome you to my channel. Initially this was a simple idea to share a few fishing adventures with my elderly parents. Well, at least enough of you have enjoyed the action and have subscribed, so I have been motivated by you to make more videos and share as much information as I can.
I’m a long, lost Cajun from Lafayette, Louisiana. I moved away for Grad School at age 21 - thinking it would be two years & back home to Cajun land very quickly. Oops…life and work took me away for 30 years! I missed fishing every single day of those 30 years! I was a collegiate tennis coach and still love coaching and teaching, but now I’m so happy to be fishing & camping & exploring all of the beautiful nature in & around the coast of Louisiana & elsewhere. Hence the name of the channel.
First trout caught at age 51. Since then it’s been non-stop. Amen.
Thanks for watching & I hope you enjoy.

Some days are just blooper filled haha. You got some great catches though. Finding that one in the mud that had just got away was pretty lucky. That was cool to see. Happy New Years!
@@Eightmile_Drifter Indeed. A cool experience. Happy New Years!
Wore em out in Dulac this day. That red made a run for it, and knocked himself out under the kayak looks like. Always fun to watch the bloopers, part of the fun looking back. That flounder was lucky for sure, massive one. Been awhile since I ate a flounder, would love to go catch some. Another great video, keep em coming
Thanks a lot. Yes bloopers actually make for a much more fun (and realistic) video! Happy New Year! Cheers.
Bravo sir.....
@ Thank you! Some unique ones in there. Should have netted that darn thing when it gave me a 2nd chance. Happy New Year!
Enjoying your narrow trenasse redfish technique.
Thanks a lot Pat! Been some fun days recently for sure. That kayak allows for some access to good spots. Hope you’re doing well. More soon. Cheers!
Love the quick hook sets!!! Keep dominating out there PUA!!!
Haha! Still much faster than the old forehand I’m afraid. Man that’s fun stuff when you see them right in front of you and can tell when they are about to take it. Hope all is well and y’all had a Merry Christmas! Thanks for the card. Awesome family!! Keep your lefty hook set ready to go!! Gonna happen.
👍👍
Love it! Getting out there on the kayak tomorrow.
@@HatzoffOutdoors Hope you found them and a great day! I’m anxious to get back down there. Cheers!
Joyeux Noël et bonne année !
Merci Beaucoup! And same to you my friend. Cheers!!
Awesome video! fishing the shallows in the winter is fun as long as the water doesn't fall out too much. That fish you missed and then hooked almost under the boat was great. Redfish are a strange fish. Sometimes you can't spook them away and sometimes they are so spooky they will not touch anything.
Summed it up. Part of what makes it so fun… never quite know how those fish will react. That last catch was one of my most enjoyable in a long time. Cooperated nicely!! Haha. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Nice video, those were some good sized flounder!
Thanks! So fun mixing in some flounder with those reds. That hard mouth makes for a solid feeling bite. Hope more ahead. Cheers!
How many boulettes you think he would make??
Hahaha!! That’s a classic comment. Too funny. Boulettes for a year! I’ll stick with Ms. Diana’s shrimp boulettes for sure. Cheers buddy!
I met you about a week and a 1/2 ago. I ended up catching two reds that day first time.
@@MindfulMusic Cool to meet you! That was a cold morning. Great effort and hope you enjoyed! Excellent choice on the kayak from Old Town! Hope you keep enjoying. I will post that day’s video soon, but lots of footage. I luckily found a couple holes full of them and caught a bunch. So fun! Cheers!
As always, awesome video!
@@daviddoucet2220 thanks a lot!! Been some fun days lately. A day of over 50 reds will be published soon. Hope you’re catching. Cheers!
You wore the flounders out.....
@@todd1808 Don’t often find that many. Have hit them at that exact spot a couple times now. Big ones. And then the reds take over! Not a bad combo!! Cheers!
Joie de vivre !!
@@todd1808 Merci Beaucoup! Some fun days indeed!!
Great video! You caught a bunch of ‘em. That head mount view looks cool. I can never get used to that extra weight on my head. It does make for some cool shots though!
Thanks! Such a fun day. I agree. Head mount cool but definitely bobbles the head up a bit. And I use it without the battery pack so the GoPro dies very quickly. But do hope to show more from that view. And a drone soon. Good luck at your end!
That's what I'm talking about! Love the addition of the head mount. Awesome catches!
Thanks a lot! A very fun day. More head mount view to come. Good luck to you. Cheers!
Great video buddy
Thank you!! That was a fun day and fun video to make. Could have been over an hour long. So many fish. Hope you’re well! Cheers.
Wow! You had an Epic day of catching! The weather was perfect that day for sight fishing. You were right. We were very close to each other out there. Amazing trip buddy! We will cross paths at some point.
@@datlouisianalife Thanks a lot! Can’t wait for more days like that. Will see y’all out there for sure! Good luck and hope y’all keep enjoying! And more videos from that overall trip coming up.
Love that head mount view PUA, really good angle. I would wonder how your roping forehands with the old Prince Mono would look on the head mount!!! Lolz
Haha. Might not be too late to try that tennis option. But much rather the fishing!! So fun.
Have a day!!
Haha! Indeed. It was a special day. Perfect conditions. Hope to do that again soon and often. Next time more head mount view and maybe a drone! Appreciate the comment and watching! Cheers.
Great day of catching🎣thanks for taking us along!👍
Thanks a lot! It was a fun day and even more fun to share. Cheers!
Epic day man! That super shallow red was cool!
Thanks a lot! That was a special day. Hope to do again soon. Keep up the good stuff at your end. Cheers.
06:05 - Oh yeah!!
A very fun hook set! Man I got my fill that day. Such good conditions. Cheers and thanks for always watching!
Interesting that Texas has different rules and regulations for size etc. Maybe the PUA can get an NCAA Waiver haha!! Nice new spot indeed
Haha! I pray that the NCAA never gets involved in the fishing world. Bad enough with tennis!! Texas much stingier on the sizes and keepers. Not a bad thing. Let’s the fish grow and population stays strong. Need about 3 rulers marked out on that kayak!! Cheers!
Fort Proctor has certainly seen better days PUA~~ be careful in that extremely narrow canal it hardly had room for paddling. Great video and a cool place it seems Shell Beach
Gotta visit Shell Beach and Fort Proctor at least once a year. Such a throwback area and cool spots and great fishing. The exploring never stops. Need a Nola tourney for Theo and get y’all down there for a day off! Cheers!
“Feels like a Flounder” and “Dropped it on his Head” are high on the list of all-time PUA comments. This new Texas area was a big success and thanks for the great video @ThePentUpAngler
Thanks Nuts! What an awesome new place to fish. Can’t get there often enough. Acquiring some feel for each species of fish and what’s on the end of the line. Subtle stuff. That red right by the boat was a once in a long while catch!! Cheers!
Wow that Deadly Dudley sure packs a punch PUA!! Happy Thanksgiving to the @PentUpAngler the best follow on UA-cam~~ Thank you Buddy!!
Happy Thanksgiving Nuts! Hope you and Theo dominating. So much footage to share. Deadly Dudley an old school doozy of a lure. Good little wobble to it that the fish can’t resist!
Good stuff! That moving water had them fired up. It’s a chore to keep position but I find that the bite is usually better with some wind. Once the wind gets gusty like a the end of your video it gets super hard to fish. Great job on catching a few despite the conditions!
@@Eightmile_Drifter Thanks a lot. Some days more patience for the wind than others! It was supposed to be light that day. Haha. Always fun! Keep catching!! Cheers.
Hardest part of fishing the marsh is the wind in my opinion. I usually add 5-10mph to the forecast. Still looking forward to having a day with minimal wind. Great video as usual!
No doubt about it. Been an adventure trying to avoid the wind and find good spots. Hopefully some nice calm days ahead. Thanks for the comment. Continued good luck at your end! Cheers!
Mark thanks for the Redfish! Cooked them on the half shell like you suggested! I won’t ever filet another one , they were incredible !
Leo, it was a pleasure. Glad y’all wanted them and did such a good job with the cooking. Both of those seasoning recipes looked great! Great meeting you and family. Happy Thanksgiving and hope y’all continue to enjoy Swampman’s! Cheers.
Watching your video gave me confidence in my new ultra light ugly stik purchase before I fished it. Now I've caught good fish on it and it's so much fun. Love your videos. I'm in Jacksonville but the style is similar. We both wear Calcutta shades too lol. Tight lines Bud
Awesome message. Thanks. Glad to hear that. The E-lite spinning rods are highly underrated. Catch monsters with them! Keep catching at your end! More from me again soon… having an epic trip with site fishing reds as we speak! Thanks for watching! Cheers!
You kayak people kill me. Y’all fish close and do really good at time. I burn 75.00 in gas running all over the place and sometimes don’t hardly catch a fish. Great video. Enjoyed it. Keep them coming.
Haha! Love the comment. Man I love the kayak. Some days the legs are better than others but no $$$ spent on gas. Went a new 5 mile loop today - probably 10 miles total including all the fishing - and caught pretty much the entire way. Over 30 and at least 15 bloopers on top of that!! All fun. I will have a bloopers only video from today!! Thanks for the comment and for watching. Cheers.
@@ThePentUpAnglerremarkable to cover that much ground in the kayak in one day and the water seemed fairly choppy at times
👌👌
Right by the boat! It's awesome to see when they attack the lures! Don't see that much
Thanks! That was a unique one. Been site fishing this past week and had a few more just about as close to the boat! So fun. Thanks for the comment and for watching! Cheers.
Ran into you yesterday in dulac. Glad I could find the page!
Awesome!! Good to meet you and hope to see y’all in Dulac again. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
The weather man is the only person that can be wrong every day and still keep a job. Good seeing you at Swampman Saturday! Keep making these great videos!
@jacobpellegrin7265 You said it!! Man they for sure don’t get the winds right very often. Always makes for exciting adventures out on the water. Need more calm days for that site fishing. Just posted a doozy of a video from the Saturday I saw y’all! Thanks for watching. Good luck ahead! Cheers.
Great day out there trying out different lures and catching a nice mix of fish, glad you were able to make it out before the storms rolled in!
Thanks a lot. Always something new and fun to try. Keep it up at your end. Great stuff! Cheers.

Still a good day fishing
@@johnkieffer4525 Yep. Thanks. Always fun out there especially Reggio. Cheers and more good days ahead!
👍👍
Awesome job Mark! What brand of spinner and paddle tail do you have set up?
@@lrosas411 Thanks a lot! Was a fun day. I use the Z-Man Bullzeye Spinner 3/16 oz gold. Lightest they make and easy casting and retrieving all day. Slightest vibration which I like. As soon as you feel that vibration stop - you have a fish! In order from Bass Pro. I use Matrix Shads with the spinner. Swims well. And small enough. Sometimes I will use a Down South jig as well. Just recently tried a bass spinner bait skirt on the Z-Man with a smaller Sparkle Beetle. This might become a regular. Even easier to cast and retrieve. Lots of options ! Good luck!
Sweet 3 inches of line!! awesome footage!
@@ColoradoCajunFishing Amen man! That was a fun one. Keep enjoying!!!
👏👏👏
How did you not scare the fish way???
@@DanScipode That was very fortunate. Luckily I was being quite quiet and the kayak is silent as well… and I didn’t make any sudden movements. So cool to be able to just drop the rod tip down and not even open the bail. I didn’t want the click of the bail to spook it either. Just wish the screen was perfectly clear. But good enough. Always something with those reds. So fun! Thanks for the comment! Cheers!
Good sized gator!
@@Eightmile_Drifter Pretty big and definitely hidden around a corner. Cool to see! Cheers!
Hey Mark… it was great meeting you down at Sabine Pass the other day. Love your channel and your spirit. Thanks for the redfish. What are the specifics on your Old Town Kayak? I’m interested in purchasing one
Old Town Kayak Review and Setup - Topwater PDL 10’6” ua-cam.com/video/0HRB7kmvLbM/v-deo.html It was nice meeting you as well! Thanks for the message and great comment. Old Town Topwater PDL 10’6” kayak. Now they are called Sportsman instead of Topwater. They also make a 12’ version - heavier but also a little faster moving. Another great option is the Salty Kayak from Old Town. Mine only weighs about 90 pounds and is very stable. The Old Town Kayak website has all the specifications for all of their kayaks. I strongly recommend Old Town! Best value for money for sure. Mine is 6 years old and has given me zero trouble. Hope you get one! Look forward for hearing more. Good luck.
@@ThePentUpAnglera great setup indeed
Thassa big boy!💪🏾
Yep and hidden pretty well around that initial corner. Fun stuff! Cheers.
I always wanted to try this area, that fort is some cool history for sure! That spinner bait is awesome, I would love to try it more, I have a few but they seem on the heavy side for shallow water, I wanna pick up some with a lighter jighead. Nice catches and great video!
@@LaYakFishing yep you’re exactly right. Most spinners are way too heavy. I use a 1/8 oz. and matrix shads which don’t add much weight. Makes a huge difference not only for depth, but for resistance and lots of casting for long fishing days. I also just ordered some regular old school bass spinnerbaits with just the skirt. Very light. I’m going to be trying those for these redfish on a trip this week. Hope to have a good report. Will be fun casting for sure. Keep it up! More good stuff soon. Thanks.
@@ThePentUpAnglerim gonna look for the 1/8oz thanks!
I was looking at this area just a week or so ago on google maps. Looks to be just a little over 2 hours from Alabama. Is the cell phone reception ok in that area? I could see it being easy to get lost in that system. Good job on those catches. Always fun to get multiple species out of one hole. Great video as always!
@ Thanks! Yes pretty close to you actually. I say worth the drive. Campo’s Marina. Short paddle to the marsh I was fishing and easy to map. And yes, good cell service. Another spot you might stop on the way is Rigolets - they have a great marina and some good marsh bayous right near the launch and also can go out into Lake Pontchartrain real close also. Rigolets Bait and Marina. I look forward to following up! Good luck.
Thx for your video help. I'm facing this problem right now. Thanks for your help
